They do a lot of this as a setup. Someone who you thought was a "team player" will say something about the other and it gets blown way out of proportion on purpose. If they give the impression of infighting, the press will stick on it for days and give them space to do what the real work is. I look at this and laugh. They are playing the press like a moonshine jug like they always have.
