Yeah, this. If GWB ever averted a WW3 starter, it was because it wasn't the appropriate time for them to start WW3. Their whole ethos is to control all the good things, and all the bad things.

Also, Mueller is yet to have a family acquaintance's mentally ill kid, or anyone, shoot Trump.

I'm hesitant to label Jack Matlock as /ourguy/.

He voted for Hillary, and said this:

"we would have had better prospects for convincing a President Hillary Clinton to improve relations with Russia (despite what she had said earlier) than we have now to enable President Trump to do so. The idea that many Russians had that Trump would be a better candidate not only misunderstood the defects in Trump‘s character but also showed a profound misunderstanding of the American political process."

I'm thinking that the Jack Matlock clue is more to do with something he's done, than his attributes or general disposition. Just working from memory here, but Gorbachev, from where we are sitting (outside Russia), seems like a great guy and a peacemaker, but Putin and many Russian nationalists see him as a traitor.

I can understand that because we seem to have given them the impression that after the fall of the USSR, we sought to subjugate that nation and let the banksters and Western European corporate interests quietly pillage them. Jack Matlock, given his responsibilities over a long period of time, must share some responsibility for that.

It's obvious from the way he talks in that interfax interview and the great pile of writings he's made on the subject that he regards his own abilities and understanding rather highly, but that may not match up with the outcomes he achieved long term.
