In terms of mathematics, "[" would mean to include the beginning term in the interval. The ")" would mean not to include the value.

In other words, if this were [0,1) - It would mean 0 is included in the interval, but the end of the interval would be infinitesimally close to 1 without including it.

I'm not a mathsfag, so I probably butchered the termininology.
