(Gotta call you on this one, our dear Q. If patriots were in "full control", all would be right as rain in America. But it's most certainly not. Corruption still undoubtedly exists, at nearly all levels… That being said, rewards are almost always monetary in nature, hence "follow the money" in a previous post. Senate seats/appointments are being essentially auctioned off, or appointed, as in the case of the vacant seat left by HRC to Gillibrand (NY) and the many times this has taken place in Illinois) Regardless, they are not above the law, nor scrutiny.
