Ok you said airliner, like 737, 777 etc, no they don't boom. The booms they heard were jets breaking the sound barrier, if they were flight testing they would be going the sound barrier, boom, slow down, re-break the sound barrier repeat. They don't go sonic over the populated area im in, they just do touch and gos and dirty slow flight which is very loud.
