So you want to go out and protest. Because you want to do 'something' and you want to get laid. Hell, the kids right now are even crazier about blackballing any wrongthink. Here's where you get compromised. You want advancement, your degree isn't worth shit, you are in debt, you have all these feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, you get arrested at a protest.
Then one day you're approached with "help," usually a paid organizer position at a non-profit. Ground floor. How far will you take it?

Pedro Cabán was the Vice Provost for Diversity and Educational Equity at the State University of New York (2007-2011) and is professor of Latin American, Caribbean and U.S. Latino Studies at the University at Albany.
