Actually, we had a pretty functional thing going with asking bakers to show bins before baking:
-
better coverage (1 to 3 bakers took responsibility for certain shifts, along with relief bakers)
-
greater transparency (anons saw who baked)
-
few to none shill bakes
The main shortcomings:
1. New bakers had no bin.
Solution: ask for practice bins from /comms/
Argued (probably by shills) that new bakers should not have to go off /qresearch/ to bake.
Stupid argument - but good if you want to villify /comms/ and keep baking in the hands of comp'd bakers. Laid the groundwork for takeover by OSS plus anime bakers - all muh joos bakers.
2. Occasional bakers and returning bakers had no bin.
Solution: Explain to them why we use the bin system, so they understand its advantages. Provide alternative means of verification, like a post of (yous) bakes from the past w/ notables if possible.
Another possibility: Ask them to use qbin or a named pastebin acct when baking, so anons can see their work product for current bake. Bakers can remain anonymous using qbin but their bakes will be linked to their IP hash. They can remain completely anon that way.

Shills could exploit the anon bias toward complete anonymity regardless of the situation or practical needs of the board by saying
"anybody can bake"
"baking is easy"
"namefag bakers trying to take over the board."
Which is exactly what they did.
Soon after, OSS began to arouse suspicions with broadside attacks on bakers, starting with the one who exposed his dough fuckery. Gradually expanded the attack to the entire kitchen - which he then labeled "/comms/ bakers. Did so with the help of FJ, who pinned his secret request for a bakers thread in /qr/ without EVER asking either anons or bakers for input.
OSS argument: "Everything should happen only on /qresearch/. Boards like /comms/ are bad."
Here he successfully exploited anons' bad experience with WR fags (who really did want to make their qanonresearch endchan thread the center of meme ops - per BO gerbil).
Before OSS, most anons trusted the bakers. OSS managed to create enough confusion to make anons at least wonder - and to think there was some kind of "bakers war" going on instead of ONE PERSON seeking to disrupt the kitchen (and therefore destroy the board).
SO:
i would recommend using a bin system but finding better ways to ensure fairness and perceived fairness (by newfag bakers and returning bakers).
may be easier now, coz the situation now is universally hated by patriot anons. The bin system is actually pretty open - nobody was exploiting it either. but explaining why we use it (and why experienced bakers reject the idea that a newfag should just waltz into the kitch and demand to bake) is important.

Well, coverage is never 100%. but it was better after bins than anytime in the past. Specifically:

wnb was here in the am (often with others), doc was baking during the day (often with relief some several spot bakers), nb was baking after him until about midnight ET.

From midnight to about 6 am, there were sometimes gaps, but not too bad, tbh. And note-takers were usually on duty - an ebaker would usually show up too. Very few chaotic or dup bakes.

There were others baking too and doing spot bakes. But these "mainstay" bakers were sually here. Weekends, more "spot' bakers would jump in, there were more gaps but still pretty good, all things considered.
Again: few shill bakes due to need for bins. most of the 'problem' bakes were due to new bakers making beginner mistakes.
Important to stress that all bakers were open to other people baking during their 'shifts'
(Bakers like yourself - who did a lot of baking during gy and mornings - tyvm)
