TheWhite House plans to mobilize 1,000 more service members to help support medical centers around the country early next year as part of a broader plan to battle the recent surge of coronavirus cases in America.
The moves, to be formally unveiled by President Joe Biden in a speech this afternoon, are in response to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus.
White House officials have said in recent days they are planning a series of actions designed to increase vaccinations and slow the advance of the virus, but won’t seek any new lockdown or restriction measures. However, numerous local communities have already begun reinstating limits on school attendance, mass gatherings and other group events.
White House officials ahead of Tuesday’s announcement said that the additional troops will deploy to “COVID-burdened hospitals” and will include “military doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other medical personnel.”
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is coordinating the moves with other federal agencies to place personnel in areas of greatest need.
Biden will also announce plans to deploy federal medical personnel, expected to include some Department of Veterans Affairs staff, to additional locations.
Six emergency response teams with more than 100 clinical personnel are already headed to Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Arizona, New Hampshire and Vermont— some of the states hardest hit by the new variant.
Another 300 federal medical personnel have been deployed to other locations in recent weeks.

PORTLAND, Ore. — In the hours after President Biden’s inauguration this year, protesters marched once again through the streets of Portland, Ore., sending a message that putting a Democrat in the White House would not resolve their problems with a system of policing and corporate wealth that they saw as fundamentally unfair.
“No cops, no prisons, total abolition,” they chanted. Some of the activists, dressed in the trademark uniform of solid black clothing and masks that often signals a readiness to make trouble without being readily identifiable, smashed windows at the local Democratic Party headquarters.
The event — like others that had consumed the city since the murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis in 2020 — included a variety of anarchists, antifascists, communists and racial justice activists. But there were others mingling in the crowd that day: plainclothes agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The F.B.I. set up extensive surveillance operations inside Portland’s protest movement, according to documents obtained by The New York Times and current and former federal officials, with agents standing shoulder to shoulder with activists, tailing vandalism suspects to guide the local police toward arrests and furtively videotaping inside one of the country’s most active domestic protest movements.
The breadth of F.B.I. involvement in Portland and other cities where federal teams were deployed at street protests became a point of concern for some within the bureau and the Justice Department who worried that it could undermine the First Amendment right to protest against the government, according to two officials familiar with the discussions.

KENOSHA, WI- We’ve reported a couple of times about the FBI’s somewhat “confusing” involvement in two high-profile incidents—the alleged “kidnapping” plot of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the most bogus “insurrection” in world history, the Jan. 6 Capitol siege.
Now, we’re finding out the country’s “pre-eminent” law enforcement agency was likewise present in Kenosha, WI., on the night Kyle Rittenhouse is accused of killing two men and shooting another.
For anyone who has watched the onset of Rittenhouse’s trial this week, we have been treated to what can only be referred to, as RedState notes as a “dumpster fire.” In fact, so bad is the prosecution that they have basically laid out the case for the defense.
To make matters worse for the prosecution, even the judge’s statements have largely seemed to, intentionally or not, favor the defense. For example, the judge ruled the prosecution couldn’t refer to the two men Rittenhouse shot in self-defense as “victims,” and rightly so. Clearly by referring to them as “victims,” that assumes Rittenhouse is guilty of “something.”
During the trial this past week, the prosecution introduced video footage of the scene of the shooting, showing the mayhem of the riot in Kenosha from various angles.
An FBI drone video was introduced which showed an aerial view of the shooting. Wait, the FBI had a drone flying over the riot in Kenosha?
For what purpose? Fourth Amendment anyone? As RedState asks, why did the FBI deploy a drone over the scene in Kenosha? Why for example didn’t the FBI deploy drones over, say Seattle or Portland or any other city which was the scene of daily riots in the post-George Floyd world?
