A Jeep Patriot had driven through a group of protesters supporting the Freedom Convoy at the legislative grounds, striking four adult males.
The driver fled the scene, running several red lights. With assistance from the RCMP, officers stopped the vehicle less than an hour later, arresting the lone driver after a short struggle.
The driver is a 42-year-old male from the town of Headingley whose name has not yet been released.
Thankfully, there were no deaths or major injuries as a result of the ramming.
Three of the victims sustained minor injuries that did not need medical attention, though one was reportedly treated at the scene by ambulance personnel. The fourth was treated in hospital and has since been released.
The 42-year-old driver was detained in custody and faces the following charges:
Assault with a weapon (x4)
Dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm (x2)
Dangerous operation of a vehicle
Failure to stop after accident (x2)
Failure to stop at scene of accident (2)

The day after Quebec Liberal MP Joel Lightbound broke rank with his own government over its handling of COVID-19, Liberal MP Yves Robillard is also raising questions about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s response to the pandemic.
“He [Lightbound] said exactly what a lot of us think,” said Robillard in an interview with the Hill Times on Wednesday. “I agree with everything that Lightbound said.”
Robillard said that he spoke with Lightbound and expressed his support for him. He added that they would work together on this issue going forward.
COVID-19 restrictions, said Robillard, have affected his own mental health as well as that of many Canadians. He said that he is even planning on seeing a doctor.
Robillard said he is not worried about being kicked out of the Liberal caucus, claiming there are more Liberal MPs “who’ve just had enough” and who “are not going to pass the rest of our mandate like that.

The House of Commons has narrowly voted to put an end to the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (PHAC) surveillance program that spied on 33 million mobile devices.
173 MPs voted to end the program while 155 MPs wanted it to continue.
“There was no consent given by users to allow the telecom companies to collect this data,” said Conservative MP John Brassard. “(Canadians) are becoming increasingly concerned about the expansive overreach by the government.”
The vote placed the program under suspension pending the outcomes of Commons ethics committee hearings.

Ottawa police (OPS) have reportedly raised concerns with child protective services about the safety of the children living with their parents who are part of the Freedom Convoy truck protest, stating that the presence of the children “complicates” efforts to end the demonstration, which has been going on for over a week.
According to estimates produced by the police in a briefing on Tuesday, more than 100 of the trucks participating in the protest in downtown Ottawa have children living in them.
“Almost 25 percent of the 418 trucks have children living in them — children who could be at risk during a police operation,” OPS Deputy Chief Steve Bell said, noting that there are a “multitude of concerns” about their health, including the presence of carbon monoxide, diesel fumes, cold, noise, and a lack of access to sanitation facilities.
