However short lived, Canada once had our own revolution, known as the Rebellions of 1837, and we had a Republic declared. It was a last stand, symbolic gesture as they faced imminent defeat.

 

This was the flag of that Republic that fell on Navy Island.

 

I pray that someday we can escape the grasp of the Monarchy, and re-establish our Republic, and make it worthy of their sacrifices. Though they lost, they are the ones who came closest to achieving true liberty for the people of Canada.

 

As a person of French Canadian blood, my family lived in France, and then Quebec from 1600's until today, all under a Monarch. My bloodline has never been free, but I pray that it will be someday.
