Heavier parts have more mass and more inertia and more friction surfaces. Large caliber semis tend to require more break-in than their lighter counterparts, unless its a high-end model with lots of factory fitting or something with a really robust piston drive system. My FAL and my FNAR didn't need a break-in period, but my SuperSASS definitely did.
