Police say new evidence ‘changes the state of affairs,’ after initially denying unauthorized use of Pegasus spyware; Justice Ministry taps committee to probe bombshell claims

Israel’s police force admitted on Tuesday that it had found evidence that officers had conducted electronic surveillance of Israeli citizens without receiving proper judicial oversight, reversing an earlier denial of such claims.

After a bombshell report in mid January claiming that law enforcement regularly utilized the NSO Group’s Pegasus hacking spyware against Israeli civilians without court approval, police denied that any such activities were carried out without proper oversight.

But in a statement Tuesday, police noted that during a secondary investigation, “additional findings were discovered that change the state of affairs in certain aspects.”

The police said that the head of its investigations and intelligence division would instruct all members of the force to cooperate with an inquiry into the alleged unauthorized use of the hacking technology.

All officers will be mandated “to respond to its questions, hand in any document or information demanded, allow access to information systems and provide technical knowledge on the measures at the disposal of police.”

Following the initial report last month, outgoing Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit ordered police to take immediate action to halt any future such activities and ordered an investigation, and the state comptroller also announced a probe of the situation.

The Justice Ministry said Tuesday that one of Mandelblit’s last actions in office before retiring on Monday was to appoint the members of a committee of inquiry into the issue.

The committee will be headed by Deputy Attorney General Amit Marari, and will include former MOS head of technology Tzafrir Katz and former head of investigations at the Shin Bet Eyal Dagan. The committee is expected to publish its findings by July 1.

Echoing the police statement, a Justice Ministry official told the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee on Tuesday that further investigation into the issue has raised concerns.

Gabriela Fisman, head of the ministry’s governmental powers oversight division, told the committee that “additional findings” by the government “changed the picture,” and therefore the attorney general ordered immediate steps to prevent future violations.

Labor MK Gilad Kariv, who heads the committee, said that it was “unreasonable” to wait six months for the full investigation. He called for “interim conclusions” to be made public and debated.

Mandelblit informed Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai of the investigation into police last month, saying that “it is difficult to overstate the severity of the alleged harm to basic rights” if the report is true. But he also said at the time that while the claims “paint a highly concerning picture, [the report] does not include sufficiently concrete information, which makes it difficult to identify the incidents in question.”

The probe into police use of Pegasus is the latest scandal to rock NSO Group, an Israel-based cybertechnology company beleaguered by accusations around the world stemming from sales of the phone hacking technology to regimes accused of using it against activists, journalists, political opponents and others.

Pegasus is considered one of the most powerful cyber-surveillance tools available on the market, giving operators the ability to effectively take full control of a target’s phone, download all data from the device, or activate its camera or microphone without the user knowing.

In an interview aired over the weekend, NSO Group CEO Asaf Shalev claimed that it was “built-in” to Pegasus that it cannot be used on Israeli cellphone numbers.

Biden Boomerang: Newly released State memos undercut Democrats' Ukraine impeachment story

State Department officials told Ukraine prosecutor they were "impressed" with his work shortly before Biden forced his firing.

Just months before Joe Biden forced his firing, Ukraine's chief prosecutor was told by U.S. State Department officials that they were "impressed" with his anti-corruption plan and fully supportive of his work, according to newly released memos that cast doubt on a key Democrat impeachment narrative.

During former President Donald Trump's first impeachment trial two years ago, House Democrats alleged that Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin was fired in March 2016 because State officials were widely displeased with his anti-corruption efforts and not because Shokin's office was investigating the Ukrainian gas firm that had given then-Vice President Biden's son Hunter a lucrative job.

But the memos obtained by Just the News and the Southeastern Legal Foundation under a Freedom of Information Act request show senior State Department officials — including then-Secretary of State John Kerry — were sending the opposite message to Shokin the summer before his firing.

"We have been impressed with the ambitious reform and anti-corruption agenda of your government," then-Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland personally wrote Shokin in an official letter dated June 9, 2015 that was delivered to the prosecutor two days later by then-U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt.

Nuland, now President Biden's undersecretary of state, wrote that "Secretary Kerry asked me to reply on his behalf" to let Shokin know he enjoyed the full support of the United States as he set out to fight endemic corruption in the former Soviet republic.

"The ongoing reform of your office, law enforcement, and the judiciary will enable you to investigate and prosecute corruption and other crimes in an effective, fair, and transparent manner," Nuland added. "The United States fully supports your government's efforts to fight corruption and other crimes in an effective, fair and transparent manner."

The letter stands out, according to Republican congressional investigators and Trump's former impeachment defense lawyers, because it was sent just six months before Joe Biden began his pressure campaign to oust Shokin in December 2015 and appears to conflict with testimony given to Congress.

They also told Just the News they have no record the memo was produced to Trump's impeachment defense team or to a Senate investigation that concluded the Bidens' business dealings in Ukraine created a conflict of interest that undercut U.S. anti-corruption efforts.

"We did not receive this. We should have received it. President Trump's defense attorneys also should have received it," Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who led a detailed investigation in 2020 into Hunter and Joe Biden's business affairs, told the Just the News television show on Real America's Voice on Monday night.

FBI Raid Uncovers Ilhan Omar-Linked Scam Stealing MILLIONS From Starving Children

Far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar was secretly funneled large amounts of cash that was intended for starving children, the FBI has confirmed.

Feeding Our Future received a whopping $197.9 million in 2021 to provide food to starving Minnesota children impacted by COVID-19 restrictions. However, the FBI recently raided the charity’s headquarters and found that none of this money was actually spent feeding kids.

Instead, the bureau discovered the nonprofit conspired with local businesses to falsify records and funnel the money into private accounts, including Ilham Omar’s bank account.

The Pioneer Press found that the businesses involved in this scam were all led by “members of the East African diaspora.”

Alphanews.org reports: One of these establishments is Safari Restaurant, a Somali eatery located in Minneapolis’s Powderhorn Park neighborhood. Safari has been a focal point of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s engagement with her constituents for years. She’s appeared there numerous times and even hosted her 2018 victory party at the restaurant, the owners of which are now accused of stealing millions.

Specifically, Safari was reimbursed for $15 million it allegedly spent serving meals to hungry children between May and November 2020. The restaurant claims it fed 5,000 children a day, more than the St. Paul public school system.

The FBI doubts this narrative and highlights in a search warrant that Safari-affiliated shell companies purchased items like an $87,000 pickup truck, a million-dollar home in Plymouth and a $2.8 million mansion in Minneapolis after the alleged fraud took place.

The restaurant has also donated thousands to Omar’s campaign since the fraud reportedly transpired.

Public records list Safari among Omar’s donors

Omar is not the only progressive politician who may have received stolen money as donations. The Sahan Journal reports that at least six men named by the FBI as being involved in the scandal donated to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. Two of these are owners of Safari.

A third Frey donor, Abdikadir Mohamud, runs Stigma-Free — a group that was originally incorporated and run by Minneapolis City Council Member Jamal Osman. Stigma-Free also worked with Safari in perpetrating fraud, the FBI claims.

Abdikadir Mohamud was appointed by the mayor to sit on a public safety working group late last year.

Meanwhile, Aimee Bock, the leader of Feeding Our Future, maintains that she is innocent. “I believe that this is an attack on a community,” she said, apparently accusing the FBI of being racist against Somalis. Bock’s home was raided earlier this month by law enforcement officers.

Canada Police: ‘All Options on the Table’ to End Peaceful Trucker Protests

Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly told reporters on Monday that “all options are on the table,” including “enforcement,” to end an ongoing protest led by truckers in the Canadian capital against the country’s onerous anti-coronavirus mandates that Sloly himself admitted had led to no injuries or violence.

“It could have led to significant and severe injuries, and it could have led to the loss of life. None of that has occurred over the last four days,” Sloly said, according to Canada’s CTV, while asserting that police would act by any means necessary to end the event.

Sloly’s remarks follow a bizarre speech by far-left Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau – from an undisclosed location in which he is allegedly recovering from a Chinese coronavirus infection – in which he condemned the protesters as wearing “tinfoil hats,” compared them unfavorably to violent “Black Lives Matter” protests, and equated receiving coronavirus vaccine products to “what being Canadian is.”

Trudeau has adamantly refused to address the protesters’ concerns and dismissed them as a “small fringe minority” that is representative of neither truckers nor Canadians generally.

The “Freedom Convoy” of thousands in Ottawa is demanding an end to all business, travel, education, and movement restrictions in the country. A GoFundMe page for the campaign, which has attracted upwards of 9 million Canadian dollars in donations, demands Trudeau’s government “cease all mandates against its people.”

“Small businesses are being destroyed, homes are being destroyed, and people are being mistreated and denied fundamental necessities to survive. It’s our duty as Canadians to put an end to this mandates,” the page reads. “It is imperative that this happens because if we don’t, our country will no longer be the country we have come to love. We are doing this for our future Generations and to regain our lives back.”

Sloly, the Ottawa police chief, told reporters that “all options are on the table, from negotiation through to enforcement,” to end the event. He did not specify if lifting the mandates was among those options.

Similarly, in the same briefing, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson asserted that he and his local government were “doing everything possible to bring this to an end peacefully.” Unlike Sloly, he explicitly rejected using force to dislodge the peaceful assembly.

“I get a lot of emails and tweets, why don’t you just send in the tow trucks, send in the parking control people? We’re not interested in inflaming the situation,” Watson asserted. “The last thing we need is to have some behavior that creates a mini-riot. We don’t want that to happen. We don’t want to see bloodshed.”

Watson urged the protesters to “give back our city to its residents.”

“It should have ended a long time ago. They’ve made their point. They had their rally,” Watson reportedly complained. “They embarrassed themselves with some of the actions of some of the people in the crowd, but it’s now time for them to go home and allow our community to regroup and rebuild, particularly given the fact that we’re still in the midst of a pandemic.”

Images from the protests largely align with Sloly’s assessment that the ongoing event has been peaceful. Reporters have caught protesters cleaning up public spaces they have used. Much of the activity in the heart of the city appears to be dancing and playing music, creating a celebratory atmosphere at odds with the mood created in the past two years in the country by the Trudeau administration’s pandemic policies.

Rep. Cawthorn Files Lawsuit Against North Carolina Board of Elections Over Unconstitutional Attempt to Disqualify Him from Reelection

Rep. Madison Cawthorn has filed a federal lawsuit against members of the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) over their unconstitutional attempt to disqualify him for reelection.

A group of challengers recently filed a complaint with the NCSBE alleging that Rep. Cawthorn “does not meet the federal constitutional requirements for a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives and is therefore ineligible to be a candidate for such office.”

The group claimed that the congressman engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” against the United States on January 6th and therefore was disqualified to be a Member of Congress under the US Constitution.

According to a statement provided to The Gateway Pundit, Rep. Cawthorn vigorously denies that he “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the United States, and his suit seeks to enjoin the NCSBE from “employing unconstitutional provisions of North Carolina election law to remove him from the ballot as a Candidate.’

“Under North Carolina law, a Challenger can challenge someone’s qualifications to run for office based only on reasonable suspicion or belief that the facts stated disqualify the Candidate from running for office and then the Candidate bears the burden of proof to show that he is qualified to run for office. This burden-shifting turns our legal system on its head, requiring someone prove his ‘innocence’ when challenged,” his office said in the statement.

Therefore, Rep. Cawthorn is arguing that the Challenge Statute violates his First Amendment rights by triggering a government investigation based solely upon a Challenger’s “reasonable suspicion;” violates his Due Process rights under the Fourteenth Amendment by shifting the burden of proof onto him to prove he didn’t engage in an “insurrection or rebellion;” is unconstitutional because it overrides the U.S. House of Representative’s exclusive power to determine the qualifications for its Members; and violates federal law because the “disqualification clause,” Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment no longer applies to current Congressional Members, because of the Amnesty Act of 1872.

“Running for office is not only a great privilege, it is a right protected under the Constitution,” said Rep. Cawthorn in a statement provided to TGP. “I love this country and have never engaged in, or would ever engage in, an insurrection against the United States. Regardless of this fact, the Disqualification clause and North Carolina’s Challenge Statute is being used as a weapon by liberal Democrats to attempt to defeat our democracy by having state bureaucrats, rather than the People, choose who will represent North Carolina in Congress. I’m defending not only my rights, but the right of the People to democratically elect their representatives.”

A baffling Trump endorsement in Tennessee has caused quite a stir in MAGA country. If you haven’t been paying close attention to political minutiae lately, Politico has the story:

Former President Donald Trump is facing serious backlash from die-hard loyalists over his decision to intervene in a Tennessee House race, with his supporters accusing him of spurning a staunch Republican ally who’s running.

Trump on Tuesday evening endorsed Morgan Ortagus, who served as a State Department spokesperson during his administration and is pondering a run for a Middle Tennessee-based congressional district. The announcement has caused a firestorm, with far-right, high-profile backers ranging from North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn to conservative activist Candace Owens taking to social media to voice their support for Robby Starbuck, a rival candidate who’s been a mainstay of the pro-Trump movement. Is this all just a tempest in a teapot? Our research indicates this Trump endorsement is even worse than you might have thought at first glance. Megan Ortagus might be President Trump’s former State Department spokesperson, but she holds GOP establishment neocon views that are diametrically opposed to the America First, MAGA-movement.

Mere hours after Trump’s endorsement, The National Pulse publicized statements Ortagus had made vowing to “faithfully [serve] the incoming Biden Administration,” and trashing Trump back during the 2016 race. It turns out that, in 2016, she dutifully repeated all of the Never Trump talking points of the GOP establishment:

“You have somebody who makes fun of people with mental and physical disabilities. That’s disgusting; there’s no other way around it,” remarked Ortagus in January 2016 during an interview with Fox News.

Ortagus, while working for a super PAC associated with Trump’s primary opponent former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, said she “fundamentally disagree[d]” with Trump’s approach to foreign policy.

“In his gut, he does not think that Americans should be, quote unquote, the policemen of the world,” she said during a 2016 panel discussion dissecting Trump’s foreign policy speech.

“I don’t see it that way. I think that America is the glue that holds the world together. … So there were points that I agreed with him today, but overall, I fundamentally disagree with his isolationist approach to foreign policy,” she added.

Ortagus and her second husband were married by the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, in 2000. [National Pulse]

Getting married by Ruth Bader Ginsburg might simply reflect a profound lack of taste in Ortagus’ personal life that can be overlooked, but championing America as the “policemen of the world,” casting President Trump’s policies as “isolationist,” and stating that she “fundamentally disagrees” with Trump’s America First, Jacksonian approach to foreign policy are political sins that cannot be forgiven.

Of course, many people criticized Donald Trump in 2016, and later came around on the importance of the political realignment he led. The issue with Ortagus, however, isn’t limited to her criticism of Trump—it’s her clear failure to have learned anything after serving in his administration.

If Ortagus is elected to the House, she will become one of the most extreme warhawks in the Republican Party—a natural ally of figures like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. Her Twitter timeline features a cascading list of demands that America get involved in a dizzying array of foreign entanglements.

Like every warmonger in DC, Ortagus is outraged that Russia successfully annexed Crimea. She demands it be forcibly returned to Ukraine, even though the takeover was basically nonviolent and more than 80 percent of residents support union with Russia.

But why only be angry at America’s rivals and designated enemies? Ortagus is also outraged that Germany isn’t enthusiastic enough about joining the anti-Russia front. Rather than consider that perhaps Russia’s existential threat to the West isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, or that NATO itself might be a tad obsolete, Ortagus bashes Germany as a “bad ally” for not joining America’s corrupt ruling class in its race to escalation and war.

There’s more, though. Ortagus is also a senior advisor for the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, a sub-venture of the Atlantic Council. Abroad, the Atlantic Council (whose donors include the UAE, Raytheon, Boeing, and even Burisma) is a leading agitator for permanent conflict with Russia. Domestically, the Atlantic Council operates a Digital Forensics Lab which has teamed up with Facebook to censor speech online that it labels foreign interference or “misinformation.”

More than any other organization, the Atlantic Council represents the toxic fusion of military adventurism abroad and political suppression at home that defines the “centrist” ruling elite in Washington. The Republican Party and all America-first political movements can only be improved by having fewer of their number.

Megan Ortagus is part and parcel of the GOP establishment neocon machine that subverted America First. It’s even written all over her tweet accepting President Trump’s endorsement, where she equates America First with “American greatness.”

This is a classic tell. The GOP establishment neocons that Trump defeated stealthily infiltrated his administration and twisted America First into their very own vision of “American greatness.” When the DC swamp says “American greatness,” it isn’t what you or I, or your average Joe on the street corner thinks of Making America Great Again (the excellent news site American Greatness notwithstanding!). They want more wars. More American blood and treasure spilled abroad. More money for defense contractors so they can build more McMansions in the surrounding suburbs in DC. More entangling alliances abroad.

To these swamp creatures, American greatness means neoconservatism, endless forever wars abroad, Middle Eastern quagmires, and banging the drums for forever wars in the Ukraine, Iran, and the South China Sea.

This time around, no one is buying it. An endorsement from President Trump ought to be solid gold, a consistent and reliable way to distinguish the strongest America-first candidates from RINOs, fossils, grifters, and phonies.

President Trump has endorsed incumbents in cases where new blood is very welcome. The 45th president endorsed Chuck Grassley even though Grassley is 88 years old and trashed Trump for January 6. Sen. Jerry Moran suggested the only reason he voted against Trump’s second impeachment was because he had already left office. Trump endorsed the senator from Kansas for another term. Trump also endorsed Senator Tim Scott after the South Carolina senator enabled cancel culture and the left’s anti-police push. Tim Scott also loves foreign interventionism nearly as much as Lindsey Graham and Nikki Haley. A few months ago, President Trump endorsed Texas Rep. Michael McCaul for reelection, even though after January 6 McCaul said he voted against impeachment “with a heavy heart” only because the process was accelerated. Fittingly enough, early this month, endorsement in hand, McCaul called for additional investigations into Trump’s conduct leading up to January 6.

Endorsing the right candidates with the right priorities is critical to ensuring that if Trump runs for president and wins in 2024, he’ll have the support of a GOP that enables his policies instead of sabotaging them. Even if Trump doesn’t run, these endorsements are a way to create a party that reflects and carries on his legacy instead of abandoning it.

A Trump endorsement is gold. President Trump must be judicious in awarding it, lest it become fool’s gold instead.

The 4th MOS commander has resigned in under a year, according to the media. The commander has already been replaced. Since Barnea took over as head of MOS from Yossi Cohen, a top MOS member has quit four times in seven months.

According to Israeli media, an anonymous commander of MOS’s special operations unit has quit. Following David Barnea becoming the director of the Israeli spy organization in June 2021, he is said to be the fourth high-profile figure to depart MOS in seven months.

The commander resigned after Barnea reportedly warned him that both he and other officials had become a “burden on the organization,” as per a Channel 13 News report on Sunday.

“Barnea wanted to make major changes to how the department headed by [the unnamed commander] works because of difficulties in operating Israeli agents abroad, and [the commander] did not implement them as requested,” Haaretz reported, adding that the commander’s deputy and “a number of agents also resigned” over the incident.

The commander has already been replaced, according to reports.

Since Barnea took over as head of MOS from Yossi Cohen, a top MOS member has quit four times in seven months.

MOS’s chief of technology, head of operations, and head of anti-terrorism all quit the year before due to a rumored feud with Barnea.

Barnea, who joined MOS in 1996 and rose through the ranks to become head of the Tzomet Division in 2013, MOS deputy head in 2019, and then director of the organization in 2021, has been dubbed a “gadget-loving killing machine” who has apparently sought to return MOS to a code of utter silence, endangering both former and present agents who talk to the mainstream press about operations.

Barnea, who was designated director of the agency by previous Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in June, picked out Iran as the organization’s primary concern, alleging it of “making constant progress toward a weapons of mass destruction program.”

“Our security challenges are very big and at the top of the list is Iran,” he said.
