SEATTLE — Newly released documents are shedding new insight into the chaotic moments when school staff and police tried to force an intruder to leave the campus of Sand Point Elementary School in Seattle.
Two children were assaulted during the ordeal and the documents show potential missteps between an officer and the school principal as they responded to the situation.
Liban Harsam, the man who was arrested, is now charged with felony assault and burglary.
Earlier this month, Harsam jumped a fence at the school where he forced his way inside a portable classroom and grabbed two students, according to investigators.
As officials began calling 911, school Principal Ric Baileykaze raced over to help the teacher in the classroom to try and convince the man to leave.

Records released to KOMO News show that instead of getting out of the patrol vehicle, the officer began questioning the principal, asking for his name and how to spell it.
The principal wrote, "I was frustrated at this time and showed him my badge and something to the effect of, 'Here's my badge, the man is up there, I'm going to him.'"
Baileykaze declined to comment to KOMO News, but the district directed the station to Fred Podesta, assistant superintendent of operations.
“I think school staff were doing the best they could,” he said. “They have to prioritize students. That's their responsibility."
The principal said the officer followed him onto campus asking if the man had committed any crimes.
The principal said the officer told him, “I need to know because if I have to put hands on him it's going to get ugly."
At the time, the principal didn't know two students had been grabbed, having entered the classroom after the teacher had already positioned herself between the intruder and her students.
“Nobody had a complete picture of what was going on so it was hard to fill in the officer on everything that had happened,” Podesta said.
At that point, the intruder walked off and assaulted a delivery driver, according to investigators.
