SEATTLE - Governor Jay Inslee told KOMO on Thursday bold action is needed to reduce crime at homeless encampments.
This, as he made stops in Auburn and Seattle to tour the shelter and housing projects supported by state funding.
He spoke to us in Auburn after visiting a YMCA shelter for young adults. The Governor was shown a facility in operation, partly thanks to state funding.
However, for those not able to get into a shelter, crime at homeless encampments is a growing threat and in Seattle, it is something that city leaders say has eaten up emergency responses and created safety issues.
"We need to take bold action against this to reduce people having to live in squalor and reducing the crime that sometimes is associated with them and we need to take action, rather than just rhetoric, Inslee said as he pointed back to the YMCA as an example of action that is being taken by the state, “to get people out of these places that sometimes are associated with crime and into housing.”

Residents of some states may not get their next unemployment checks on time as a vendor cyberattack has shut down their websites.
The states all do business with Florida-based Geographic Solutions. The company has not posted any information on its social media pages about the cyberattack. A warning page appears when trying to access the company's webpage.
Up to 40 states and Washington, D.C. could be affected, according to a news release from the Louisiana Workforce Commission. No personal data was exposed, according to state officials there. But some state residents may get their unemployment check late as Louisiana's HIRE website is down, they said.
"The HiRE website is used to file unemployment claims, job searches and other functions,'" Louisiana officials said in a news release. "This outage impacts the near 11,000 people currently filing continued claims for unemployment in Louisiana."
Officials with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce said they cannot access data to process unemployment claims.

The federal government plans to suspends or terminate benefits to a military veteran and his family as a result of him being charged in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
The Department of Veterans Affairs informed the veteran, Kenneth Harrelson, and his wife in a June 13 correspondence that such actions are the result of the Justice Department telling the agency that Harrelson has been charged with "indicted and charged with Seditious Conspiracy," the Epoch Times reported Thursday.
The letter also states the veterans’ agency must suspend payment of "gratuitous benefits" pending disposition of the criminal proceedings. "If convicted, gratuitous benefits are forfeited, automatically, from and after the date of the offense."
Gratuitous benefits include the right to burial in a national cemetery, according to the federal government.

I searched all the jails the woman [listed proprietor] might be in and with zero results.
I was basing the search off the owner. It is appearing she may be the 'madam' and an employee was the one arrested. I can not be certain. But there was no bookings at SCORE, King County Jail [downtown Seattle] or Norm Maleng Regional in Kent. I could not even find a close match to the name. I keep looking for charges - but have not seen them yet. I'll look again later. Right now I think I have to go deal with the cottonwood sprouts in my planting beds. It snows cottonwood in late June here.
Oh, the white car was still there as of Monday.
