Elon Musk Is Right: The Road to Tyranny Is Paved With Fear

The founder, CEO, and chief engineer at SpaceX, Elon Musk, recently tweeted a rather pertinent message to his 62 million followers: “If you scare people enough, they will demand removal of freedom. This is the path to tyranny.”

He’s right. It is. Joseph Stalin knew this better than most. One day, in front of his closest advisers, Stalin supposedly picked up a live rooster, plucked it, and placed it back down on the ground. The featherless bird, terrified and covered in blood, ran away. However, in this particular room, the door was closed. The rooster couldn’t escape. Left with no option, it returned to Stalin. Freezing cold, it rubbed itself between the dictator’s legs for warmth. Stalin looked at his advisers, smiled, and said: “Now, you see, people are like chickens. Pluck them, and then let them go.” Soon enough they’ll come back; after that, you “control them.”

Stalin is dead. But similar methods of control are very much alive. Around the world, tyranny is on the rise. Fear has been weaponized.

When one thinks of tyranny, they often think of places like China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. And for good reason. These countries are synonymous with tyranny. They are places where civil liberties simply don’t exist.

But what about Australia? What about Canada? What about the United States? Unlike the aforementioned countries, where malevolent tyranny reigns supreme, Australia, Canada, and the United States offer their citizens a “benevolent” form of tyranny, where some, but not enough, civil liberties exist. Now, before I am accused of being hyperbolic, let me remind you that in Australia, up until very recently, COVID internment camps existed.

Governments, aided by the mainstream media, have weaponized fear. Because of this, society has broken into two very different groups. One group is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, an emotional response in which hostages develop a psychological bond with their captors. It’s not a logical response. It’s not based on reasoning. It’s based on fear.

Again, before I am accused of hyperbole, let me point you in the direction of the self-labeled “Fauci groupies,” the thrice vaccinated, mask-loving celebrities who have spent inordinate amounts of time singing the praises of Anthony Fauci. Now, of course, I am not accusing Dr. Fauci of holding anyone hostage. But he has been instrumental in the policies that have left many people feeling like hostages. He was key to the introduction of unnecessary lockdowns—lockdowns that left people without hope, without freedom, without work, and, most of all, without a connection to the broader community.

Millions of Americans may be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, but millions of others are experiencing something very different. It’s called London Syndrome, a condition in which those taken hostage refuse to do what their captors ask of them. We saw it last week, when thousands of Americans took part in the Defeat the Mandate rally. We have seen similar protests in Australia. In fact, we have seen demonstrations across the so-called “free world,” from the Netherlands to New Zealand.

In Canada, meanwhile, truckers are out in protest. Recently, thousands of Canadians gathered in the capital of Ottawa to protest vaccine mandates. To be clear, these truckers are not against vaccines; they are against mandates. They are not, contrary to popular opinion, just a “small, fringe minority.” If in doubt, just ask Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. What do the truckers want? They believe that, in a free world, human beings should be free to make their own decisions. They should not be forced to do anything that they don’t feel comfortable doing.

Self-determination still exists, or at least it did up until quite recently. The “Freedom Convoy,” as the truckers aptly named it, has captured the attention of the world. The truckers are demonstrating against government overreach in the country’s capital. Government overreach is something many readers, I’m sure, are all too familiar with. It’s also something, I’m sure, many readers are fed up with.

Epoch Times Photo

Freedom, something many of us took for granted before the pandemic brought the world to a screeching halt, is in short supply. Hope has been replaced by a profound sense of despair, with fear dominating the landscape. This is not a glitch in the system; it’s by design. Those in power actively promote it.

Why?

As Stalin knew only too well, a more fearful society is easier to control. A more fearful society never wants to go anywhere; a more fearful society is a more compliant one. However, as the truckers in Canada have shown us, we needn’t be afraid. Instead, we must be brave. We must be engaged, informed, and aware of the abuses that are occurring. We have two options: bow down and acquiesce, or stand up and have our voices heard. Which one sounds more appealing?

https://www.institutionalinvestor.com/article/b1wm2sc8df469v/Ray-Dalio-Says-the-U-S-Is-Headed-Toward-Civil-War

Ray Dalio Says the U.S. Is Headed Toward ‘Civil War’

Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio has joined a growing group of people who think the U.S. is headed for “some sort of civil war."

Dalio, writing in a LinkedIn Post Thursday, said that financial problems like high taxes and high inflation combined with a “large wealth and values gap” can lead to “some sort of fighting for control (rather than compromising according to the rules).”

“Suffice it to say that we are seeing most of these things happening in degrees that we’ve never seen in our lifetimes before but have happened many times before that prior to civil wars,” he wrote.

In making the civil war argument, Dalio has joined two authors who have been making waves in the media with their books on the topic: political scientist Barbara Walter (How Civil Wars Start: And How to Stop Them) and essayist Stephen Marche (The Next Civil War: Dispatches from the American Future). A number of political pundits have also opined on the topic following the violent insurrection by supporters of former president Donald Trump at the nation’s Capitol on January 6, 2021, and their continued refusal to respect the peaceful transfer of power following President Biden’s victory.

Dalio said he also covers the topic in his book, Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order, especially his chapter titled “The Big Cycle of Internal Order and Disorder.”

More than other writers on the topic, the hedge fund billionaire looks at the economic conditions that make the U.S. ripe for such an internal conflict. He said that he has looked at “cycles of rises and declines of different historical cases.”

“By most of the measures that I use, the current financial conditions and irreconcilable differences in desires and values are consistent with the ingredients leading to some form of civil war,” he said.

These conditions “are leading to much greater amounts of populism/extremism and conflicts between the right and the left, which is classic,” he added. Other writers on the topic, however, view civil conflict emanating from the right wing in the U.S., which is heavily armed. As Michelle Goldberg wrote recently in the New York Times, “It’s no secret that many on the right are both fantasizing about and planning civil war.”

Dalio’s book details six stages that lead to civil war, starting with consolidation of power following a conflict or revolution. He said the stages continue “like the progression of a disease.” He believes that the U.S. is in “stage five.”

In his scenario, a country goes from “peace and prosperity” (stage three) to “a period of excess” — which he labels the “bubble prosperity phase” (stage four).

During the period of excess, he said, “Wealth and opportunity gaps are large and resentments between classes emerge.”

The next, or fifth, stage occurs when both the county and its citizens are in “bad financial shape,” and “class warfare intensifies.” (So far, however, clashes in the U.S. have been based more on race than class.)

Dalio expressed concern about the 2022 elections, which he fears will be dominated by extremists from both sides of the ideological spectrum. “Hopefully, but not certainly, we will get through this election with the election rules prevailing without a fight over them. That will set the stage for two more years of fighting that will likely lead to either irreconcilable differences and lack of progress or worse,” he predicted.

But he noted, there will still be problems ahead. “For example, the Supreme Court will make decisions on contentious issues that people are willing to fight over.”

Warned Dalio: “The biggest question is how much the system will bend before it breaks.”

On Monday the incredible people of Iowa exercise their sacred right to peaceably assemble and participate in the great Iowa Caucus! One of the most time-honored and American of traditions. Neighbors will join together to cast their votes and determine their future.

However, the corrupt and elitist Democrat Establishment wants to steal Iowa’s First-in-the-Nation status. They want to limit your freedoms, silence your voices, strangle your livelihoods, and restrict your God-given right to nominate your political leaders.

Coastal Democrats allow illegal aliens to vote in California and New York, but are attempting to stifle the free speech of great American Patriots.

With me, Iowa will ALWAYS keep its first-in-the-Nation status. The great people of Middle America will have a powerful vote and voice. Iowans, make sure you go out on Monday and participate in your precinct caucus!

Thank you to Governor Reynolds, Senator Grassley, and Chairman Kaufmann for fighting hard against the Radical Democrats!

Gen. Milley says Kyiv could fall within 72 hours if Russia decides to invade Ukraine: sources

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told lawmakers that Kyiv could fall within 72 hours if a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine takes place, multiple congressional sources tell Fox News.

Milley told lawmakers during closed-door briefings on Feb. 2 and 3 that a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine could result in the fall of Kyiv within 72-hours, and could come at a cost of 15,000 Ukrainian troop deaths and 4,000 Russian troop deaths.

Several lawmakers expressed concern that the Biden administration did not respond quickly to provide Ukraine with significant military aid, such as anti-aircraft and rocket launcher systems that would defend against an invasion from Russia.

Biden administration officials at the meetings responded to these concerns by saying that a significant supply of military aid to Ukraine could be used as a reason to invade Ukraine.

While Ukraine is receiving security assistance from the United States through a $200 million allocation made in December, it is also receiving $600 million in assistance from the United Kingdom and Baltic states, which the country is depending heavily upon and includes anti-tank Javelin missiles and older-version Stinger portable anti-aircraft missiles.

Mark Milley, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, Deputy Commerce Secretary Don Graves, and USAID Deputy Administrator Ambassador Isobel Coleman.

The United States is also working to make preparations for a significant refugee and migrant crisis, one person familiar with the planning said. European allies are also leading discussions on housing and migrant flows under the assumption that Ukrainian nationals would flee to other portions of Europe.

A former U.S. ambassador to Canada said groups in the U.S. need to cease interfering in what many call an occupation in Canada's capital as protesters opposed to vaccine mandates and COVID-19 restrictions held rallies in cities across the country in a show of solidarity with a week-long demonstration in Ottawa.

“Under no circumstances should any group in the USA fund disruptive activities in Canada. Period. Full stop,” Bruce Heyman, a former U.S. ambassador under President Barack Obama, tweeted late Saturday.

After crowdfunding site GoFundMe said it would refund or redirect to charities the vast majority of millions raised by demonstrators protesting COVID-19 measures in the Canadian capital, prominent U.S. Republicans like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis complained.

“It is a fraud for @gofundme to commandeer $9M in donations sent to support truckers and give it to causes of their own choosing,” DeSantis tweeted.

He added he would investigate these deceptive practices and donors should be given a refund. But GoFundMe had already changed its mind and said it would be issuing refunds to all. GoFundMe said it cut off funding for the organizers because it had determined the effort violated the site’s terms of service due to unlawful activity. Ontario Premier Doug Ford is calling it an occupation.

Ottawa declares state of emergency amid trucker convoy protest

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson is declaring a state of emergency to give the city more flexibility to deal with ongoing protests that have overwhelmed local resources.

In a brief release, the city says the decision reflects the “serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents” from protesters encamped through much of the downtown core.

The decision gives the city some additional powers around procurement and how it delivers services. The city’s release noted those powers could help purchase equipment required by frontline workers and first responders.

The release also says the decision underlines the need for support from upper levels of governments.

Earlier Sunday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said the province has backed Ottawa during the nine-day protest that critics have branded an occupation.

“While we cannot direct the police, we have provided the City of Ottawa everything they have asked for and will continue to provide whatever support they request,” Ford said in a tweet.

A swell of 250 RCMP officers bolstered police presence in the national capital on Sunday. Ottawa police said more than 450 tickets have been issued to demonstrators since Saturday morning for excessive noise, red light violations, driving a vehicle on a sidewalk and setting off fireworks, among others.

Almost 100 criminal investigations were underway, including cross-border investigations into what Ottawa police said were “email-based threats to public officials.”

Police also said on Sunday that anyone trying to bring items like gasoline or supplies to protesters and the 500 vehicles downtown could be arrested.

John Durham going deep into Russiagate

Rowan Scarborough

11-14 minutes

OPINION:

“Russiagate” special counsel John H. Durham is signaling he’s not at the end of investigating the Democratic Party scandal of promoting fake allegations to ruin candidate and former President Donald Trump.

Mr. Durham’s court update on Jan. 25 says he has gained access to voluminous FBI internal affairs case files. The Inspection Division is investigating agents for misconduct in Crossfire Hurricane, as the Trump probe was dubbed. Crossfire relied on the Democratic Party’s Christopher Steele dossier, which proved to be a bundle of falsehoods.

The U.S. District Court filing also tells of an internal tug-of-war in which the Justice Department’s top watchdog, Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz, has to be prodded to turn over everything related to Mr. Durham’s wide mandate. The delay is ironic. Mr. Horowitz blew the lid on FBI Crossfire misconduct in a lengthy 2019 report that detailed FBI rule breaking.

Three times in his 19-page submission Mr. Durham tells the judge that his team is conducting an “active, ongoing criminal investigation” not limited to the defendant, former Hillary Clinton campaign legal adviser Michael A. Sussmann.

This is not good news for President Biden and his designee at Justice, Merrick Garland. They want a quick end to the narrative of Democratic Party dirty tricks and political pollution.

In 2016, behind the scenes, as a Clinton campaign agent, Mr. Sussmann was a prime promoter to the press and Obama FBI of the fabled Alfa Bank storyline.

It went this way: Mr. Trump set up a secret back channel from a computer server in Pennsylvania to Alfa Bank, a huge Moscow-based commercial lender controlled by billionaire Russian oligarchs. They and Mr. Trump called it conspiracy fiction. More importantly, the FBI concluded the Alfa claim was unfounded and closed the case in February 2017.

Mr. Sussmann’s problem, according to a September indictment, is that when he briefed then-FBI general counsel James Baker on supposed Alfa-Trump crimes, he said he was not representing a client. In fact, he was there for the Clinton campaign, and thus the indictment’s single criminal charge of lying to the bureau.

Mr. Durham’s filing discloses new anecdotal material amid his principal goal of updating the judge on prosecution evidence turned over to Mr. Sussmann. Mr. Durham brags about all the stuff: over 130,000 pages with 492,000 still to come. Some papers carry the intelligence community’s highest classifications, meaning they deal with top secret sources and collection methods.

And there is the FBI’s complete Alfa Bank electronic case file. This means we should learn at some point (a trial is scheduled for May) why/how agents disproved Alfa when Democratic operatives such as Fusion GPS’ Glenn Simpson of dossier fame and Mr. Sussman himself swore by it.

It is Mr. Durham’s tidbits that make his memo so interesting.

Marc Elias was the Clinton campaign general counsel whose firm Perkins Coie obtained Democratic Party money to finance private investigator Fusion GPS who hired ex-British intelligence officer Christopher Steele who then produced the dossier. The momentous marriage would turn out to be one of the great modern political dirty tricks.

Mr. Elias told House investigators in December 2017 he believed the dossier had stood up to scrutiny and was accurate. Mr. Elias, who left Perkins Coie to form his own election law firm, has testified to the Durham grand jury, the Jan. 25 filing says.

Mr. Elias is not identified by name in the Sussmann indictment, but someone with a similar description is listed as “Campaign Lawyer 1.”

The indictment says that individual briefed the Clinton campaign’s upper management on Mr. Sussmann’s Alfa Bank’s conspiracy theory, coordinated with Mr. Sussmann — then a Perkins Coie colleague — as he allegedly tried to sell the story to the news media. “Campaign Lawyer 1” then communicated with the tech executive, Rodney Joffe (CNN reported on Sept. 30 that Mr. Joffe was the person identified as “Tech Executive-1” in the indictment), who allegedly rounded up the Internet spreadsheets that served as the Alfa Bank “smoking gun.”

For background, Alfa Bank has said in a separate court case that someone created false Domain Name System footprints to make it look like the bank was pinging the Trump-rented server, a spam marketing vehicle in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Elias now fights to save democracy by opposing new voting integrity laws and by promoting the Democrats’ various bills to take over state elections.

Personally, I do not believe the egregious Steele dossier and all of its Kremlin-supplied falsehoods saved or bolstered U.S. democracy.

The Durham memo also says Mr. Sussmann wants to know if he was wiretapped and otherwise spied on. The prosecutor says he provided the defense team any relevant material.

Then there is the matter of Michael Horowitz, the Justice Department’s inspector general. The Durham memo makes it sound as if the IG is not fully cooperating. His office declined to comment.

It turns out that Mr. Sussmann had entry into Mr. Horowitz’s world. He met with Mr. Horowitz in early March 2017, but the IG did not inform Mr. Durham even after he made a general discovery request.

“The OIG had not previously informed the Special Counsel’s Office of this meeting with the defendant,” Mr. Durham states. “Over the past few days, including over this last weekend, the OIG has been gathering and providing further documentation and information relating to that meeting to the Special Counsel’s Office.”

Mr. Sussmann represented Mr. Joffe, the tech entrepreneur who sold the Alfa story to Mr. Sussmann and to the press under a fake name.

Mr. Joffe wanted to let Mr. Horowitz know that one of his agents was seen on the internet connected to a Virtual Private Network located overseas. The Sussmann indictment stated that Mr. Joffe had access to public and nonpublic internet traffic. (Mr. Joffe’s name emerged in Alfa Bank’s civil lawsuit.) The significance of the VPN incident is not spelled out by Mr. Durham.

There’s more IG intrigue. This month, Mr. Durham found out “for the first time” that Mr. Horowitz possessed two cell phones belonging to the FBI’s Mr. Baker, the recipient of Mr. Sussmann’s alleged lie. The special counsel is now exploiting the phones.

On his exploration of FBI internal affairs files, Mr. Durham said, “There are numerous sensitivities and legal considerations surrounding these interview reports and related documents.”

Overall, he said, “The Government also maintains an active, ongoing criminal investigation of the defendant’s conduct and other matters.”

Mr. Durham has few friends in Washington outside of the conservative press and dossier-focused Republicans, who themselves have few friends among Washington’s dominant liberal establishment. It wants the dossier memory-holed. Former Trump Attorney General William Barr appointed Mr. Durham to assure that that doesn’t happen — unless Mr. Garland at some point vanquishes the prosecutor back to his home state of Connecticut.

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has decided to use state resources to investigate GoFundMe for dumping a group of controversial anti-vaccine truckers protesting in Canada who have been accused by Ottawa police of “unlawful” activity.

The “Freedom Convoy” of truckers has been protesting for a week in downtown Ottawa over the requirement that the drivers must be vaccinated before they can drive across the border into the U.S.

The truckers’ convoy was hit Friday with a $9.8 million class-action complaint for relentlessly blasting their air horns while jamming downtown Ottawa streets. They have also been accused of harassing area residents and shoppers, even assaulting some, and ripping masks off residents’ faces.
