Canadian man drives SUV through group of Freedom Convoy protesters, injuring 4

A Canadian man is facing criminal charges after plowing through a group of protesters taking part in the Freedom Convoy of truckers protesting the country’s coronavirus vaccine mandates Friday night.

"A 42yr old male is facing charges after driving through a group of protesters that were part of the Freedom Convoy at the Legislative grounds," the Winnipeg Police tweeted Saturday. "4 adult males were struck."

In an accompanying press release, police say the driver in a Jeep Patriot plowed through the crowd and then sped off at high speeds before being chased down by police and arrested after a brief struggle.

Three people sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention and the fourth was treated in the hospital and released.

"A 42-year-old male from Headingly, Manitoba, faces charges of: Assault with Weapon x 4, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Cause Bodily Harm x 2, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Fail to Stop After Accident Knowing That Reckless x 2, Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident x 2," police say.

Graphic video of the incident circulated on social media showing a group of people peacefully protesting before being struck by the Jeep and chasing after it as it fled.

The Freedom Convoy is composed of truckers and other protesters who are demanding the Canadian government end federal COVID-19 mandates including vaccine requirements for cross-border travel.

The convoy began Jan. 23 and culminated with hundreds of thousands of demonstrators arriving in Ottawa, Canada's capital, on Jan. 29 to protest the mandates. Many truckers have remained parked in the same places since the weekend in below-freezing temperatures, honking their horns and revving their engines.

"We're all brothers in this together, and we're here for one cause, and that's the fight for the freedoms of Canadians and for Canada itself," one trucker, Andrew, told Fox News.

Canadian trucker Mat Mackenzie said on Friday that the freedom convoy isn't going to stop until the Canadian government removes COVID vaccine mandates.

"They are not giving in and I got to say, we have a message to bring to all Canadians and the world watching that our freedoms matter," Mackenzie told Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino on "America’s Newsroom."

Spotify Removes Dozens of 'Joe Rogan Experience' Episodes: Report

Swedish streaming platform Spotify recently pulled down more than 70 episodes of “The Joe Rogan Experience” from its services since Friday, according to reports.

The tech giant removing the episodes comes amid controversy Joe Rogan is facing in connection to the opinions presented by his guests regarding the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus—with several musicians, as well as White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, accusing the top-rated podcast host of “spreading COVID-19 misinformation” on his popular show.

However, the shows that were removed aren’t directly connected with the controversy because the episodes were from years ago. Rogan has had his podcast for more than a decade.

The removal was spotted by the web tool, JREMissing.com, which tracks missing episodes.

A total of 113 episodes had been removed as of Feb. 5.

Michael Malice, a Ukrainian-American author and media personality, said on Twitter that two episodes he previously featured in were pulled down, also noting that both episodes were pre-pandemic.

There has been no confirmation on the specific reason Spotify quietly removed the episodes, but Rogan recently posted an almost five-minute video on his personal Instagram account where he mentioned a compilation of video clips made by critics that featured him “using racial slurs.”

Rogan said in the post that the compilation of video clips made of him using inappropriate language was used out of context and he never wanted to offend anyone.

“I’m making this video to talk about the most regretful and shameful thing that I’ve ever had to talk about publicly,” Rogan said. “There is a video that is out … of me saying the N-word. It’s a video that is made of clips taken out of context of me—of 12 years of conversations on my podcast, and it is all smushed together.”

“There’s nothing I can do to take that back. I wish I could. obviously, that’s not possible,” he said. “I certainly wasn’t trying to be racist, and I certainly would never want to offend someone for entertainment with something as stupid as racism.”

Rogan continued that he hasn’t used the word in years, explaining that “it’s not [his] word to use,” adding that he’s well aware of that.

The move comes as Spotify CEO Daniel Ek announced earlier this week that the company will be introducing content advisory warnings on episodes that include the CCP virus.

Psaki said during a White House press briefing on Tuesday while responding to a question by a reporter on Spotify’s decision to add disclaimers that it is “a positive step”—but the Biden administration wants “every platform to continue doing more” in calling out “COVID-19 misinformation.”

Several artists have recently demanded Spotify to remove episodes of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast from the platform after claiming the 54-year-old host promoted false information about the CCP virus and vaccines.

Rogan has responded to the critics that he wasn’t trying to “promote misinformation” or “be controversial”—adding that he was simply seeking to have conversations on his podcast with people who have “differing opinions.”

The host noted that in the future he could book doctors with different opinions right after talking to “controversial ones” and make sure that he researches everything before discussing them.

The Jan. 6 committee obtained records of Trump and Jim Jordan speaking on the morning of the insurrection, CNN said.

Jordan has previously claimed that he only spoke to Trump on January 6 after the attack, not before.

The committee has been considering whether to subpoena Jordan after he refused to voluntarily cooperate.

Records obtained by the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot show that former President Donald Trump spoke to Rep. Jim Jordan for 10 minutes on the morning of the insurrection, CNN reported.

The afternoon of January 6, Republican congressman Jordan took to the House floor to object to the certification of President Joe Biden's Electoral College win, and Trump supporters stormed the Capitol.

Jordan has previously been evasive about his communications with Trump on the day. In October, he told a House Rules Committee hearing that he only remembered speaking to Trump after the attack, not before or during.

However, two sources who viewed the call records told CNN that Trump called Jordan that morning from the White House and that the two spoke for 10 minutes.

Jordan told CNN on Friday that he spoke with Trump "multiple times" on January 6 but did not recall the timings.

A spokesman for Rep. Jordan told Insider, "Mr. Jordan has always maintained that he doesn't remember when he spoke to the President that day (as he told CNN yesterday)."

The call logs are among documents turned over by the National Archives to the House committee after the US Supreme Court rejected Trump's bid to block their release last month.

The January 6 committee has been trying to obtain the records to gain a fuller picture of the president's communications on the day of the riot.

The new details about the call come as the committee considers whether to issue a subpoena for Jordan after he refused to appear voluntarily.

The select committee previously wrote to Jordan to ask to discuss his communications with Trump "in detail," as well as any communications he had with individuals at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC, and Trump's legal team.

Jordan, an ardent supporter of Trump, has accused the committee of being "partisan" and said he has "no confidence that the Select Committee will fairly or accurately represent" any information he gives them.

First US Troops Arrive in Poland to Reinforce NATO Amid Russia–Ukraine Tensions

The first U.S. troops reinforcing NATO allies in Eastern Europe amid Russia–Ukraine tensions arrived at a military base in southeastern Poland on Saturday.

A handful of U.S. troops arrived in a small Beechcraft C-12 Huron that landed at Rzeszow military base shortly after 10 a.m. on Feb. 5, Polish military spokesman Major Przemyslaw Lipczynski told the Polish Press Agency (PAP).

Lipczynski said the arrivals included some support and command-level staff, adding that a much larger contingent is expected to arrive at the airfield on Sunday. The second transport was initially slated for arrival on Saturday afternoon, but those plans were changed for undisclosed reasons, Lipczynski added.

“We await the arrival of our allies,” Lipczynski told PAP, adding that “our collaboration has been going very smoothly.”

In total, some 1,700 U.S. soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, are expected to be stationed in Poland, the spokesman said, describing it as an elite rapid response force that Polish troops have worked with on multiple occasions.

“We served alongside them on missions, including Iraq and Afghanistan,” Lipczynski said, adding that the soldiers had also trained together during international war games like Dragon and Anaconda.

“We can count on each other, and trust one another,” he added.

The U.S. troop contingent arrived on the same day that the Russian Defense Ministry announced it had sent a pair of long-range nuclear-capable bombers on patrol over Moscow ally Belarus, which shares a border with Poland.

“In the course of their flight, the long-range aircraft practiced joint tasks with the air force and air defense of the Belarusian armed forces,” the ministry said, according to Russian state news agency TASS. The patrol mission lasted around four hours, after which the Russian planes returned to base in Russia.

The patrol mission came as the Kremlin has moved troops from Siberia and other remote parts of Russia to Belarus for sweeping joint drills, with the deployment adding to a large Russian military buildup near Ukraine that has fueled Western fears of a possible invasion.

Russia has denied any plans of attacking Ukraine and has asked the United States and its allies for a binding commitment that they won’t accept Ukraine into NATO.

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has pushed for his country’s admission into the military alliance.

The Kremlin has also asked the United States and its allies to promise not to deploy offensive weapons and to roll back NATO deployments to Eastern Europe.

Washington and NATO have rejected those demands.

“From our perspective. I can’t be more clear—NATO’s door is open, remains open, and that is our commitment,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in late January, though he renewed an offer of “reciprocal” measures to address mutual security concerns between Russia and NATO, including missile reductions in Europe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signaled Moscow’s readiness for more talks with Washington and its NATO allies.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz are set to make separate trips on Feb. 7–8 and Feb. 14–15 to Kyiv and Moscow as part of a high-level diplomatic effort to defuse tensions.

American soldiers sent by President Biden to reinforce the US’ NATO allies have touched down in Germany

Soldiers with the US Army’s 18th Airborne Corps touched down at Wiesbaden Army Airfield on Friday, unloading vehicles and equipment from military transport planes. The soldiers are the first of 2,000 US troops ordered to NATO countries in Eastern Europe amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Moscow over Ukraine.

According to the US’ European Command, the soldiers will set up a headquarters in Germany, while 1,700 paratroopers with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division head to Poland, which borders Ukraine. Altogether, 2,000 troops from Fort Bragg in North Carolina will head to Europe over the coming days.

Video footage showed the troops disembarking their planes on Friday evening and unloading packs and vehicles.

The deployment is intended to “deter and defend against any aggression” from the Russian military, said the White House, which maintains that Russia is planning an attack on Ukraine. Moscow has denied these claims, and rubbished allegations by US intelligence agencies that it is planning on staging a ‘false flag’ incident to justify such an attack.

The US maintains that Ukraine should be allowed to join the NATO alliance, something that Russia has for decades deemed an unacceptable threat to its security. Throughout negotiations, Moscow has demanded that the US and NATO halt the continued expansion of the Cold War-era alliance, but leaders in Washington and Brussels have refused to consider such a move.

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has called the US deployment a “destructive step” that would only “delight” the Ukraine's pro-Western government, as well as “increase military tension and reduce the margin for political solutions.”
