Italian ambassador to Australia Francesca Tardioli dies after reportedly falling from third floor of her Umbria home
Tributes are flowing for Italy's ambassador to Australia Francesca Tardioli, whose "premature death" at her northern Italy home was described as "heartbreaking news".
The Italian ambassador to Australia has died in what is believed to be a tragic incident at her home.
Francesca Tardioli was found dead outside her property in Foligno, north of Rome, on Sunday, Italian media reported.
News outlets claimed the 56-year-old lost her balance while looking over a balcony.
Local police will investigate the circumstances around the death of the mother-of-two.

Foreign Minister Marise Payne described Ms Tardioli as a diplomat who was "greatly respected".
"I am deeply saddened at news of the passing of Italy's Ambassador to Australia, Francesca Tardioli - a greatly respected diplomat who will be dearly missed," she wrote on Twitter.
"My thoughts are with her family, friends, colleagues at this difficult time."
Australia's ambassador to Italy, Margaret Twomey, also paid tribute to Ms Tardioli on social media.
"Heartbreaking news on the passing of Ambassador Francesca Tardioli. Dear friend. Brilliant colleague. Greatly respected diplomat," she wrote.
The Italian Embassy also shared its condolences to an "exquisite person".
"We mourn the premature death of Ambassador Francesca Tardioli. An exquisite person, professional model and promoter of human rights," it said.
"We join in the pain of the family."
She held the ambassadorship position since September 2019.

An angry dad who throttled his seven-year old son in a fit of rage after he refused to stop playing video games threatened to 'stop him breathing'.
Nicholas Lester, a senior developer at Microsoft, went ballistic when his boy refused to stop playing his Nintendo Switch - a direct rival to Microsoft's Xbox games consoles.
'I will stop him breathing,' Lester screamed after placing his terrified son in a choke hold on February 6 last year.
'Your seven-year old son was effectively using his will against yours,' she said.
'In response you placed (him) in a headlock and were heard to be saying words to the effect "I'll stop you breathing". Your actions on this occasion raised the alarm of three independent witnesses who felt so concerned about what they had heard that police were called.'
At a previous hearing, the Herald Sun reported the boy's face went red as he yelled for his mother, who ran to the West Melbourne apartment bedroom.
'I can’t breathe,' the victim said.
Ms Boult lectured Lester on the basics of parenting.
'Children act up, play up, resist reasonable authority - that's what children do. That's what they will continue to do,' she said.
'As a parent it is your responsibility to never resort to an act of family violence. The buck stops with you. There is never an excuse for family violence and the court expects that you make choices that will keep your family safe no matter how angry you feel or what the circumstances are.'
The court heard the little boy had not submitted to the court a victim impact statement against his father.
But Ms Boult accepted he must have been 'terrified' by his father's abuse.
Despite her apparent revulsion at Lester's behaviour, the magistrate let Lester off-the-hook without recording a conviction.
Ms Boult said she accepted Lester had suffered from depression and had taken steps to improve his mental health.
She further accepted he had no prior convictions and that his job with Microsoft was now at risk after he was exposed as a child beater.

Shocking video emerged on Sunday that shows a group of Ottawa Police officers harassing a woman and threatening her with arrest for daring to record a video as she walked down the street to get a coffee.
Immediately upon spotting the camera, the officer begins to get hostile.
“Why is that camera in my face right now? The officer asks angrily. “Are you here partaking [in the protest]? You are in the red zone right now.”
“I’m scared. I want to go for a coffee down there,” the pedestrian replies, pointing behind the officers.
After questioning her about where she’s from and finding out she is from Alberta, not Ottawa, the officers get visibly irritated and immediately tell her it’s “time for you to leave.”
“I can’t even go down there for a coffee?” she asks in disbelief.
“No, you are in the red zone right now. If you don’t leave right now you will be arrested,” he replies.
As the woman turns to walk away, the camera pans to show that more officers have arrived. “Grab your stuff. We will be patrolling all day. If we see you again things will be different, the partner warns.
The partner’s words cause the woman to turn around and focus the camera onto the officers again, which causes the initial officer to launch forward and forcefully rip the camera out of her hands like a lunatic.
“What did I tell you? Take your camera and get outta here!” He yells. Walk away, your phone doesn’t need to be in our faces when you’re walking away.
As she grabs the phone to leave, he appears to hold onto the phone for an extra second in order to shout “get out of here” in her face.
Absolutely shameful.

Washington is again amping up predictions that a Russian invasion of Ukraine will proceed at any moment, this time based on “intelligence” reports that Moscow has already given military commanders orders to proceed with the attack, US media outlets claimed on Sunday.
President Joe Biden said on Friday that he believes his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, had “made the decision” to invade Ukraine, and Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reiterated that claim on Sunday. Such outlets as CNN and the New York Times said on Sunday that Biden’s claim was underpinned by US intelligence reports that the Kremlin had already given invasion orders.
After several weeks of warning that a Russian attack was “imminent,” Biden became even more convinced this week. CBS News claimed that concerns escalated as Washington’s intelligence agencies allegedly discovered that “Russian commanders” on the ground had received their orders and were making “specific plans” for maneuvers in their sectors of the battlefield. The outlet, however, noted that an invasion isn’t a certainty because Putin could change his mind.

Female teacher charged with child sex offences relating to male student
A female teacher has been charged with child sexual offences over her alleged interactions with a teenage male student.
ACT Policing's Criminal Investigations Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team (SACAT) started an investigation in December 2021 after receiving a report about a 26-year-old student teacher.
Yesterday a search warrant was executed at a residence in the Canberra suburb of Gowrie and a woman was arrested.
She was charged with one count of committing an act of indecency on a young person and one count of using a carriage service to send indecent material to a young person.
The woman is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today.
