Turkey will not close the sky for Russia
The sky is open over Turkey, Ankara does not intend to close the airspace for Russia. This statement was made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. In an interview with Anadolu agency, the head of Turkish diplomacy stressed that open airspace is important both from a strategic and humanitarian point of view. Turkey continues contacts with both Russia and Ukraine.
Earlier, a number of European countries from Great Britain to Poland and Bulgaria closed the airspace for Russian aircraft. In response, Moscow promised not to allow planes of the airlines of these countries over its territory. Turkey, being a NATO country, has stated that it will comply with the Montreux Convention and will not block the straits between the Mediterranean and Black Seas for the warships of the Black Sea countries, including Russia.
The US, UK and EU countries have imposed new sanctions on Russia after Moscow launched a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine. Vladimir Putin stressed that there is no talk of the occupation of Ukraine. Among the goals of the military operation are the protection of the civilian population of Donbass from shelling and bombing by Kiev-controlled armed formations , as well as the "demilitarization and denazification" of Ukraine.
