Indeed one can be "Good" even to their own detriment or even self destruction. I do not believe that indicates a presence of evil intent unless there is some invisible force driving the individually to elf-sacrifice to such an extent that they themselves are extinguished in the process… enh. That may be "Evil" but not the person themself I would think as they were un-aware.
Many arguments over whether or not self righteousness or ignorance as a cause to blame for any evil in that statement but to each their own.
