Because a lot of domain registrars are PC symphatizers.
Plus, the .ml TLD is a freebie registered on freenom.com, which means they don't give half a shit about terminating whatever service they were offering you.
Their ToS clearly states that's forbidden to have a website with content considered to be "homophobic", "insulting" or "racist".

I also found this article that shows reports being submit to the russian attorney-general's office and some other federal entity.

Their site doesn't seem to have been seized like the glowies usually do, but the webserver defaults to error 403 (I would think they did that on purpose after the attention from the media) and the domain redirects to the registrar's homepage.
