US Says It's Briefed European Governments On Possible Russian "Military Invasion" Of Ukraine
Here we go again with accusations of Russian troop build-up threatening Ukraine redux out of Washington, coming at a moment the US Navy is conducting drills in the Black Sea, and as tensions soar along the Belarus-EU border with Poland.
"With Washington closely monitoring a buildup of Russian forces near the Ukrainian border, U.S. officials have briefed EU counterparts on their concerns over a possible military operation, according to multiple people familiar with the matter," Bloomberg reports Thursday afternoon.
The alarm is being raised conveniently enough as Russia is being dragged politically into the ratcheting Mideast migrant standoff between Poland and Alexander Lukashenko's Belarus. Yesterday the Russian military flew a pair of Tu-22M3 bombers over Belarus in a show of solidarity with Moscow's ex-Soviet Republic ally.
Bloomberg writes further of the familiar refrain that's sounded every couple years following the original Crimea crisis: "Russia may be weighing a potential invasion of Ukraine as tensions flare between Moscow and the bloc over migrants and energy supplies" - however like with previous accusations there's little to nothing in the way of evidence.
Like with the same accusation of a troop build-up last spring, and claims last month of tens of thousands of "extra" Russian troops stationed near eastern Ukraine, the Kremlin has underscored it's able to move any troops around within its sovereign borders that it pleases.
The Bloomberg report admits that Washington "evidence" and intelligence for the new claims has yet be shared with European counterparts:
The assessments are believed to be based on information the U.S. hasn’t yet shared with European governments, which would have to happen before any decision is made on a collective response, the people said. They’re backed up by publicly-available evidence, according to officials familiar with the administration’s thinking.
The "public" evidence involves recent satellite imagery published in Western media outlets purporting to show Russian troops in the region across the border with Ukraine.

Sen. Ron Johnson sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Tuesday requesting information about how the FBI uses surveillance aircraft during riots and protests and what it does with the footage.
The Wisconsin Republican cited reports of the FBI using these aircraft to watch the 2014 unrest in Ferguson, Mo., 2015 demonstrations in Baltimore, and the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Kenosha footage is now being used as prosecutorial evidence in the criminal trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, raising questions about how the FBI preserves surveillance video and uses it.
“Given the FBI’s apparent use of surveillance aircraft during protests and unrest throughout the country, it is unclear how the FBI monitors those situations, how it preserves the footage from those aircraft, how it uses that footage, and whether the footage is captured at different quality levels,” Johnson wrote in his letter.
Johnson’s questions for Wray include how the FBI determines when and where to monitor potential unrest and how many aircraft to use, who exactly is responsible for monitoring the video, how the FBI shares its video with local law enforcement, and what the FBI does if its aircraft spot a crime happening. Johnson also inquired about whether the FBI records its footage at different levels of video quality and how it preserves the video it captures.
The letter specifically asks the FBI to disclose “[t]he number of surveillance aircraft the FBI used in Kenosha, Wisconsin on each day from August 23, 2020 – September 2, 2020,” spanning from the day Jacob Blake was shot through the deadly riots his shooting sparked.

LAPD tells residents ‘do not resist’ robbers, ‘cooperate and comply with demands’
The Los Angeles Police Department is advising residents of the California city to “cooperate and comply” with the demands of robbers and saying “do not resist” the suspects.
“If you are being robbed, do not resist the robbery suspects; cooperate and comply with their demands. Be a good witness,” the department said in a community alert on Monday.

After a robbery takes place, the LAPD said to immediately call 911. The victim should then write down everything they know about the crime, suspect, and suspect’s vehicle.

“Over 7,000 local kids 5-11 get first dose; ‘vaccine van’ headed to schools”
SAN DIEGO — More than 7,000 children ages 5-11 in San Diego have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and starting this week a “mobile vaccine van” will head to local campuses to help students and staff get their shots.
The van is the latest push to make doses more accessible to new age groups that have only recently become eligible for vaccination against the coronavirus. As of Tuesday, 7,320 children ages 5 through 11 had received their first shot of the Pfizer vaccine — the only one approved for that age group.
Starting with older kids, California has mandated the vaccines for schoolchildren, though the state only requires shots in cases where the age group has full FDA approval. For now, that’s teens 16 and older, while there’s emergency authorization for kids 12-and-up and 5-and-up.
While the shots for the youngest age bracket aren’t required for classroom instruction, county health officials are encouraging parents not to wait.
“It’s great that San Diegans are getting their booster shots and that parents are vaccinating their children,” said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer. “This will help to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as we enter the holiday season and into 2022. The more people who are vaccinated, the better off we’ll be at putting this pandemic behind us.”
To that end, a mobile vaccine van will head to sites around the county and provide the shots for free. The program will run at least through December and offer first- and second-dose shots of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, Johnson & Johnson vaccines and booster shots, all depending on which shots the student or staff member is eligible for.
“No appointments are necessary, although children under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian present,” San Diego Unified School District explained in a news release. “The exception is that students at the hosting school can receive a vaccine without a parent present with a signed parental consent form.”
Upcoming stops include the district’s Eugene Brucker Education Center in University Heights on Friday, Morse High School in southeast San Diego next Monday and Bell Middle School in Bay Terraces next Tuesday. View the full schedule here.

Social media users called out Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) after he called for Kyle Rittenhouse’s incarceration on Wednesday afternoon.
“Lock up Kyle Rittenhouse and throw away the key,” tweeted Jeffries while Rittenhouse’s trial was airing live on television.
However, Jeffries is a critic of America’s criminal justice system, and has often criticized the country for jailing too many citizens.
“End. Mass. Incarceration. Defund The Prison Industrial Complex,” Jeffries tweeted in June 2020.
As recent as March 2021, Jeffries called mass incarceration a “stain on our democracy.”
Many social media users quickly pointed out the hypocrisy of Jeffries wanting Rittenhouse to be jailed.

Joe Biden Sides with Chinese Solar Manufacturers Evading U.S. Tariffs
President Joe Biden’s Department of Commerce has sided with Chinese solar manufacturers who produce in Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, denying a request to investigate the manufacturers for evading United States tariffs on Chinese products.
This week, the Biden administration crushed a campaign by American solar manufacturers to ensure tariffs were imposed on products made by Chinese solar manufacturers who have shifted their production to other nearby foreign countries to avoid U.S. tariffs.
“The Commerce Department’s unwillingness to investigate illegal circumvention by Chinese solar companies is a gift to the Chinese Communist Party that comes at the expense of American companies and American workers,” Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) CEO Michael Stumo said in a statement:
President Biden promised to create 10 million green new jobs. Instead, this decision ensures that China’s use of Uyghur forced labor in Xinjiang to manufacture polysilicon will continue. The Biden administration claims to want to Build Back Better and boost U.S. domestic manufacturing but a decision like this that only benefits the Chinese Communist Party is a serious red flag that the Build Back Better initiative is nothing more than a slogan. The American Solar Manufacturers Against Chinese Circumvention, made up of a number of domestic manufacturers, filed a petition in August, asking the Biden administration to review whether Chinese solar manufacturers were illegally avoiding tariffs by moving production to Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Biden had been lobbied by 12 Senate Democrats who sent a letter asking the administration not to impose any tariffs on the products made in Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam by the Chinese solar manufacturers.
“New tariffs on solar products from these three countries would stall many ongoing and planned U.S. solar projects, negatively impacting every segment of the U.S. solar industry and resulting in significant job losses,” the Senate Democrats wrote.
Those who signed the letter include Sens. Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Tom Carper (D-DE), Angus King (D-ME), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Jack Reed (D-RI), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and John Hickenlooper (D-CO).
