Smallpox was declared eradicated in the 1950's.
1972 - last vaccine given in the US, except to lab workers.
Smallpox vaccination is administered by dipping a two pronged needle into the vaccine fluid, then jabbing the needle forcefully into the person’s arm.
It's supposed to leave a scar, in my case it did not, I was revaccinated 3 times times, no scar. Years later I found out my grandmother survived smallpox, my dad also would not scar. It was speculated we had inherited immunity.
That explains the interest in my blood as a child.
