Project DYNAMO rescues Americans from Afghanistan with help from local aviation company
SAN MARCOS, Texas - 47 Americans and legal residents left behind in Afghanistan are back home safe in the United States thanks to Project DYNAMO. A group of military vets has been working behind the scenes to help rescue those stranded. The mission has been months in the making to bring American family's home.
It’s a dangerous journey these veterans are taking on to rescue the Americans that were stranded when President Joe Biden ordered the withdrawal of U.S. troops.
“We’ve been doing evacuations pretty much almost daily since August 20,” Co-founder of Project DYNAMO Bryan Stern said.
The organization is made up of military vets who have vowed to never leave an American behind.
“It’s just a shame it’s come to this where the private sectors have had to come together to pull the last of the Americans, LPRs, and allies out,” Berry Aviation Chairman Rick Nagel said.
With the help of Berry Aviation out of San Marcos, Project DYNAMO has rescued more than 2,000 Americans and Legal Permanent Residents from Afghanistan by air and land. The mission has been privately funded through donations from fellow veterans, service members, and their families, as well as people around the world.
The most recent mission happened earlier this month saving 47 people including children. The youngest of the children was just 11 months old which makes history for the youngest American rescued by Project DYNAMO.
“It’s just incredibly special to see that group of Americans get off that airplane and clear customs with their luggage in hand and their American flags. I mean there just can’t be a better Christmas present,” Nagel said.
Berry Aviation is helping provide the plane costs to Afghanistan. Stern said the mission wasn’t an easy one as the Taliban has been making flights like this difficult.
“We’ve got to do what we can as a country to get the remaining Americans out who have chosen to stay because they want to provide some level of protection and support for their family members that they also want to try to bring to safety,” Nagel said.
For Project DYNAMO this mission is far from over as they make sure no American is left behind.

Spider bites Australian man on penis again

A 21-year-old Australian tradesman has been bitten by a venomous spider on the penis for a second time.
The man was using a portable toilet on a Sydney building site on Tuesday, when he suffered a repeat of the incident five months ago.
Jordan, who preferred not to reveal his surname, said he was bitten on "pretty much the same spot" by the spider.
"I'm the most unlucky guy in the country at the moment," he told the BBC.
"I was sitting on the toilet doing my business and just felt the sting that I felt the first time.
"I was like 'I can't believe it's happened again.' I looked down and I've seen a few little legs come from around the rim." …
