AT&T and Verizon Communications have rejected calls by the US aviation authority to delay the introduction of 5G networks amid concerns they could interfere with aircraft.
The 5G networks will be put in operation in America on January 5, as originally planned, the CEOs of the two major telecom companies announced. They dismissed requests made earlier by US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) chief Steve Dickson to halt the rollout, stating it would be “an irresponsible abdication of the operating control required to deploy world-class and globally competitive communications networks.”
AT&T and Verizon Communications did agree not to deploy 5G networks in the immediate vicinity of airports for six months.

Investment bank Morgan Stanley has agreed to pay $60 million to settle a lawsuit by clients who claim the bank exposed their personal data by failing to upgrade its technology.
Morgan Stanley was accused of failing to properly dispose of two wealth management data centers in 2016. The unencrypted equipment was resold with customer data still on them. While in 2019, Morgan Stanley allegedly transferred some older servers to a third party - which it later recovered according to court papers.
A preliminary settlement of the proposed class-action lawsuit was filed last Friday in a Manhattan federal court, and now requires District Judge approval. Under the settlement, around 15MN customers would receive at least two years of fraud insurance coverage, and each can apply for reimbursement of up to $10,000.
While agreeing to pay up, Morgan Stanley denied any wrongdoing. (Reuters)

Montreal: Fines of $4,700 to Hit Dozens of COVID Curfew Protesters
Many in the Canadian city are facing hefty fines for a protest against a nighttime curfew.
Quebec's premier announced the measure would be reimposed for an indefinite amount of time last week, in response to the spread of Omicron. Those breaking it will be fined almost $5K.
Last year the curfew imposed in Jan was not lifted until the end of May.
