Left Launches Effort to Win Midterms by Disqualifying Republicans for ‘Insurrection’

Some Democrats are using the anniversary of last year’s Capitol riot on January 6 to launch an effort to win the 2022 midterm elections by disqualifying Republicans who supported the effort to challenge the 2020 elections results as “insurrectionists.”

The effort, spearheaded by Russia hoaxer Marc Elias, aims to use a provision of the post-Civil War 14th Amendment that was crafted to disqualify former Confederates or anyone who “shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof” from holding federal office. Elias has pushed the effort for months:

Elias is the main election lawyer for the Democratic Party nationwide and has worked closely with national party leaders.

Liberal groups — one even calling itself “Free Speech For People” — are following suit. In a press statement Wednesday, they said:

Nonprofit public interest organizations Free Speech For People and Our Revolution today announced a partnership to urge Secretaries of State to bar elected officials who engaged in the January 6, 2021 insurrection from appearing on any future ballot.

“Secretaries of State have a duty to ensure that candidates who seek to appear on their state ballots meet the constitutional qualifications for serving in public office,” says Alexandra Flores-Quilty, Campaign Director for Free Speech For People, “Those who violated their oath of office by engaging in the violent January 6th insurrection do not meet these terms. Thus, we are urging election officials to make clear that insurrectionists such as President Trump and his Congressional allies are barred from ever again holding public office, as is required under the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution.”

“On many levels, our democracy is under threat, and grassroots activists are ready to stand up to defend it,” said Paco Fabián, Director of Campaigns for Our Revolution. “We need to demand that our election officers follow the rule of law and ensure that current and former elected officials who participated in the January 6th insurrection are barred from appearing on any future ballot.”

Anyone who assisted President Donald Trump’s team in encouraging challenges to the election results in Congress is defined as “participating” in the insurrection, according to the coalition, which cites a Rolling Stone report as its source, and names several incumbent Republican members of Congress whom it would disqualify for doubting the 2020 election results.

Some Democrats have already begun demanding the disqualification of Republicans who merely signed legal briefs supporting election challenges in the courts. As liberal constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley, who opposes the disqualification effort, noted recently, the U.S. vehemently opposes such efforts in other countries, such as Iran.

Moreover, as has been shown repeatedly, many Democrats have objected to the certification of election results in the past, and Elias himself led the Democrats’ effort to plant the idea that Trump’s election in 2016 was illegitimate because of “Russia collusion.”

According to the Democrats’ new standard, many of their own — including President Joe Biden — would be disqualified.

Article V of the U.S. Constitution gives states the power to call a Convention of States to propose amendments. It takes 34 states to call the convention and 38 to ratify any amendments that are proposed.

The full text of Article V reads:

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.

The Convention of States Action resolution allows the states to discuss amendment proposals that, “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, and place term limits on federal officials.” This is truly a solution as big as the problem.

Horowitz: Manhattan DA to downgrade armed robbery to misdemeanor amid growing crime wave

Last year, New York City experienced its worst crime wave in recent memory. Naturally, the response of the Soros DA in Manhattan was to make a New Year’s resolution to keep even more criminals out of jail.

As the NYPD is patrolling businesses to enforce “vaccine passport” mandates and drag 5-year-olds out of restaurants, don’t think that real criminals will get the same attention from law enforcement. Alvin Bragg, the newly elected Manhattan district attorney, sent out a memo to his staff on Monday directing prosecutors to not seek prison time for most criminals.

“This rule may be excepted only in extraordinary circumstances based on a holistic analysis of the facts, criminal history, victim’s input (particularly in cases of violence or trauma), and any other information available,” wrote Bragg in the memo obtained by the New York Post.

So, this is just for low-level crimes, right? Wrong! Bragg ordered prosecutors to charge armed robbers with petty larceny, which would have the effect of downgrading the maximum prison time from 25 years to one year. He also abolished life in prison without parole, even for the worst murderers and sex offenders. He further seeks to dramatically downgrade charges for certain residential burglars, drug dealers, and convicted criminals caught with weapons.

In other words, he is stepping on the gas pedal of every policy that has turned around the Giuliani miracle and has made many parts of Manhattan, including the subways, dangerous for the first time in a generation. This decision comes at a time when crimes of murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny, and grand larceny auto in New York rose above 100,000 incidents for the first time since 2016. According to NYPD data, felony assaults rose nearly 10% in 2021 – to the highest level since 2001. Car thefts were at the highest level since 2010, and incidents of gun violence were up 101% since 2019.

Many of these people who steal or maim on the streets in broad daylight that we have seen all too often in viral videos put out by the NYPD are mentally ill or homeless. Yet Bragg’s memo intimidates assistant district attorneys into not pursuing those criminals. “ADA’s should use their judgment and experience to evaluate the person arrested, and identify people: who suffer from mental illness; who are unhoused; who commit crimes of poverty; or who suffer from substance use disorders,” wrote Bragg. In other words, they shouldn’t prosecute them.

NBC Tells Parents to Double Mask Their Kids, Use N95 So 'Not A Lot of Air' Gets In

An NBC correspondent told Today Show viewers and hosts to double mask their kids before sending them to school if they can’t find the more heavy duty N95 mask in children’s sizes, so that “not a lot of air” gets through to their faces.

The instructions came from NBC journalist Vicky Nguyen, not a medical doctor, who appeared on the Today Show for a segment on renewed mask use and mandates as NBC and other corporate media outlets use their coverage to ramp up fears of COVID and its omicron variant, a mild version of the virus that persists in heavily vaccinated populations.

Despite massive amounts of medical research indicating mask mandates have likely been counter productive and developmentally damaging for children, Nguyen recommended that all Americans, especially children, wear as tight a fitting as possible or double up if heavy duty N and KN 95 masks are not available.

“They go all the way over your head,” Nguyen said of the heavy duty masks. “Not the most comfortable but very very snug. Not a lot of air is getting in between the sides of my cheeks or the tops of my cheeks.”

When asked to elaborate on masking guidelines for children, Nguyen doubled down on her tight-fitting mask advice, telling parents to use children’s sized N95 masks or to double up with a surgical and cloth mask if children’s sizes aren’t available, saying that she even outfits her own kids in two masks, making sure they stay on their faces all day long.

“Okay so we talked to [NBC’s] Dr. John Torres about this because I actually just sent my kids out the door this morning, minutes ago, with two masks,” Nguyen said.

“[Dr. Torres] says obviously the KN95 and N95 are the most effective but It can be really hard to find them in small kids sizes and also to keep them on your kids all day – they’re not the most comfortable.”

“So the second best option is to make sure you have a kids’ size surgical mask,” she continued, before telling parents to place the surgical mask on their child’s face before adding an additional layer of a cloth mask.

“So the surgical mask goes on first and then the cloth mask,” Nguyen said, going on to further convolute her instructions saying that if a second mask isn’t available, just one is fine too.

“If you can’t do that, surgical mask alone,” Nguyen said. “Dr. Torres says least best, but better than nothing, the two-layer cotton mask that fits your child. The best mask, certainly, is the one that your child will wear and keep on the whole day when they’re in the classroom.”

NBC seemed to think so much of the air restricting advice that they posted an article to their website following Nguyen’s Today Show appearance, containing a video recording of the segment and boasting that “experts” had weighed in on the matter.

Mayo Clinic Terminates 700 Unvaccinated Employees at Locations Nationwide

Mayo Clinic fired 700 employees on Tuesday because they were not vaccinated by its Monday deadline.

Employees had until Monday to receive their first dose of coronavirus vaccine if they were not granted a religious or medical exemption, according to the Star Tribune. The organization says it greenlit the majority of exemption applications.

Mayo Clinic employs about 73,000 people, so roughly one percent of its workforce was terminated Tuesday, according to CBS Minnesota.

Actions News Jax reports that the organization fired employees at locations nationwide.

Mayo Clinic released a statement, per KIMT, which reads in part:

While Mayo Clinic is saddened to lose valuable employees, we need to take all steps necessary to keep our patients, workforce, visitors and communities safe. If individuals released from employment choose to get vaccinated at a later date, the opportunity exists for them to apply and return to Mayo Clinic for future job openings.

The outlet spoke with Jessica Moore-Wright, who had worked for the organization for 14 years before losing her job on Tuesday.

“I believe in science and I also believe in a personal choice. I mean, I’ve had friends who have had cancer,” Wright-Moore said. “I’ve had friends that have had different viruses and they would do different things but I would never, ever tell somebody that you need to do this because I did. Ever.”

She says she applied for a religious exemption twice, but Mayo Clinic denied her request both times. Wright-Moore told KIMT that a representative informed her she could have her position back if she becomes inoculated within the next year.

She plans to stand by her decision.

“To be able to stand up for something you believe in is important,” she told the outlet. “I do think that every decision we make is important but if you believe in something strongly I don’t believe you should have to cave to keep a job.”

REPORT: Mexican Army Loses 30% of Weapons Purchased from U.S.

Mexico’s military is allegedly working to cover up its loss of weapons purchased from other countries.

Mexico’s Army (SEDENA) is losing approximately 30 percent of weapons purchased from the U.S., a report from Mexican journalist Carlos Loret De Mola revealed. The report comes as Mexico’s federal government litigates against firearm manufacturers in a U.S. court, blaming them for the raging cartel violence.

Those missing weapons are showing up in crime scenes. Mexico’s military has also allegedly misplaced weapons bought from Germany, Australia, Italy, Romania, Spain, and Belgium.

In Mexico, the Army is the only entity that can purchase weapons from other countries. Further, all weapons bought by federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as private citizens, are sold by SEDENA. Loret De Mola reports that a national center called CENAPI within the Attorney General’s Office keeps track of weapons found in crime scenes or seized from criminal organizations — but because of the lawsuit, they are suppressing information about Mexican Army guns in the hands of cartels. The CENAPI even denied requests for information about those weapons as a way to protect the military as being partly responsible in Mexico’s illicit gun trade.

The new allegations come at a time when Mexico’s military is plagued by scandals. State authorities in Oaxaca arrested a former general who was a candidate for secretary of defense on extortion charges in December.

Also in December, Canadian authorities arrested General Eduardo Leon Trauwitz on an extradition warrant from Mexico over his alleged role in the widespread theft of fuel, CBC reported.

In October 2020, U.S. authorities arrested former Mexican Secretary of Defense Salvador Cienfuegos on drug trafficking charges. Mexico’s government was able to secure his release claiming they would investigate and prosecute, but ultimately dismissed the case.

Rally Against Lockdowns Sees 100,000 Germans Protest, Ruling Party Demands Clampdown

More than 100,000 took to the streets in Germany on Monday night to protest the nation’s lockdown rules, as eastern members of the ruling Free Democratic Party demand a clampdown.

A number of protests have taken place in Germany, with estimates putting the number of anti-lockdown protesters attending events at over 100,000 in total nationwide. According to reports, 50,000 turned out in Baden-Wurtemburg, “tens of thousands” in Saxony, and 17,000 in Thuringia.

While a number of protests took place in the country with the permission of relative authorities, others went ahead despite non-compliance, with thousands attending so-called “unannounced” rallies despite being threatened with fines by police. Monday night ‘strolls’ have a history in Germany reaching back to the Communist era where protesting could be a dangerous occupation but simply going for an evening stroll after work on a Monday gave a level of plausible deniability.

While protests in a number of regions last night remained relatively peaceful, according to a report by Berliner Zeitung, others did experience some levels of violence.

Emergency services in Lichtenstein, Saxony, were attacked, resulting in 14 injuries. One officer reported being bitten.

Meanwhile, rioters in Saxony-Anhalt threw bottles and pyrotechnics at officials, though the police have reported that no officers were injured.

East German members of the ruling Free Democratic Party (FDP) have expressed a desire for security authorities to clamp down on violent protesters.

A strategy paper by the group’s eastern head, Hagen Reinhold, has called for better coordination between security authorities in dealing with internet bubbles and chats that he claims are used to mobilise people, according to a report by Der Spiegel.

CNN : ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ Dad Deserves to Have Life RUINED

Dean Obeidallah, a SiriusXM radio host and CNN opinion columnist, has issued a decree that Jared Schmeck deserves to have his life ruined, NewsBusters reported.

Schmeck is the man who called into the NORAD Santa Tracker Live Stream and wished hosts Joe and Jill Biden a “Merry Christmas.” He followed his holiday well wishes with a “Let’s go Brandon!”

To which President Biden responded: “Let’s go Brandon, I agree!”

Obeidallah, whose career is built on woke comedy and matchsticks, took to CNN to rail against Schmeck for using “coded phrases” to curse at the president.

Obeidallah conceded that free speech often dictates criticism towards sitting government officials, but believes that in this specific case, Schmeck’s joke was “despicable.”

He then goes on to say that Schmeck should not have censored himself at all:

“If you want to curse out a sitting POTUS, at least have the courage to do it outright rather than playing politically correct games and hiding behind coded phrases.”

He says this despite his apparent horror that this “coded phrase” was used on a livestream thousands of children were watching.

Finally, Obeidallah mocked Schmeck for defending himself after receiving threatening calls as a result of his phone conversation with Biden:

“Aww, poor ‘victim’ Schmeck,” Obeidallah said. “Apparently, he thinks he should be able to tell Biden to basically go f**k himself while on a family friendly holiday call, but no one should be able to take issue with his actions.”

Obeidallah, a left-wing tele-activist who writes propaganda under the guise of “comedy” and constantly retweets his own tweets, ends the article with a meager attempt at a joke:

“I don’t have any ill wishes towards Jared Schmeck. Instead, I just hope he enjoys Biden’s upcoming second year as president. And oh yeah, I hope no one tells him: “Let’s go Jared!”

If you would like to wish Obeidallah a cheerful “Let’s go Brandon!” please feel free to contact him through his email, Facebook, or Twitter accounts.

Biden Withholds Annual Report on Deportations

ICE fails to produce annual report for first time in more than a decade

The Biden administration has yet to release a report that details the number of illegal immigrants removed from the United States in 2021, keeping the public in the dark about its handling of the immigration crisis.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not release its annual report in 2021, a departure from standard agency practice since at least 2011. In each of the last nine years, ICE released the report in the final weeks of the calendar year, most recently on Dec. 23, 2020 during the Trump administration.

It is unclear whether ICE has completed the report, which provides a lengthy summary of the agency’s enforcement and removal operations, as well as immigration-related security threats. A spokeswoman for the immigration agency told the Washington Free Beacon a release date for the report has not been determined.

The absence of the 2021 annual report has prompted outrage on Capitol Hill. Sen. Josh Hawley (R., Mo.) questioned the motives behind the White House's secrecy on the topic of immigration.

"During record-breaking levels of illegal immigration, DHS and ICE have taken steps to dismantle interior enforcement operations that keep our communities safe from criminal aliens," Hawley told the Free Beacon. "I’ve been calling for transparency into these radical policy changes for months. If ICE is intentionally hiding their annual report from the public, then it’s safe to assume it doesn’t show any improvement; it shows failure."

The administration's decision not to release the ICE report marks the latest example of Biden's failure to live up to transparency standards set by both its Democratic and Republican predecessors. The Free Beacon in November reported that the White House violated a congressional statute with its failure to release its report on the number of illegal immigrants in the United States. The 2021 fiscal year saw more recorded illegal border crossings than any time in U.S. history.

This latest evasion comes as just 35 percent of voters approve of Biden's handling of immigration, according to a RealClearPolitics average of recent polls. Critics of the president's immigration policy accused Biden of hiding statistics as a way to avoid bad press.

"It's absolutely shocking that the release of the ICE report hasn't happened," former ICE chief of staff Jon Feere told the Free Beacon. "I assumed, at worst, they'd put it out on New Year’s Eve when nobody is paying attention, but even that didn’t happen."

"I can't imagine the outcry if we had not produced this report under the Trump administration," Feere said.

Much of the information provided in the agency’s annual report goes beyond deportation statistics. The 2020 report, for example, summarized results from operations related to stopping COVID-19 relief fund abuse. In fiscal year 2020, ICE and its law enforcement partners seized more than $18 million linked to pandemic-related fraud and criminal activity.

An individual familiar with the production of the report in past years, who asked not to be directly quoted, speculated that White House dysfunction may be responsible for the delay. The individual said more left-wing members of the Biden administration, such as Domestic Policy Council deputy director for immigration Esther Olavarria, may have disagreed with more "moderate" staff, such as domestic policy adviser Susan Rice, on a strategy for releasing a report that could be seen as unfavorable to Biden.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

6 Other Times People Broke Into the U.S. Capitol

  1. The War of 1812 Not long after construction ended on the U.S. Capitol’s two wings in 1811, the British Army invaded Washington, D.C. during the War of 1812. British troops partially burned the Capitol on August 24, 1814. Reconstruction took about four years.

  1. A bomb in the Senate On July 2, 1915, before the U.S. entered World War I, German professor Eric Muenter exploded a bomb in the reception room of the U.S. Senate, aiming to stop American support of the Allies. The next morning, Muenter tried to assassinate J.P. Morgan, Jr., son of the financier, whose company served as Great Britain’s principal U.S. purchasing agent for munitions. He committed suicide a few days later. Ironically, Muenter’s terrorism only enflamed America’s war fever against the Germans.

  1. Puerto Rican nationalists On March 1, 1954, four Puerto Rican nationalists shot 30 rounds from semi-automatic pistols from the Ladies’ Gallery, a balcony for visitors, of the House of Representatives chamber in the Capitol. The shooters aimed to advocate for Puerto Rican independence from the U.S. They unfurled a Puerto Rican flag and began shooting at representatives while the House debated an immigration bill. The shooters wounded five representatives, but all of them recovered. They were convicted in federal court and given long sentences, effectively life in prison. In 1978 and 1979, President Jimmy Carter pardoned them, and they returned to Puerto Rico. Analysts claimed Carter pardoned the terrorists in exchange for Fidel Castro’s release of several American CIA agents being held in Cuba, although the federal government denied this.

  1. A leftist bombing On March 1, 1971, the radical left domestic terror group the Weather Underground exploded a bomb on the ground floor of the U.S. Capitol. They exploded the bomb as a demonstration against U.S. involvement in Laos. President Richard Nixon denounced the bombing as a “shocking act of violence that will outrage all Americans.”

  1. Another leftist bombing On November 7, 1983 the leftist terrorist group Armed Resistance Unit took responsibility for detonating a bomb in the lobby outside the office of Senate Minority Leader Robert Byrd. The terrorists claimed they intended to protest the invasion of Grenada. After four and a half years of investigation, federal agents arrested six terrorists and charged them with the bombings of the Capitol, Fort McNair, and the Washington Navy Yard. In December 1990, a federal judge sentenced two of the terrorists to lengthy prison sentences, while the court dropped charges against three co-defendants, who already served prison sentences for related crimes. On the day he left office, President Bill Clinton commuted the sentence of Linda Evans, one of the bombers.

  1. The murder of two police officers On July 24, 1998, Russell Eugene Weston, Jr. burst into the Capitol and opened fire, killing two Capitol Police officers, Jacob Chestnut and John Gibson. Weston’s motives remain unknown and he faced murder charges for the shootings. However, he was committed in a mental institution with paranoid schizophrenia.

Trans Activists Refuse To Publish Unfavorable Data On Trans Youth In Sports Debate

A trio of left-wing organizations refused to publish their full data set on Americans’ opinions on trans youth in sports after admitting that women’s sports advocates “win the debate on trans youth in sports against any and all arguments we have tried,” according to a messaging guide from the organizations.

ASO Communications, a self-defined “progressive” communications firm, published a messaging guide in coordination with the Transgender Law Center and a Democratic research firm, Lake Research Partners. Activists are told to build on the existing “Race Class Narrative” — which dubs anything other than social justice activism as racist — to persuade American voters to favorably view biological men competing in women’s sports.

“This new approach builds on the Race Class Narrative to demand to tell a convincing story of how our opposition uses strategic racism and transphobia to harm us all,” the guide reads.

The guidebook is not available on the Lake Research Partners or Transgender Law Center’s website, though it was archived at a small blog and available on the ASO Communications website.

One portion of the messaging manual admits that transgender activists are losing the debate on trans youth in sports, even among their base, though the trio of organizations has refused to publish the full unfavorable data set.

“Our base and persuadables want to support transgender student athletes, but are extremely susceptible to our opposition’s argument that excluding trans youth is necessary to protect the fairness of women’s sports,” the guide reads.

The Transgender Law Center, ASO Communications, and Lake Research Partners did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.

Of the data that was published, the trio’s research found that the “most effective message” at swaying voters towards supporting trans student-athletes is comparing their struggles to the struggles of black women being asked to wear their hair differently.

FBI To Host First Annual Jan 6 Reunion

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Special agents involved in last year’s ‘January 6th Insurrection Against Democracy™’ are set to reunite as guests of honor at an extravagant gala hosted by the FBI. The event will reportedly feature live music and entertainment, with comedian James Corden acting as master of ceremonies.

Numerous celebrities and public figures are expected to be in attendance, including former FBI Director James Comey. “I’m really excited to be relevant again,” he said, excitedly rubbing his hands together.

According to sources, several private citizens have questioned why taxpayer money is being used to throw a lavish party for government officials. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki addressed these concerns during her daily press briefing.

“Well, first I would say, that President Biden is committed to the Build Back Better™ bill,” Psaki reasoned. “Therefore, he cares for the American people and, as such, cares deeply about how their money is utilized. So, obviously, it’s fine.”

Psaki went on to applaud the FBI for all their hard work that cannot be disclosed.

The event will not be open to the public.

Actually, Democrats Are Less Accepting of Presidential Election Defeats Than Republicans

Democrats are riled up over a poll showing that most Republicans still don’t believe Joe Biden was legitimately elected president.

But in 2017, a similar poll found that two-thirds of Democrats — fed unfounded claims of Russian collusion and “voter suppression” — said Donald Trump was not legitimately elected.

In new poll, 58% of Republicans say Biden was not legitimately elected. GOP undermining democracy! But in Fall 2017, same pollster, 67% of Democrats said Trump was not legitimately elected. What was that? https://t.co/5PyN7PvHa5

— Byron York (@ByronYork) January 4, 2022

As they salivate over tomorrow’s Jan. 6 anniversary, the left conveniently forgets that Jan. 20, 2017, was a very violent and dangerous day with hundreds charged.

Many Democrat politicians also refused to accept the result of the 2016 presidential election. A number of left-wing congressmen objected to the tally of Electoral College votes, including Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, who led the second Trump impeachment trial.

To his credit, then-vice president Biden wasn’t tolerating shenanigans and conspiracies, nor was then-vice president Mike Pence in 2021.

However, five years ago wasn’t the first time in recent memory when Democrats tried to obstruct the certification of a Republican presidential victory.

In 2005, Kamala Harris’s U.S. Senate predecessor, Barbara Boxer, objected to Pres. George W. Bush’s electoral win in Ohio, forcing lawmakers to waste time debating whether to reject the Buckeye State’s electoral votes.

Yet following the objections to certifying the 2020 result, the Washington Post reports that some Democrats refused even to speak with Republican colleagues. They also engaged in other infantile measures to demonstrate their displeasure like voting against any legislation whose main sponsor was a Republican opposed to certifying Biden’s election last year.

Delaware Sen. Chris Coons reportedly went more than six months without saying a single word to Senate Republicans who voted against signing off on Biden’s win. Another phony, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, claims she thinks about Jan. 6 “every time I see or work with” someone who didn’t sign off.

Is it a big deal?

So the parties have hostility and irreconcilable differences about where America should go from here. Given this large ideological and cultural divide, should we expect members of one party to get along with members of the other? Probably not.

My only disagreement, however, is Democrats’ preposterous claim that somehow their party now favors “democracy” and Republicans are its enemy. That’s mythical and vacuous. The two parties differ fundamentally. That’s all. Don’t expect their conceptions of “democracy” to be compatible.

Congressional Progressive Caucus backs legislation that would pack the Supreme Court by adding four more justices

Progressive lawmakers are pushing to pack the U.S. Supreme Court by adding four more justices to the bench.

The membership of the Congressional Progressive Caucus has voted in favor of backing the Judiciary Act of 2021, which would raise the number of justices from nine to 13.

"After thoughtful consideration, the Progressive Caucus membership has determined that the urgent work to restore American democracy must include expanding the Supreme Court,” Congressional Progressive Caucus chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) said in a statement.

"The current bench was filled by a partisan, right-wing effort to entrench a radical, anti-democratic faction and erode human rights that have been won over decades. In recent years, this court has gutted the Voting Rights Act and public sector unions, entrenched unconstitutional abortion bans, and failed to overturn the blatantly discriminatory Muslim Ban. As a co-equal governing body, Congress cannot sit by while this attack on the constitution continues unchecked. I am proud that our Caucus is joining the fight to expand the court and restore balance to the bench," she said.

The quantity of seats on the court has been fixed at nine for more than 150 years.

"The number of Justices on the Supreme Court changed six times before settling at the present total of nine in 1869," according to the Supreme Court's website.

A Morning Consult/Politico poll of registered voters conducted in April 2021 found that the idea of expanding the number of seats on the high court was not very popular. When selecting which came closest to their view, just 26% indicated that they thought Congress should approve a law permitting more than nine justices to serve on the high court, while 46% indicated that the nation's legislature should only allow nine members on the high court.

There’s a Reason Democrats Are Terrified of DeSantis

Derek Hunter Posted: Jan 04, 2022 12:01 AM

There’s a joke in media about any story that involves the phrase “Florida man” because the stories that do are generally insane. Seriously, just do a quick search on it and see what comes up – it’ll be something crazy about a shopping cart, an alligator, meth, fighting a snake, or something else likely to play a role in the next Indiana Jones movie. But when it comes to how liberals talk about the Governor of the state, Trump Derangement Syndrome has a new variant, a deadlier one for which there is no treatment: DeSantis Insanity Disorder.

If you watch CNN or MSNBC you know Governor Ron DeSantis is guilty of the unforgivable sin of being a conservative Republican. It’s one of the few things that leftists will condemn. You can engage in all manner of perversion, deny biology, even engage in political violence (as long as it’s against the “right” people) and you’ll be cheered, but come out against mummifying your child’s head as they go to school and you’re a monster. Support the idea that 9-year-old can choose their gender and should receive irreversible medical treatments based on those declarations and they’ll put your face on a mountain, think adults should be free to make an educated decision about what “vaccines” they put in their bodies and you’re history’s greatest monster.

DeSantis and Florida, and more accurately Florida because of DeSantis, have been under attack since the beginning of the pandemic. Refusing to cave to the fear, the Governor had faith in the people of his state to know how best to take care of themselves. It’s a novel idea, one that would never fly on the left – that you tell the public everything and trust them to make their own decisions.

Leftists never want that; an empowered public is a threat to the progressive agenda. Instead, you get talk of how Florida is a killing field, a wasteland of dead bodies and COVID infected zombies wandering the land as the Governor alternates between parties and dancing on the graves of the dead.

If you watch CNN and MSNBC, both of which have substantial corporate footprints in New York, you’d never know New York has even one case of COVID, let alone that it’s leading the nation and setting records of the number of new cases. It’s all about the state I affectionately call the nation’s uvula.

Why target Florida? Because Ron DeSantis is a threat. He’s Donald Trump without the personal baggage and significantly better political and personnel instincts. They need to destroy him the same way they need to destroy Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem – because compared to ANY Democrat, but especially the senile figurehead in the White House and his wildly unpopular, grating side-kick they’d easily crush any of them.

Every Republican is a threat to the Democrats right now. Joe Biden is less popular than a kick to the head. Kamala Harris is less popular than that. Who else do they have? Nancy Pelosi is older than Joe and less engaging than Kamala. Chuck Schumer is the guy you hope doesn’t sit next to you on a plane.

The Governors of the two biggest Democratic states are unparalleled disasters. California’s Gavin Newsom just faced a recall, and while he won it was largely because there was no popular alternative for voters. Another Democrat likely would’ve replaced him, had there been a viable one. And New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul wasn’t even elected, only assuming office after Andrew Cuomo had to resign in disgrace, and one of her first acts was to cancel elective surgeries.

If Biden and Harris go away, who comes next? There’s no one. So anyone who may consider standing up against them must be torn down. So anything that happens in Florida, for example, has to be hyped, even if it’s happening worse in a liberal state. COVID rates are higher in New York, but Florida is the story. COVID deaths are higher in New York, but Florida is the story. Florida is the story, no matter what.

It’s pathetic when you see an outlet like CNN interviewing an insignificant Mayor in Florida about how he simply doesn’t like Ron DeSantis while their prime-time line-up in New York ignores what’s happening on their doorstep. But that also means they’re scared. It’s tempting to say we’re winning, but never spike the football on the 5-yard-line. But they are definitely scared.

Saudi Superyacht Dispute Pits Credit Suisse Against Gulf Prince

Bloomberg

January 4, 2022

By Ellen Milligan (Bloomberg) —

Credit Suisse Group AG is pursuing a Saudi prince in court, alleging he failed to repay the bank around $78 million in interest and loans he took out to refinance his 82-meter (269-foot) superyacht and mansion property in England.

In a London lawsuit filed in November, the Swiss bank said that two companies defaulted on a pair of loans it provided for refinancing the luxury purchases. Prince Fahad Bin Sultan, governor of Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk province, is the guarantor for the loans and the ultimate beneficiary of the assets, according to Credit Suisse.

The Cayman Islands-registered motor yacht ‘Sarafsa’ is worth about 58 million euros ($65.5 million), according to the court filing. The property estate, situated close to the storied Wentworth Golf Club outside London, was valued at 35 million pounds ($47 million) in 2019.

The suit offers a glimpse into how Saudi royalty sometimes use offshore vehicles to finance their luxury lifestyle but also how even the super-wealthy can run afoul of one of Europe’s biggest banks.

A spokesperson for Credit Suisse declined to comment on the suit. The U.K. law firm representing both the prince and one of the firms declined to comment.

A spokesperson for Prince Fahad bin Sultan didn’t respond to requests for comment. His lawyers are yet to file defense papers in the U.K. case.

Credit Suisse says a British Virgin Islands-based special-purpose vehicle defaulted on a loan facility agreed in 2020 for the yacht by failing to pay interest, fees and costs. The bank also said it failed to provide evidence that the prince held liquid assets of at least $25 million “free of encumbrances,” which was in breach of their agreement. That prompted Credit Suisse to write to the prince in November demanding that he pay the more than 37 million euros it says it’s owed.

It’s a similar story with the estate. The Zurich-based bank accuses another British Virgin Islands-based firm of defaulting on a loan facility it agreed to in 2017 by not repaying part of the loan plus interest. Credit Suisse said it then told the prince to pay the outstanding debt of 26.5 million pounds.

That's where the Embankment and Corinthia Hotel come in, still not certain if the couple seen in the q drop pics and LisaMI6 video was Stzrok & Page or Gina Haspel and somebody else.

Then there's the "black box" that turns out to be at the bus stop right next to the National Iranian Oil company building where it seems some arms deals had previously gone down.

NASA Supported Study Confirms Southern Ocean Is Absorbing Carbon

gCaptain

January 2, 2022

Story by Sofie Bates, NASA’s Earth Science News Team— New observations from research aircraft indicate that the Southern Ocean absorbs more carbon from the atmosphere than it releases, confirming that it is a strong carbon sink and an important buffer for the effects of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions. Previous research and modeling had left researchers uncertain about how much atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) gets absorbed by the chilly waters circling the Antarctic continent.

In a NASA-supported study published in Science in December 2021, scientists used aircraft observations of atmospheric carbon dioxide to “show that the annual net flux of carbon into the ocean south of 45°S is large, with stronger summertime uptake and less wintertime outgassing than other recent observations have indicated.” They found that the waters in the region absorbed roughly 0.53 more petagrams (530 million metric tons) of carbon than they released each year.

“Airborne measurements show a drawdown of carbon dioxide in the lower atmosphere over the Southern Ocean surface in summer, indicating carbon uptake by the ocean,” explained Matthew Long, lead author of the study and a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). Aircraft observations were collected from 2009 to 2018 during three field experiments, including NASA’s Atmospheric Tomography Mission (ATom) in 2016.

The animation and still image on this page show areas where carbon dioxide was absorbed (blue) and emitted (red) by the global ocean in 2012. (Jump to 1:00 to focus on the Southern Hemisphere.) The data come from the ECCO-Darwin Global Ocean Biogeochemistry Model. The research was funded by the National Science Foundation, NASA, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

When human-caused emissions of carbon dioxide enter the atmosphere, some of the gas is absorbed by the ocean, a process that can slightly slow carbon accumulation in the atmosphere and the global temperature increases that go with it. Part of this is due to upwelling of cold water from the deep ocean. Once at the surface, colder, nutrient-rich water absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere—usually with the help of photosynthesizing organisms called phytoplankton—before sinking again.

Computer models suggest that 40 percent of the human-produced CO2 in the ocean worldwide was originally absorbed from the atmosphere into the Southern Ocean, making it one of the most important carbon sinks on our planet. But measuring the flux, or exchange, of CO2 from the air to the sea has been challenging.

Many previous studies of Southern Ocean carbon flux relied heavily on measurements of ocean acidity—which increases when seawater absorbs CO2—taken by floating, drifting instruments. The new research used aircraft to measure changes in the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere over the ocean.

“You can’t fool the atmosphere,” Long said. “While measurements taken from the ocean surface and from land are important, they are too sparse to provide a reliable picture of air-sea carbon flux. The atmosphere, however, can integrate fluxes over large expanses.”

For the new study, researchers used airborne measurements from three field experiments: ATom, HIPPO, and ORCAS. Collectively, the field experiments captured a series of snapshots (or profiles) of the vertical change in carbon dioxide across various altitudes of the atmosphere and various seasons. For example, during the ORCAS campaign in early 2016, scientists saw a drop in CO2 concentrations as the plane descended and also detected high turbulence near the ocean surface, suggesting an exchange of gases. Such profiles, along with several atmospheric models, helped the team better estimate the flux of carbon.
