The Red Legs of Kansas
Although the “Red Legs” are commonly associated with the Jayhawkers of the Bleeding Kansas era and the Civil War, they were actually a separate guerilla unit that only fought during the Civil War.
During the early part of the war, western Missouri was infested with bands of guerrillas, and it was not uncommon for some of these lawless gangs to cross the border and commit depredations in Kansas. To guard against these incursions, and to aid the Union cause, a company of border scouts was formed in late 1862. As it was an independent organization, never regularly mustered into the United States service, no official record of their actions was preserved. The men composing the company became known as “Red Legs,” from the fact that they wore leggings of red or tan-colored leather.

Highway patrol says alert referencing Gotham City, Joker’s car sent in error

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A public emergency alert that included a description matching the Joker's car and referenced Gotham City, Missouri, was sent out accidentally Tuesday, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
The alert went out to cellphones in Missouri a little before 5 p.m. Tuesday.
"GOTHAM CITY MO PURPLE/GREEN 1978 DODGE 3700 GT UKIDME" the alert read, with a link to the patrol's public alerts Twitter page. The patrol tweeted soon after the errant alert went out that it was meant to be an internal test message.
"THERE WAS NO ALERT," the patrol tweeted.
Patrol spokesman Capt. John Hotz said the agency was looking into how the alert was sent to the public.
A follow-up alert was sent saying the previous alert was a test and that the "blue alert" has been canceled. Public safety agencies issue blue alerts when a law enforcement officer has been killed, hurt or is in danger and a suspect is on the run.
