Trumpenfreude is when something bad happens to people who go out of their way to trash Donald John Trump. The comeuppance of some rich folk is sweeter than wine. Today's loser is a multi-billionaire who the New York Times listed in 2008 among those most likely to become the first woman president.
It's Meg Whitman, who successfully ran eBay for 10 years before running for governor of California in 2010. This politically savvy businesswoman spent $144 million of her own money to lose to Jerry Brown by 13 points.
She moved on to Hewlett-Packard, turned its profits into losses, and resigned.
Then she helped launch Quibi, a $1.5 billion business venture.
The Hollywood Reporter reported on Friday, "The shortform entertainment platform, winding down Dec. 1, will leave about 250 employees looking for new jobs: 'It's a shock for a lot of people.'
"On Wednesday afternoon, Jeffrey Katzenberg donned a suit and tie and joined an emotional video conference with the staff of Quibi from his Bel Air home. Together with Quibi CEO Meg Whitman, he confirmed the news that had been swirling for the past few hours: Their 6-month-old mobile video service would be shutting down after struggling to attract an audience for its shortform entertainment programming.
"Many Hollywood observers had been predicting Quibi's demise since the moment Katzenberg first made his plans for the ambitious startup known, but that didn't make the news any less surprising to the employees who had been in the trenches with him for the past two years, many of whom are fiercely loyal to the mogul and devoted to the business they helped to build. 'This is not how they wanted it to go,' says a person who has done business with Quibi. Another knowledgeable source, who calls the shutdown 'a shock for a lot of people,' describes it as a sad moment for the legions of hungry young Hollywood workers who took jobs at Quibi with ambitions to build the next big entertainment company."
Two months before her company collapsed. Whitman announced at the DNC that she would support Biden. In 2016, she endorsed Hillary. The next year, she lost her gig at Hewlett-Packard. Hmm. Whitman claims to be a Republican. Hmm, hmm. Now she has lost a second business. Hmm, hmm, good.
At the DNC in August, she said, "Donald Trump has no clue how to run a business, let alone an economy. Joe Biden, on the other hand, has a plan that will strengthen our economy for working people and small business owners. For me the choice is simple. I'm with Joe."
The Register reported, "It was on Whitmanâs watch [as head of Hewlett-Packard] that the company made one of the worst tech acquisitions of all time, buying software maker Autonomy for $11 billion. It wrote down the value of the purchase by a whopping $8.8 billion a year later."
Even at his nadir in the 1990s, The Donald was down only a billion dollars. And it was his own money, not hapless shareholders.
He bounced back.
Hewlett-Packard did after it jettisoned Whitman.
Quibi won't be back.
The name Trumpenfreude is itself an act of Trumpenfreude as a reader recommended I swipe it from Paul Krugman, the worst economist in the world.
On December 23, 2015, Krugman coined the word, writing, "You know what Iâm talking about, of course â that feeling of glee mixed with fear as one watches the cynical race-baiting of the Republican establishment finally come home to roost, confirming that you were right to be shrill (and the centrists were naive), but with the slight admixture of panic because one of these guys might actually become president."
I would add Whitman to the Official Trumpenfreude List but after 118 names, it became a chore. I'm retired. I will update it right after a nap. (Notice I didn't say which nap in which year.)
For now, just enjoy that multi-billionaire Meg Whitman has Trumpenfreuded twice. The first time losing her job as Hewlett-Packard CEO after endorsing Hillary. And now she has lost her job as Quibi CEO after endorsing Biden.

FCC paid $27 million to fraudulent Hawaiian communications company
The FCC is now fining the company $50 million, and the owner has been sentenced to time in prison.
The Golden Horseshoe is a weekly designation from Just the News intended to highlight egregious examples of wasteful taxpayer spending by the government. The award is named for the horseshoe-shaped toilet seats for military airplanes that cost the Pentagon a whopping $640 each back in the 1980s.
This week, our award is going to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for awarding more than $27 million to the sole shareholder of Sandwich Isles Communications and its parent company Waimama Enterprises, which used the taxpayer dollars fraudulently for a number of years.
For a decade-and-a-half, Albert Hee was awarded millions of dollars annually through the Universal Service Fund to provide the Hawaiian Homelands with a developed communications network and broadband service, something which the area was lacking. The Hawaiian Homelands are large areas held in trust for native Hawaiians by the state of Hawaii.
In early October, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai announced that a nearly $50 million forfeiture of funds would be imposed against the businessman responsible for the fraud, Albert Hee, and his companies.
Over a period of 15-years, Hee diverted tens of millions of taxpayer dollars intended for "the deployment and maintenance of communications networks" in the Hawaiian Homelands to a series of vacations and personal expenses, including: college tuition payments for his children, vehicles, significant salaries for his wife and children, whom he kept on his payrolls, and $90,000 on the salary of a personal masseuse.
"As the Commission determined in 2016, and reaffirmed last year, Sandwich Isles has no claim to a single dime of the $27 million it improperly obtained from the Fund," said the FCC Chairman in a statement. In 2016, Albert Hee was sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison for using taxpayer-funded public money fraudulently.

Rapper Lil Pump Endorses Trump over Biden Tax Plan: âF**k Sleepy Joeâ
Rapper Lil Pump addressed his 17 million Instagram followers on Sunday night and threw down an emphatic and profanity-filled endorsement of President Donald Trumpâs reelection bid, and rebuked Joe Bidenâs proposed tax hike.

Indeed, Joe Biden has promised, most recently on the presidential debate stage last week, that he will âeliminate the Trump tax cuts.â Such a move would result in an enormous hike of most Americansâ taxes.

The Trump tax cuts, officially known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA), were a boon for the middle class in how they practically doubled the standard deduction for singles from $6,350 in 2017 to $12,000 in 2018; nearly doubled the standard deduction for married couples from $12,700 to $24,400, and bumped up the child tax credit up from $1,000 in 2017 to $2,000 in 2018.
If you eliminate the Trump tax cuts, you slash those deductions on working people and families almost in half. Thatâs a huge tax increase because then, for example, a married couple will be paying federal taxes $11,700 in income they werenât paying under the TCJA. So if your federal tax rate is, say, 20 percent, thatâs an annual tax increase of around $2300.
Lil Pumpâs endorsement of President Trump comes in the wake of rapper and actor 50 Cent endorsing the Presidentâs election. For New York City taxpayers earning more than $400,000 like 50 Cent, Bidenâs tax plan would see them paying a combined state and local income tax rate of more than 60 percent. And 50 Cent wants no part of it.

Joe Biden-Donor-Rich Goldman Sachs Admits to Record $1.6B Bribery Scheme
Goldman Sachs, home to many big donors to Democrat presidential candidate Joe Bidenâs campaign, has admitted to a record-setting $1.6 billion foreign bribery scheme this week.
The Justice Department announced charges against Goldman Sachs for their executivesâ involvement in a foreign bribery scheme, the largest in United States history. As a result, Goldman Sachs will pay more than $2.9 billion as part of a settlement.
âGoldman Sachs today accepted responsibility for its role in a conspiracy to bribe high-ranking foreign officials to obtain lucrative underwriting and other business relating to [1Malaysia Development Bhd.],â said acting Assistant Attorney General Brian Rabbitt of the Justice Departmentâs Criminal Division said in a statement.
âTodayâs resolution, which requires Goldman Sachs to admit wrongdoing and pay nearly three billion dollars in penalties, fines, and disgorgement, holds the bank accountable for this criminal scheme and demonstrates the departmentâs continuing commitment to combatting corruption and protecting the U.S. financial system,â Rabbitt said.
The revelations of Goldman Sachsâ involvement in the foreign bribery scheme comes as Biden has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from executives and employees at the big bank.
Kathy Matsui and Richard Friedman, in executive and banker roles at Goldman Sachs, have donated nearly $105,000 to the Biden Victory Fund and the Biden Action Fund in June. Just this week, news broke that the former Goldman Sachs executive who profited off the U.S. housing crash has donated $200,000 to the Biden Victory Fund.
While Biden has taken about 184 separate contributions from Goldman Sachs executives and employees, President Donald Trump has taken just 41 contributions from the big bank. Trumpâs contributions from Goldman Sachs total less than $7,500.
As Breitbart News has noted, recent CNBC analysis revealed that Wall Street has donated more than $50 million to Bidenâs campaign this election cycle. CNN analysis found that âall the big banksâ are backing Biden against Trump.
