Doomed UK Trans Kids Clinic Left ‘Thousands of Damaged Children’ In Its Wake

 

The Tavistock Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS), England’s hub for child gender reassignment which has been ordered to close down, is said to have left “thousands of damaged children” in its wake.

 

Currently subject to an investigation as a result of whistleblowers, parents, and patients accusing it of rushing children, particularly girls, into medical treatment for supposed gender dysphoria, the Tavistock is now set to be shut down by Spring 2023 after the paediatrician leading the investigation announced some of her recommendations early — most notably that GIDS is “not a safe or viable long-term option” for its patients and should be replaced.

 

Reports by outlets such as The Telegraph are now looking back on 18 years of whistleblowing and complaints about the National Health Service (NHS) clinic and the way it resisted all efforts to make it change its ways all the way up to the High Court.

 

Some Tavistock clinicians were even accused of “converting” youngsters who were likely same-sex attracted or bisexual into believing they were actually trans.

 

The notionally right-leaning newspaper recalled how whistleblower Susan Evans had been fobbed off as long ago as 2004 after expressing worry that a 16-year-old boy had been referred for hormones after a mere four appointments. Another concerned clinician, Kirsty Entwistle, was branded “transphobic” for questioning the fact that an autistic girl enjoying Thomas the Tank Engine was used as evidence that she was trans.

 

Evans also highlighted the “tremendous pressure” the Tavistock was put under by trans activist lobby groups such as the controversial Mermaids organisation, which has campaigned for puberty blockers to be given to 12-year-olds and argued dubiously that their effects are “completely reversible”.

 

Indeed, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, the Members of Parliament (MPs) currently vying to succeed the outgoing Boris Johnson as Conservative (Tory) Party leader and, by extension, Prime Minister, have responded to the Tavistock’s looming shutdown by hinting that they might ban the NHS from inflicting hormone therapy on gender-confused children outright, questioning whether it is safe to let them make such “life-altering” decisions at a young age.

 

“We have a responsibility to those under 18 to shield them from irreversible decisions that will affect them for the rest of their lives. As Prime Minister, I would review access to puberty blockers to ensure we are maintaining the right checks and balances in the system to protect our young people,” said Truss, somewhat equivocally.

 

Sunak’s position was a little more forthright, with a spokesman for the former Chancellor of the Exchequer saying that “[c]hildren should not be rushed down irreversible medical pathways, and under-18s should be protected from life-altering treatments.”

On Tuesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration met with its Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) to discuss Moderna’s EUA request for a COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 through 17 years of age.

 

The same expert panel will meet again on Wednesday to discuss shots from Moderna and Pfizer for the kids under 5.

 

According to the CDC data, the incidence of heart inflammation was 4.41 excess per 100,000 who received the Pfizer/BioNTech for males aged 18-39 versus 6.27 excess cases per 100,000 for Moderna, Reuters reported.

 

The overall incidence is relatively rare and the vast majority who suffer the side effect fully recover, but a comparison showed the risk of myocarditis and pericarditis in young males aged 18-39 was 1.1 to 1.5 times higher after the Moderna shot, the FDA said in its presentation, citing data from three U.S. vaccine safety databases.

 

Some countries in Europe have limited use of Moderna’s vaccine for younger age groups after surveillance suggested it was tied to a higher risk of heart inflammation, and the FDA delayed its review of the Moderna shot to assess the myocarditis risk.

 

An FDA official claimed that the findings on myocarditis and pericarditis linked to both the mRNA shots “were not consistent across all of the U.S. vaccine safety monitoring systems.”

 

The FDA called on speakers about their views on authorizing the Moderna vaccine for children ages 6 to 17. Some of the invited speakers were not in favor of the vaccine due to its life-threatening risks that completely ruined their lives.

I took the second Moderna injection in June of 2021. I got busy right away. Two days after the injection, I could not get out of bed for a couple of days. My right leg and my arms were weak.

MILLBANK TOWER Labour HQ after a short (but sharp) decline, the life has left this once proud form.

 

At 382 feet in its stocking feet, the building quite literally stood head and shoulders above its contemporaries. When brought into the world in 1963, it was one of an elite few in the capital to look down upon St Paul's Cathedral.

 

Though not classically handsome, its "international style" attracted the attentions of the 98-year-old Labour Party which, enjoying something of a second wind, had a notoriously roving eye for all things modern.

 

Leaving its Walworth Road home, the party took two floors of Millbank Tower in the run-up to the 1997 general election.

 

It was there that the party's successful election strategy was formulated and put into action. The cool efficiency with which the operation was run won awe and animosity in equal measure (and not just from the defeated Tories).

 

If Millbank Tower became a political castle keep, then Peter Mandelson was its prince. The spin doctor and MP was so at home there, he reputedly had a shower installed in his office.

 

Fittingly this prince had a sword called Excalibur to help him in battle. The computer, kept in Millbank, allowed party apparatchiks to sift through speeches, newspaper clippings and other documents to confound the arguments of any opponent.

 

This "rebuttal machine" was but one weapon in the Millbank technological armoury - fax and pager messages reputedly flowed forth faster than the nearby Thames.

 

A brief resurgence of energies in 2001, soon dissipated when the year's general election ended. At £1m a year, Millbank's relationship with Labour seems too expensive to revive. The party's over.

 

In retrospect, friends will wonder if Millbank's fate was not somehow foreshadowed by the loss of Peter Mandelson, and by the demise of the pager.

 

As a Grade II listed building, Millbank's physical form will be preserved, but with its red blood drained, it will be but a shell of its former self.

The UK is planning for several days over the winter when cold weather may combine with gas shortages, leading to organized blackouts for industry and even households.

 

Under the government’s latest “reasonable worst-case scenario,” Britain could face an electricity capacity shortfall totaling about a sixth of peak demand, even after emergency coal plants have been fired up, according to people familiar with the government’s planning. Under that outlook, below-average temperatures and reduced electricity imports from Norway and France could expose four days in January when the UK may need to trigger emergency measures to conserve gas, they said.

 

The scenario is “not something we expect to happen,” the government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said in a statement. “Households, businesses and industry can be confident they will get the electricity and gas they need.”

 

While the UK doesn’t envisage such shortfalls under its base case, the analysis lays bare the difficult winter potentially in store for Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak when they succeed Boris Johnson as prime minister next month. If they materialize, the power cuts would come even as Britons face up to average annual energy bills possibly rising above £4,200 ($5,086) in January from just under £2,000 currently, stoking already soaring inflation.

If the winter is particularly cold, Britain may have to rely increasingly on pipeline shipments of gas from mainland Europe – where supplies are already thin as Moscow curbs flows. That presents a dilemma for the UK, which has very little domestic storage capacity. The nation has been shipping record amounts of gas to the continent and will want the favor returned when temperatures plunge.

 

The pound hit its weakest in two weeks against the euro following the report. It erased earlier gains against the US dollar to trade around $1.2080.
