3-star General Charles Flynn served as deputy chief of staff (the top position) in the Army’s G-3/5/7 section. They plan and coordinate mobilization of the Reserve component in the continental United States.
“Charles Flynn has faced scrutiny in recent days over the sluggish deployment of National Guard troops to the U.S. Capital as insurrectionists broke into the building on Jan. 6.” [2]
Colonel Earl G. Matthews released a memo that accused Flynn of making willful distortions of the events of January 6, describing Flynn and LTG Walter E. Piatt as "absolute and unmitigated liars" and of giving “perjured testimony before Congress”. [3]

Flynn received a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 1997 and a Master of Science in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the Joint Advanced Warfighting School within the Joint Forces Staff College of National Defense University.
He has command experience from a platoon to a division and served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. As an Infantry Officer, he completed the Ranger, Airborne, and Pathfinder courses.
In recent years, he commanded the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii, after which he became deputy command general of U.S. Army Pacific Command. [4]
