I will offer a perspective. Allow us to consider an arbitrary date. Let's just pretend jan 1. If we were blackhats and knew that we needed the site down on jan 1, would we be on a timeline? I don't see this as an isolated incident.
I see this as a test. Now they know which routes we can still access with. The next time they will close those points and prevent us, in earnest, from communicating until white hats can intervene.
I don't think that intervention will be high on the priority list at that time. I do not know of an alternative platform for comms that would be anon and resilient to the mechanisms.
I am of the opinion that we are witnessing a large, protracted assault on free information internet-wide. From social engineers and paid trolls to some of the best hackers the dark hats can muster.

Was anyone on /b/ before anonymous hit the scene? Similar tactics used then are being used now. They brought Moot before congress. Im sure he was comped in that process.

No, I did not. I'm a little late to the party, as it were. I agree with you entirely. I think there are some things yet to be revealed that will be an important factor to be considered. On this issue, I am mostly in the dark and have only limited experience as a teacher and guide.
We have had 2 very good teachers over the past few years. What have they taught us about double meanings? What about using cover? What about forcing the enemy to expend ammo? How can we use this to our advantage?
I have some ideas. opsec seems to require another dimension.
