California orders 5,000 body bags as COVID deaths surge
SACRAMENTO — The number of Californians dying of COVID-19 has increased so rapidly that the state ordered 5,000 additional body bags to help hospitals cope with the surge, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday.
Newsom said the need to prepare for the possibility of thousands of additional deaths shows the severity of the worst surge of the pandemic. California has averaged 163 deaths a day over the last week, compared with 41 deaths a day a month ago.
“That should be sobering,” Newsom said during a news conference in Sacramento County. “This is not the flu. This is not something to be trifled with. This is a deadly disease.”
The governor said people not following stay-at-home orders for their region must do so immediately to prevent the pandemic’s third wave from overwhelming intensive care units.

In addition to body bags, Newsom said the state has 60 refrigerated storage units on standby at hospitals and county health facilities to deal with an anticipated increase in COVID-19 deaths.
State health officials said the number of deaths is expected to rise over the next few weeks. California has reported an average of 32,523 new COVID-19 cases a day over the past seven days.
Mark Ghaly, secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency, said the full impact of the current surge of cases won’t be felt for two to three weeks, when about 12% of infected people are expected to be hospitalized.
“Two weeks from now, we are concerned about our ability to provide the same level of high-quality care,” he said.
The state’s availability of intensive care unit beds, where the sickest patients are treated, has plummeted in recent weeks. Most people now live in regions where ICU availability is below the critical threshold of 15%.

Pentagon imposed emergency shutdown of computer network handling classified material

The system, known as the Secret Internet Protocol Router Network, handles classified information, up to the secret level.
The Pentagon on Tuesday ordered the emergency shutdown of a classified internal communications network, three Defense Department sources confirmed.
The unprecedented daytime shutdown comes amid recent revelations that other federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, were breached by hackers.
The Defense Department alerted employees that the SIPRNET system was being shut down in the late morning for emergency software updates, the sources told Just the News.
The Pentagon did not immediately return a request for comment, including one on whether the shutdown was related the hacking reported Sunday, allegedly by Russian agents.
The system, known as the Secret Internet Protocol Router Network, handles classified information, up to the secret level, and was shuttered for several hours.
"This has never happened in the middle of a work day," one Pentagon official said. "Updates usually are done on weekends and after hours late at night. This was done on an emergency basis."
The shutdown applied only to computers handling the classified material, and was not imposed on other computers or on phone systems.

RUSH: I’m old enough to remember when hydroxychloroquine was a kook theory from a kook president. Now all of a sudden it is amazing the things that are happening after an election where this kook, this so-called kook, Donald Trump, has lost, allegedly lost. Now all of a sudden the AMA — although very quietly — that hydroxychloroquine is okay. It’s perfectly fine. Go ahead and use it if you want. It can be helpful.
How many people do you think — we’ll never know — how people do you think died needlessly because they were sent home to ride it out or were afraid to go to the doctor or were afraid to take hydroxychloroquine because of what they were hearing about it in the Drive-By Media?
Now, if you doubt the corruption in the numbers of COVID cases, consider that the AMA, the American Medical Association, lied to us about using hydroxychloroquine. Here’s the headline. “AMA Rescinds Previous Statement Against Prescription of Hydroxychloroquine to COVID-19 Patients. The AMA, in a surprising move, has officially rescinded -” for those of you in Rio Linda, that means they’ve taken it back “–a previous statement against the use of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in the treatment of COVID-19 patients, giving physicians the okay to return to utilizing the medication at their discretion.”
Wait a minute. I remember when we were told that this stuff could kill you. Do you remember, in fact, when Trump talked about hydroxychloroquine during… oh, was it when he had it? When he had COVID-19 or was it before? Might have been before. Who was it that was on television that went nuts, saying, “Mr. President, you’re killing people, you’re killing people, you’re asking people to die.” Who was it? It was some prominent cable news person that accused Trump of killing people by suggesting that hydroxychloroquine was okay to use. I can’t remember who it was, but it’ll come to me.
But now it’s perfectly fine. You see, “Previously, the AMA had issued a statement in March that was highly critical of HCQ in regards to its use as a proposed treatment by some physicians in the early stages of COVID-19. In addition to discouraging doctors from ordering the medication in bulk,” they suggested that there was no reason to prescribe it, that it could kill, that it could seriously damage. And now that Trump is gone, they think, now that Trump is fini, oh, guess what? Hydroxychloroquine is perfectly fine to use…..
