…Sanders predicted the Democratic Party will be "wiped out" in the 2022 midterm elections if they squander their opportunity to improve American lives.
"Given all that we face, now is not the time to think small. It is time to think big, very big," Sanders said on Thursday, according to McClatchy reporter Francesca Chambers.
"With Joe Biden as president and Democrats controlling the House and Senate for the first time since 2010, we will be judged on what we deliver for the American people in their time of need. The people want action, not excuses," Sanders explained.
"And let me be very clear. I have zero doubt that unless we significantly improve the lives of the American people this year, Democrats will get wiped out in the 2022 midterm elections," Sanders predicted. The Standard hotel on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood is scheduled to close Friday, 22 years after opening with the financial support of such stars as Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and Benicio del Toro.
The location was the first that hotelier Andre Balazs opened in the Standard chain of boutique hotels. The brand, with its irreverent upside-down logo, cultivated a casual, cool, celebrity-studded ambience. The chain grew to six locations in the Los Angeles area, New York, Miami and London, and it operates under parent company Standard International. Balazs stepped down as the company’s chairman in 2017.
A Standard International representative said Thursday that the holder of the building’s lease exercised its option to raise the lease price in 2019 and that the increase has “rendered it unsustainable to operate the hotel.” She said the hotel tried to renegotiate.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to restrictions on travel and in-person events, the nation’s hotel industry is undergoing its worst crisis in decades.

FBI finds 33 missing children in anti-trafficking operation
Thirty-three children were recovered in an anti-trafficking operation in Southern California dubbed "Operation Lost Angels" the FBI's LA field office announced Friday.
The FBI teamed up with the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and more than two dozen law enforcement and non-governmental partners to launch the recovery initiative on Jan. 11.
The FBI notes that eight of the 33 recovered children were being sexually exploited when found, and that many were considered vulnerable, missing children prior to their recovery.
Two children had been located multiple times throughout the investigation at known sex trafficking hotspots.
One of the located minors had been unlawfully kidnapped by a parent. Some others were arrested for violating probation, robbery or other misdemeanors.
Additionally, a suspected human trafficker was arrested on state charges.
"The FBI considers human trafficking modern day slavery and the minors engaged in commercial sex trafficking are considered victims,” FBI Assistant Director Kristi K. Johnson said in a statement. "While this operation surged resources over a limited period of time with great success, the FBI and our partners investigate child sex trafficking every day of the year and around the clock."

Pfizer Inc said on Friday it had finished enrolling children aged 12 to 15 in a study testing its COVID-19 vaccine, as the U.S. drugmaker seeks to expand the shot’s use.
The study, which was announced in October, had enrolled over 2,000 participants, a Pfizer spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.
Last month, Moderna Inc. also began a study to test its vaccine, which uses a similar technology to the Pfizer vaccine, in adolescents aged 12 to 17.
Vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, which are being rolled out in the United States, are not yet available for use in children due to a lack of study data. The minimum age is 16 for Pfizer’s, 18 for Moderna’s.
