Kushner Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Former Trump-administration official Jared Kushner and his top aide Avi Berkowitz received nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize for their role in securing the Abraham Accords last summer.

Kushner and his team played a lead role in mediating negotiations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates that led to normalization of relations between the two countries. Former U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman and his Israeli counterpart Ron Dermer were also nominated.

Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz nominated the former White House staffers in a letter reported by Reuters on Sunday. Dershowitz’s letter noted the "enormous" role played by the American delegation in achieving normalization between the UAE and Israel.

In his letter, Dershowitz emphasized "the enormous contributions to peace made by Jared Kushner, Avrahm Berkowitz, David Friedman and Ron Dermer."

"These men played especially important roles," Dershowitz said. "[The accords] hold the promise of an even broader peace in the Middle East between Israel, the Palestinians, and other Arab nations. They are a giant step forward in bringing peace and stability to the region, and even to the world."

Gulf states are still feeling the wide-ranging impacts of the new peace brokered by the Trump administration. Israel and the UAE continue to strengthen commercial and diplomatic ties, and Bahrain also normalized ties to Israel following the Abraham Accords. Iran, meanwhile, has lost leverage with Gulf partners since the agreement.

The Biden administration appears prepared to upend some of the diplomatic progress made in Middle Eastern affairs. Last week, President Joe Biden halted the sale of F-35 fighter jets to UAE, a sale previously endorsed by Israel. Biden also appointed Robert Malley as Iran envoy last week. Malley previously worked in the Obama and Clinton administrations and has a history of hostility toward Israeli interests, as well as a record of advocating conciliatory policies toward Iran and its affiliated terror groups.

Congressional War Vets Warn Biden Against Shuttering Gitmo

A group of Republican war veterans in Congress are pressuring the Biden administration to reconsider its plans to shut down the Guantanamo Bay prison and relocate, potentially to the United States, the 40 terrorists currently being held in the facility.

"As veterans of the Global War on Terrorism, we have serious reservations about the Biden administration’s push to close the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp," the nine GOP lawmakers wrote in a letter sent Sunday night to newly installed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

The Biden administration has been under pressure by antiwar activists to shutter the prison camp located at the U.S. naval station in Cuba. Biden has pledged to do just that, but has not explained how he will continue the prosecution of 40 terrorist leaders who still remain imprisoned, including the masterminds of the 9/11 terror attacks. Opponents of the closure warn that nearly 35 percent of the terrorists released from Gitmo have returned to the battlefield, where they continue to mobilize against U.S. and coalition forces in the region.

Representative Michael Waltz (R., Fla.), the first Green Beret to serve in Congress, and a group of eight other war veterans serving in Congress called the Biden administration’s efforts to shutter Gitmo dangerous and raised questions about a plan that they say could put dangerous terrorists back on the battlefield, according to a copy of the letter obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

"Many of us put our lives on the line to prevent these terrorists from ever returning to the battlefield. Some of us even sustained permanent wounds," wrote the lawmakers, which include Waltz and Reps. Jim Banks (R., Ind.), Steve Stivers (R. Ohio), Brad Wenstrup (R., Ohio), Ronny Jackson (R., Texas), Andrew Clyde (R., Ga.), Tony Gonzales (R., Texas), Guy Reschenthaler (R., Pa.), and Van Taylor (R., Texas). "Without law of war detention, we could be forced to release these dangerous individuals, allowing them to re-establish their networks and jeopardize American national security interests, along with the security interests of our allies."

The lawmakers warn the Biden administration against relocating these terrorists stateside, saying there "is no acceptable reason to bring terrorists to the homeland" and risk them being released on legal technicalities by an American court. Most of the terrorists being held at Gitmo were caught on the battlefield and likely could not be prosecuted by a typical court in the United States.

"It would be a mistake to risk acquittal of a known terrorist because of a prosecutorial error, a technicality, or a miscellaneous legal loophole," they wrote.

The Obama administration abandoned its bid to close Gitmo over concerns the terrorists would return to the battlefield and kill Americans. Most of the 40 detainees imprisoned in Gitmo have extensive weapons, explosives, and battlefield training.

Waltz, in an interview with the Free Beacon, said, "those that remain are the most hardened, the most unrepentant, and the most dangerous."

"These are the field generals, these are recruiters, the funders, the trainers, these are the enablers," he said. "This isn’t just one terrorist you’re releasing; this is someone who can create thousands and train thousands and fund thousands."

Simpsons' writer Marc Wilmore dead at 57 from COVID-19

The 10-time Primetime Emmy Award-nominated writer and producer for “The Simpsons” Marc Wilmore has died at 57 after developing complications from the coronavirus.

“My sweet sweet brother, Marc Edward Wilmore, passed away last night while battling COVID and other conditions that have had him in pain for many years,” Wilmore’s older brother and fellow comedian Larry Wilmore tweeted on Sunday. “My brother was the kindest, gentlest, funniest, lion of an angel I’ve ever known. I love you little brother.”

After graduating from Cal Poly Pomona, Wilmore began his career in the ‘90s writing — and then as a cast member — on sketch comedy show “In Living Color.” His writing there earned him his first Emmy nomination. Following “In Living Color,” he became a writer for “The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno,” as well as his brother Larry’s stop-motion sitcom “The PJs.”

Wilmore went on to be a co-executive producer and writer for “The Simpsons,” as well as the animated series “F Is For Family.” His voice also appeared in the occasional character of the shows he worked on, according to IMDb.

Details from the Senator Chase v Virginia Senate lawsuit

https://www.progress-index.com/story/news/2021/02/01/va-state-senator-files-federal-suit-against-senate-remove-censure/4337947001/

RICHMOND — State Sen. Amanda F. Chase is suing her colleagues in the Virginia Senate, saying last week's vote to censure her and strip her of her seniority amounts to a violation of her constitutional right to free speech and due process.

The suit, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Richmond, names Senate clerk Susan Clarke as a defendant and asks that she not allow the publication of the reprimand in the chamber's public journal pending the outcome of the case. Virginia Beach attorney Tim Anderson, who is seeking election to one of the city's House of Delegates seats this year, filed the suit on Chase's behalf.

The suit claims that the 24-9 vote on Jan. 27 violated Chase's rights under the First and 14th Amendments to the Constitution that guarantee the right to free speech and equal access to due process, respectively. It says the allegations made in the censure resolution were not properly vetted by the Senate Privileges & Elections Committee before anything was filed.

The move was not completely unexpected, as Chase had said several times prior to the vote that she would sue if the Senate supported the censure.

Chase, R-Chesterfield County, reiterated those claims in a statement Monday to The Progress-Index. She said the censure was brought by "the political elite class of the Senate" who disagree with her political persuasions. Chase, an ardent supporter of former President Donald Trump, is running for the Republican nomination for governor this year, and claimed the reprimand was a political hit job on her campaign.

"The First Amendment of the Constitution applies to everyone, and you do not lose it when you become an elected official,: Chase said. "The majority of the Senate of Virginia believe that collectively they can silence the First Amendment as long as they do it with a group vote."

The censure resolution, sponsored by Democratic Sen. John Bell of Loudoun County, was supported by all 21 Democrats in the Senate, plus three Republicans. One of them is Senate Minority Leader Thomas K. Norment Jr. of James City County, with whom Chase has publicly feuded in recent years over direction of the Senate leadership. Six Republicans opted not to vote for or against the resolution.

At one point during the two-hour debate on the Senate floor, Lt. Gov. Justin E. Fairfax — a Democrat who is the Senate's presiding officer — ruled that the resolution had not been properly put forth in the chamber because there was no evidence the charges in it were ever investigated by Senate P&E, which is standard protocol. Senators immediately voted to overturn Fairfax's decision.

"The Virginia Senate knowingly and intentionally violated its own rules overruling its own President and proceeding with a censure that was both unconstitutional on its face and in blatant violation of its own rules," Chase said Monday.

Messages left with Schaar's office and the Virginia attorney general seeking comment have not yet been answered.

In a post on his law firm's Facebook page, Anderson said he would not comment on the case while it proceeds through the system. He did, though, share thoughts on the central issue of the case.

"The comments made by Senator Chase were entirely protected by the First Amendment and censure of the Senator was nothing more than an attempt to silence her free political speech and expression," Anderson wrote. "As Americans we do not have to agree with what someone says but we must agree to defend each American's right to freely exercise their First Amendment Rights. Any attempts to silence legitimate political free speech will be met with maximum lawful resistance by this office on behalf of any client of this firm."

The original resolution charged Chase with "formenting" the Constitution by taking part in a Jan. 6 Stop The Steal Rally in Washington, an event staged by pro-Trump supporters. The rally, which included a speech by Trump decrying his Nov. 3 loss to Democrat Joe Biden as ripe with still-unsubstantiated voting fraud, devolved into a riot by some rally attendees inside the U.S. Capitol trying to stop certification of the Electoral College vote. Six people died in the violence.

Chase spoke during the morning hours of the rally, but was not part of the Capitol rush. Later, she denounced the violence, but defended the rally as a group of "patriots" who were tired of Democrats trying to ram socialist policies through government.

A Key Player in Malaysia's Biggest-Ever Corruption Scandal Found Sanctuary in Cyprus With Help From a Major London Firm

Despite public denials, well-known citizenship broker Henley & Partners helped disgraced financier Jho Low, who stands accused of stealing billions from Malaysian sovereign wealth fund 1MDB, obtain a passport from Cyprus.

Key Findings

Henley & Partners identified Jho Low as a high-risk client with political exposure, but worked with him anyway, using a Cypriot company as an intermediary.

Henley made 60,000 euros from a citizenship fee paid via this company, and far more — 650,000 euros — from helping arrange a real estate deal for Low to purchase a luxury seaside villa.

Shell companies and nominee service providers helped obscure Low’s real estate deal.

Several Low associates also applied for Cypriot citizenship around the same time, and publicly available documents suggest that they bought villas near his.

Jho Taek Low had billions of dollars, but he was running out of places to put them.

By 2015, the Malaysian financier had become the face of the now-infamous 1MDB embezzlement scandal. His theft of billions from Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund had been widely reported. So had the trail of splashy purchases he made around the world: a transparent grand piano for supermodel Miranda Kerr, a New York City penthouse once owned by Jay-Z, a $6-million emerald green soup can painted by Andy Warhol, an entire hotel in Beverly Hills.

Banks were increasingly wary of him. So were governments. He was under investigation by law enforcement in Singapore and Switzerland. U.S. authorities were closing in, too. He needed a safe refuge for both himself and his money.

Jho Low in 2014.

To solve these problems, Low turned to the sunny eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus, where, with a view to establishing a new financial foothold, he purchased citizenship in 2015 under the country’s controversial “golden passport” scheme.

Technically known as Citizenship By Investment, the program was meant to attract wealthy foreigners seeking European Union passports. But in the eyes of critics, its main effect was to make Cyprus a go-to destination for kleptocrats and criminals who want to pay their way into the bloc. It also proved lucrative for a small army of lawyers and financial service providers who greased the wheels.

The program was ditched last October after a damning investigation by Al Jazeera exposed local politicians offering to help a fictitious Chinese criminal get citizenship. The circumstances under which Low received his golden passport are under scrutiny by Cypriot authorities.

Now, an investigation by OCCRP and the Sarawak Report can reveal previously undisclosed details about how Low obtained Cypriot citizenship — and who helped him do it.

Though his connection to one of the world’s biggest thefts of public funds had already been widely exposed, he was able to hire London-based Henley & Partners, perhaps the world’s best-known passport brokerage firm, to provide him with citizenship services.

Private/Unlisted YouTube Videos of U.S. Government Agencies

Background

Many U.S. government agencies and military branches have public YouTube pages. That is no secret. However, within these channels, lies a hidden treasure trove of PRIVATE/UNLISTED videos NOT accessible by the general public.

Through the Freedom of Information Act, The Black Vault along with another researcher has tackled trying to get access to these videos listings. That researcher has donated the requests they did, along with the documents, to the archive below. However, they asked for their identifying information to be redacted.

The below lists can then be used to request the videos themselves.

There are numerous more open FOIA requests for these pages, which will be added below. Visit often, as there are many more to be added soon.

Get this: The D.C. govt is required by law to deliver HARD COPIES of legislation BY HAND to the U.S. Capitol for review. But because of the new fencing around the Capitol, D.C. officials can't get in. That means these laws are basically stuck in legal limbo.

Council on Foreign Relations calls for formation of state-owned media to quell subversive internet chatter

The United States Needs a BBC

The Beeb’s influence is rising stateside, revealing a hunger for nonpartisan news. America’s own networks should take note.

In July 2020, the BBC released some remarkable numbers: In the previous 12 months, 438 million people had tuned into BBC News, 351 million to the BBC World Service, and 137 million to BBC Global News. All three channels, as well as the BBC’s entertainment channel, had registered double-digit growth. The figures were especially surprising given that, unlike certain U.S. news outlets and online media platforms, “the Beeb” doesn’t rely on polarization as a business model.

The United States, still dealing with the aftermath of years of slanted information, should take note. What the country needs, it may be, is public-service news.

When the BBC—the United Kingdom’s own public-service news organization, which is legally obligated to neutrality—presented the summer 2020 figures, then BBC Director-General Tony Hall explained: “We are without question one of Britain’s strongest and best-known brands, synonymous with quality and accuracy worldwide.” Indeed, that is what its viewers are hungriest for.

One might assume that American viewers are just different. Perhaps they like drama, hyperbole, and confirmation more? Not so. According to a 2020 report by the University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, that isn’t necessarily true. Rather, 60 percent of Americans want neutral news. What’s more, 56 percent of Americans find the BBC trustworthy, which makes the BBC the most trusted non-local news organization in America. Americans are also now BBC News’s second-largest international audience, at nearly 50 million. Outside the United Kingdom, only India has more BBC viewers and listeners than the United States.

Polarizers get the headlines, but Americans aren’t so different from many other countries when it comes to wanting facts-based news.

Indeed, while polarizers get the headlines, Americans aren’t so different from many other countries when it comes to wanting facts-based news, the Oxford researchers found. When asked whether they preferred news that shared their point of view, challenged their point of view, or had no point of view, 80 percent of Germans said they prefer neutral news sources, as did 78 percent of Japanese, and 76 percent of Britons. In Denmark, 68 percent preferred neutral news; in Italy, 65 percent; in France, 58 percent; and in Spain, 55 percent.

But even though a majority of Americans want neutral news, they are not getting enough of it. In a recent op-ed, Senator Ben Sasse, a moderate Republican, bewailed this state of affairs, which he labelled America’s junk-food media diet. “The way Americans are consuming and producing news—or what passes for it these days—is driving us mad,” he wrote. “This is not a problem only on the right or only on obscure blogs. The underlying economics that drive Fox News and upstarts such as One America News to cultivate and serve ideologically distinct audiences also drive MSNBC, CNN, and the New York Times. More and more fiercely, media outlets rally their audience behind the latest cause du jour, whether it’s battling supposed election fraud or abolishing local police departments.”

L3Harris Wins Contract to Support Missile-Tracking Space Sensors

By Rachel Jewett | February 1, 2021

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency has awarded L3Harris Technologies a $121 million contract to build space flight hardware to demonstrate the company’s solution for the Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) program. The HBTSS is one of several proposed missions within the U.S. Department of Defense’s next-generation proliferated Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) space architecture. L3Harris said in a Monday release that this award follows on a 2019 study contract.

The Illinois legislature of Representatives passed a bill spearheaded by the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus last Wednesday that would end cash bail.

The Pretrial Fairness Act, which gives Illinois until Jan. 1, 2023 to abolish cash bail, currently awaits Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s signature. Pritzker has expressed support for the bill in the past. If passed, Illinois will be the first state in the nation to end all cash bail.

Evanston mayoral candidate Sebastian Nalls, 20, said ending cash bail is a step in the right direction.

“This is an issue that hits directly at home for a lot of us,” Nalls said. “And it’s been disproportionately affecting Black and brown members of Illinois and members of the nation as a whole.”

The Illinois State’s Attorneys Association put out a statement saying the bill has provisions that are “deeply problematic and will only result in further significant increases in violent crime, undermine public safety, and deny justice to crime victims.”

George Soros teams up with Irish tycoon 'Denis O'Brien' for Myanmar's telecoms services news

April 5, 2013

New Delhi, Apr 5 – With the market in Burma opening up to foreign investment, Irish businessman DenisO'Brien has come out with details of his intention to seek a mobile phone licence.

Joining forces with billionaire GeorgeSoros the telecommunications tycoon is keen to secure a telecoms licence in Myanmar, which was opening up to outside investment with its recent move towards democracy after decades of often brutal military rule.

The Burmese government had been inviting potential operators to set up and run two new telecomsservices.

A consortium including O'Brien's Digicel group in association with GeorgeSoros' Quantum Strategic Partners and Burma's Yoma Strategic Holdings, led by local businessman Serge Pun has just submitted its pre-qualification application to the Burmese government.

O'Brien, who is chairman of Digicel and also a major shareholder in Independent News & Media, said Digicel had been successful in entering recently liberalised markets and driving tele-density in underserved countries across the globe.

He added, with the current mobile penetration below 10 per cent in Myanmar, the consortium was committed to rolling out a world-class telecommunications network.

Digicel with operations across the Caribbean and Pacific region, had become a major telecoms player in just over a decade and had also made a fortune for O'Brien, who was recently ranked by Forbes magazine as one of the world's richest people.

Jamaica-based Digicel has built up a leading presence in 30 developing economies in the past 12 years. Pun is recognised as being one of the country's most prominent entrepreneurs.

Myanmar currently has an economy growing at a rate of over 5 per cent per year, though mobile phone penetration was below 10 per cent.

As the tender process for the two licences was at a very early stage, final timelines and potential bid details were unknown.

The Digicel-led consortium's submission this week ranked as a 'pre-qualification application' and it was thought both licences would attract much interest.

Meanwhile, Vodafone too announced that it had teamed up with China Mobile - currently ranked as the world's largest mobile network operator, with the largest subscriber base of over 720 million users - to launch a preliminary application for a licence, saying Burma would be an important market for the global mobile industry.

According to Soros, the liberalisation of the telecommunications market in Burma would serve as an important economic stimulus for the country; while Serge Pun said the heads of consortium shared a common objective to offer affordable, first-class communications to the people of Myanmar.

He added the consortium was uniquely positioned to deliver this vision.

#BidenLied Trends on Twitter as Angry Libs Realize They Aren't Getting What They Wanted

In December and January, as he barnstormed around Georgia for Senate runoff candidates Jon Ossoff and the Rev. Raphael Warnock, then-President-elect Joe Biden made a promise: Elect these two and you get $2,000 stimulus checks.

The day before the election, he made it abundantly clear: “By electing Jon and the reverend, you can make an immediate difference in your own lives, the lives of the people all across this country,” he said at a rally.

“Because their election will put an end to the block in Washington on that $2000 stimulus check, that money would go out the door immediately, to help people who are in real trouble.

“Think about what it will mean to your lives. Putting food on the table, paying rent, paying part of your mortgage, paying down the credit card, paying the phone bill, the gas bill, the electric bill.”

https://youtu.be/KbDJJ782MfY

Now that he’s in the White House, Biden’s COVID-19 relief package includes $1,400 relief checks, not $2,000. The Democrats’ line is that $600 + $1,400 = $2,000. What part of that don’t you understand?

The part one doesn’t understand is that, well before Biden was saying this, then-President Donald Trump had signed off on the $600 checks and they’d already started going out on Dec. 29, according to Forbes.

Biden himself — or whoever runs his Twitter account — seemed to acknowledge the distinction between the $600 checks that were going out the door and the $2,000 checks that he was promising.

Lin Wood, [01.02.21 16:02]

Good afternoon. Busy morning pouring water on the false fires. Your words of support, love, and faith help inspire me to be a formidable firefighter. I find my strength in the Lord.

BREAKING NEWS! I havechanged my legal residence from the State of Georgia to the State of South Carolina!

I have lived in Georgia since I was 3 years old (65 years). I still love the Peach State but Georgia has deteriorated over the years to become one of the most corrupt states in the country, if not the most corrupt.

Every state has problems. Like individuals, states are imperfect. But Georgia has spun out of control and is heavily influenced by the CCP through corrupt state officials.

I love the land in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and the people here are simply wonderful. South Carolina has welcomed me. Georgia has falsely accused me and shunned me.

I am thrilled about my change of residency.

I started my life in North Carolina in 1952 and plan to live in South Carolina until the Lord calls me back north to my eternal home in Heaven.

Sometimes in context, going from the North to the South is a really good thing.

Now I can vote against Lindsey Graham!

God bless each of you. - Lin 🙏❤️🇺🇸

“The Senate is Utterly Without Jurisdiction to Try Donald Trump” – Former Independent Counsel Ken Starr Explains Why Democrats Can’t Try Trump

No where in the Constitution or any other documents written by our framers does it mention anything about impeaching and convicting a former president.

Former US Solicitor General and Independent Counsel Ken Starr said the senate is without jurisdiction to try private citizen Donald Trump.

The House of Representatives impeached President Trump with a 232-197 vote on January 13 for ‘inciting an insurrection’ at the Capitol.

Speaker Pelosi held onto the articles of impeachment and didn’t deliver articles to the senate until after Trump left office.

Chief Justice Roberts isn’t even presiding over the senate trial – Senate Pro Temp Leahy (D-VT) is instead, which is another violation of the law.

Furthermore, 45 senators have already voted that it is unconstitutional so the trial in DOA.

Judge Starr outlined in detail why “the Senate is utterly without jurisdiction to try Donald Trump” during an appearance with “Life, Liberty & Levin” Sunday evening.
