Maxine Waters explains how her encouragement to constituents to confront Republican officials was for peaceful discussions while Trump’s Jan. 6th speech was a directive to his followers to fight.

Just another day of upside down world. I went through speeches and here is the analysis.
Just to remind everyone, Maxine told people to approach GOP in public places (“we need to make sure we show up wherever we need to”) and when you see GOP members at gas stations, restaurants, stores, etc… “get out of your car and create a crowd” and “push back on them” and tell them “you’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.” So Maxine was encouraging hostility (at least verbally) toward identified people. She also provided instructions on how to do this. Contrast Trump’s speech where he said:
Joe Biden is illegitimate pres…and we can’t let that happen
-
Radical Dems are ruthless and it’s time someone did something about it
-
the election fraud was a criminal enterprise
-
the GOP has got to het tough
-
they want to rip off our country and we can’t let that happen
-
so we will walk down to the capital and try to give Republicans the pride and boldness they need to take back our country.
Trump’s speech was 99% puffery. The 1% that called people to actio was EXPRESSLY confined to marching to the capital, peacefully making voices and opinions heard, and giving courage to the GOP to fight against the theft. The word “fight” is not sufficient evidence of incitement, otherwise HS football coaches would be sued every fall for any on-field brawl simply because they encouraged their team to “fight” during a halftime pep talk. Moral of the story: If Maxine isn’t liable for incitement in laying out an actual confrontation strategy of generating a crowd and getting in people’s faces, then Trump certainly isn’t.
