Girl who sparked online hate campaign ending in French teacher’s beheading 'never attended class’

A schoolgirl who triggered an online hate campaign that ended in the grisly beheading of a French teacher has admitted to lying and spreading false claims about him, her lawyer said on Monday.

The unnamed girl had claimed the teacher, Samuel Paty, who was beheaded by an Islamic extremist in the street in October last year, had asked Muslims to leave the class when he showed cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed during a debate on free speech and blasphemy.

The cartoons had previously been published in the Charlie Hebdo magazine.

The girl's father later filed a legal complaint and posted his allegations online. That prompted a social media hate campaign that ended an 18-year-old Chechen refugee tracking down Mr Paty in the town of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, northwest of Paris.

On Monday, a lawyer for the girl, who had a history of disciplinary problems, confirmed she in fact never attended the class and was away on sick leave at the time.

https://sputniknews.com/us/202103081082287722-dozen-states-sue-biden-over-attempting-to-calculate-social-cost-of-greenhouse-gases/

In an executive order on climate policy, US President Joe Biden directed the establishment of the "social cost" of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide emissions, saying that it will help agencies determine the "social benefits" of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The attorneys general 12 US states on Monday filed a lawsuit against the administration of Joe Biden after his January executive order that particularly envisaged establishing the "social cost" of greenhouse gases.

Included in the states suing the Biden administration are Missouri, Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah. The legal action is led by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt.

"Setting the ‘social cost’ of greenhouse gases is an inherently speculative, policy-laden, and indeterminate task, which involves attempting to predict such unknowable contingencies as future human migrations, international conflicts, and global catastrophes for hundreds of years into the future", the lawsuits notes. "Assigning such values is a quintessentially legislative action that falls within Congress’s exclusive authority."

According to the lawsuit, the legislation will have "enormous consequences" for the US economy and people.

Harris Reportedly Taking Bigger Role in Forming Biden's Foreign, National Security Policies

While the role of the US vice president is traditionally seen as integral, the responsibilities given to the post often vary depending on the leadership installed in the White House, as was the case with former Vice Presidents Dick Cheney and Joe Biden during past administrations. Both officials took on projects that kept them in-the-know.

Having taken on the vice presidential baton for the Biden administration, US Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly taking on a much more active role when it comes to matters of national security and the White House’s foreign policy strategies.

Earlier, it was reported by The Wall Street Journal that US President Joe Biden had halted a second strike on Syria, opting to go with just a single strike as a response to Iran’s earlier actions in the region. However, it was also noted that in the weeks leading up to the operation, Harris played a pivotal role in talks regarding the administration’s first military strikes.

The Journal’s report outlined several meetings that saw Harris discussing matters with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley, among other top administration officials.

A senior White House official told The Washington Post for a Monday article that Harris “really pressed on the question of how to try to achieve some measures of deterrence while managing escalation” during talks with both Austin and Milley.

https://sputniknews.com/military/202103081082287934-pentagon-promises-arrw-hypersonic-missile-will-make-first-flight-within-30-days/

As the US struggles to bring its first hypersonic missile online, Russia is preparing to test what may be its fourth such weapon, and China already has its own hypersonic missiles ready for deployment.

The US Air Force will fire the AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW), the US military’s first hypersonic missile, in less than one month’s time, according to a Friday press release.

Brig. Gen. Heath Collins, Air Force Program Executive Officer for Weapons, said in the release that a booster test flight (BTF) of Lockheed Martin’s ARRW will happen “in the next 30 days, followed by several additional booster and all-up-round test flights by the end of the year.” Testing will happen at California’s Naval Air Station Point Mugu, a major missile development and test facility.

The booster test vehicle is the rocket engine part of the hypersonic weapon, which accelerates the ARRW glide vehicle to speeds in excess of Mach 5 before dispatching the glide vehicle to fly toward its target. However, according to the release, the upcoming test is only of the rocket engine, not the glide vehicle
