Illinois Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky slurred late North Carolina Sen. Jesse Helms as a "racist" in remarks Tuesday to promote new legislation she is sponsoring that would repeal the longstanding Helms Amendment, which prohibits U.S. foreign aid from funding abortion.
"The real issue is that abortion is health care, and the Helms Amendment has now got to go," Schakowsky said during an event hosted by the organization IPAS.
Schakowsky said low-income women of color around the world are being denied financial help from the U.S. government for safe abortions due to the Helms Amendment.

Also in the DoS reading room is information that her outdoor adventuring/expert snorkling son-in-law somehow drowned in Mexico while…snorkeling. Huh. Son in law was a film maker: "Shadow Puppets of Doom" which is a comedic horror film according to IMDB.

Keep tugging the thread on this one. Turns out her Husband is … Robert Creamer, a political consultant with Democracy Partners that does work for both the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
Creamer is featured prominently in videos released this week by right-wing provocateur James O’Keefe, which appear to depict a network of activists colluding with the Clinton campaign and the DNC to incite violence at the rallies of Clinton’s Republican opponent Donald Trump.
In the surreptitiously recorded videos, various operatives brag about how they plant people in the lines at rallies to “bird-dog” Trump supporters; i.e. to antagonize them to the point of aggression in full view of television cameras in order to demonstrate the narrative that Trump’s base in inherently racist and violent. These plants sometimes include the homeless and mentally ill.

His 2005 conviction for bank fraud related to a check-kiting scheme sent him to jail for 5 months, but that didn't keep him out of the West Wing.
Schakowsky has not spoken publicly about her husband's involvement in what appear to be a scheme to commit election fraud and a conspiracy to incite assault and battery.
Creamer said only that he had 'indicated to the Democratic National Committee that I am stepping back from my responsibilities working with the [Clinton] campaign.'
