X is good for breaking news. I feel that's always been the core function of that place. A place to go to screenshot somebody saying something happened and maybe grab the video or images.
Non-paid accounts are basically shadowbanned. In fact you can often get replies to something which won't show up even if you click on the 'show hidden posts' button and then click AGAIN on the 'show potentially offensive posts' button. Either it's mods doing annotations on your account, which remain hidden for whatever reason or… there are a good 20-30% of accounts whose posts won't show up at all under any circumstances except as a count in some database's black hole.
