As much as it pains me, I would rather have a culling of the boards, and try and consolidate topics.
Its hard because there is so much great history here, but for it to become alive again, it needs pruning. People come here, see 700+ dead boards, and then leave. It would be better to get 10-20 designated boards, get rid of the rest, and restart the process.
I know. i am very conflicted. All the things of value here came when the site was empty and everything was created from scratch. And there is huge value here. Incredible information. But, it seems like the place is now burden by its past. There is too much inert mass.
Well, another option, which is what i believe you are putting forward, is to put our posting energy into the /pol/ board, have it well maintained, and go from there. And just let the other boards remain.
I didn't realize that. Well, if the good infinity content (which was truly excellent) is gone, and all that remains is the globohomo trash, get rid of it. I like you process of gently pruning while giving anons a chance to save what they want, but it should be understood that harmful or valueless posts/threads will be removed.
I was just reading through the FAQ page and it says that any more that does not have a new post in 4 weeks will be deleted. What happened?
