couldn't all those old threads just be split off to a new separate board - call it /polarchive/ or whatever? i agree that its kind of shame to just delete it all.

seems to be the idea to delete stuff which is causing disagreement. maybe forget about that and just watch over the likely surge in spam over the next week. if 4chins comes back up it'll probably calm right back down again here.
you keep saying you've got 1 week. why angle for such extensive changes when the issue is the expected increase in spam? just take care of the spam if the idea of making more significant changes is causing other anons to question your motives?

using that and sorting by creation date means you dont even have to notice the old stuff at all. would be easy to just check the recent threads and prune the bbc etc.
