Key Lime Pie is something they think is a good idea, or the best, or something like "black gold" (oil). They are saying it is now "key lime pie" instead of how in the 1980s when it was "a bad idea". This doesn't really say what it is/what the in joke is specifically but it's their crack, apparently.
