To be clear about myself, this is frb, i have been BO of this board since it was abandoned by previous BO last March. Senate Republicans vote unanimously to block the Freedom To Vote Act
In a 49-51 vote, Republicans blocked the Senate from moving forward on the Democrats' voting rights bill, the Freedom to Vote Act. The vote was announced by Vice President Kamala Harris. In the 50-50 Senate, Democrats needed at least 10 Republicans to join them to end a GOP-led filibuster and ultimately pass the legislation. This marks the third time this year that Republicans have been able to thwart voting rights legislation, according to the New York Times. The legislation was negotiated by a group of Senate Democrats, including Senator Joe Manchin, and includes measures such as requiring at least 15 consecutive days of early voting in every state, mandated same-day registration at all polling sites by 2024 and permanent mail-in voting.
