you can pretty much guarantee why Hillary and friends were always so insistent on telling everyone about Wikileaks and the Russians is because Assange is a source for something in the dossier.

they were going to use the credibility they had built up between Assange and the public to put the teeth into their dossier-attack, since they didn't actually have any actual substance, since the dossier was fake (well, technically based on real events with the people switched)
so, if the failed wikileaks-russia-trump talking point was going to be used in conjunction with the dossier.
this turns the dossier from random retarded debunkable bullshit into a carfully selected hit list,
for example:
-trump and the entire MAGA movement, all followers obviously, would be seen as guilty of treason/hiring hookers to piss on a bed etc etc
-paul manafort - a planned backstab/throwing under the bus. decades in DC, but a liability, taking money from anyone (To a degree that shocks even DC I guess).
