I was thinking the power shed was probably designed with the installation of more gensets in mind. Thus all the access portals, they'd just roll another one in when they wanted to upgrade and drop it into place rather than have to build a new structure.

As far as cooling them goes, my thought was they maybe just run seawater through a secondary loop. That might explain the algae bloom in the lagoon.

The one on the left looks like normal geology to me. Eventually a wave will hit that fissure just right and that boulder will fall into the water and take a good chunk of road with it.

The other might just be concealing pumping equipment for that cesspit/lagoon.

Wet well is probably how they cool the generators, they just run the hot water through a loop that's immersed in seawater to cool it off.

This is the cesspit lagoon, I think. That white crusty shit looks a lot like the scum that floats to the top in a septic tank.

Pretty sure they did here, at least to certain parts of the island. This water level shot shows evidence of a fairly extensive installation. I'm thinking they may have went so far as installed an ammonia based AC system.

Ehhh.. it might be stank, but out on islands prevailing winds always go in a certain direction, so depending on what they are, the smell could simply be blown out to sea.

Nah, I just like dark humor and don't pass up an opportunity to shitpost.

>>1723

Yes, I had the thought that was there as an aggregate pile. Certainly as a stockpile to maintain the gravel roads, at least. There's a lot of heavy equipment on that island.

>>1727

An incinerator is not a cost effective solution unless you have an immense amount of garbage so you can extract the energy through steam and make electricity. I would think it would be more effective to compost anything organic and simply barge anything that's not off the island.

The way the pipes are insulated my money is on an industrial cooling system that's either ammonia or brine based. That's the only thing that would justify having those massive generators. There just isn't enough shit on the surface of the island to justify 100 kw of power.

This is why I'm thinking it's ammonia based cooling plant. Those heavily insulated pipes are exactly what the cold ammonia supply looks like in large warehouses.

Yeah it is, but we've already determined theres at least some kind of underground shit there, and also note that diesel powerplant is rocking at least two gensets. It could also be brine based cooling, which would admittedly make more sense given they're on an island access to salt water is not hard. I dunno, lot of speculation on my part, but if there's underground shit there, a powerful cooling system is exactly what you'd need to control the temperature and humidity in that environment.

That would also account for the large powerhouse. Looking at rough pipe diameters, they might be running at least two of these, or similar in that building.

That's a 200 KW genset.

An engine-generator or portable generator is the combination of an electrical generator and an engine mounted together to form a single piece of equipment. This combination is also called an engine-generator set or a gen-set.

I get two based on the front of the powerhouse. It also looks like it's got room for several more. That truck has placards on the side, so my assumption is that it's delivering diesel to feed the beasts.

Previous speculation on the cooling with the downward pipes is they're running the hot water through a loop in a wet well that's open to the sea. Wave action would ensure relatively cool water would always be circulating through.

The third gauge is the frequency of the AC in hz

The frequency is very important to a lot of electric motors as well. If you get too far off the design frequency you could end up blowing the windings.

Honestly, I think it's an algae bloom from the warm effluent being discharged there. (generator/hvac system cooling) Ammonia based cooling systems are sealed and don't interact with the outside world except to transfer heat, but they do make a lot of it. Typically you'd have giant exhaust fans and cooling towers to deal with it, but if you have seawater nearby you could just circulate the cooler ocean water through, of which there is an infinite supply.

Only if there's a leak. When there is, it's in a gaseous state anyway and simply blows away with the wind. Most of it's converted to various harmless compounds, but if you're in an enclosed space with the leak it can and will fuck you up. Larger systems have isolation valved every x amount of feet for this reason. You find the leaking part of the loop and turn it off and the rest of the system keeps operating. Fix the leak, hook a vacuum pump up to get the air out and open the valves slowly to repressurize and you're good to go.
