Venture Global Announces $10 Billion LNG Export Facility In Louisiana

December 10, 2021 By Waterways Journal

Venture Global LNG and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards announced December 2 that the company will invest more than $10 billion to develop a fourth LNG export facility in the state of Louisiana. The new project, CP2 LNG, will be located in Cameron Parish, adjacent to Venture Global’s first facility, Calcasieu Pass. The company has said it expects to begin construction in the second quarter of 2023 for the first phase of the project and to start shipping cargoes of LNG in 2025.

Venture Global has submitted a formal application requesting authorization from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to site, construct and operate the CP2 LNG facility and the CP express pipeline. CP2 LNG will build, own and operate a liquefied natural gas terminal with a nameplate liquefaction capacity of 20 million metric tons per year of LNG. The CP Express pipeline will provide natural gas to the CP2 LNG facility.

This announcement brings Venture Global’s total planned capital investment in Louisiana to more than $20 billion. CP2 will result in thousands of good paying jobs and an estimated $2 billion in new local revenue during the life of the project, the company said. The direct new jobs created by the project will have average annual salaries of $120,000 plus benefits.“Venture Global is proud to continue our expansion in Louisiana with the launch of our next project, CP2 LNG. CP2 will be located in Cameron Parish, adjacent to our existing Calcasieu Pass terminal. These two projects, combined with our Plaquemines LNG facility now under construction, represent more than $20 billion of investment in the state of Louisiana and will create thousands of jobs—including both permanent and construction jobs,” Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel said.

“With two major LNG export projects currently under active construction, Venture Global is on a mission to produce the cleanest, low-cost LNG in North America. We are proud to partner with Louisiana in these efforts and in developing carbon capture and sequestration for our facilities. Under the leadership of Gov. John Bel Edwards, Louisiana is enhancing its status as an international hub for innovation to tackle the energy and climate challenges of our time.”

“Venture Global has invested significantly in Louisiana’s economy, and I am proud to celebrate this exciting new project with them,” Edwards said. “The CP2 facility in Cameron will create more than 1,000 new permanent jobs and thousands of construction jobs in the area, which will have a significant impact on our economy. And it is incorporating clean energy technology that reduces the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere, which is significant for our environment. As Louisiana pursues a goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, projects that feature carbon capture and sequestration allow our state to sustain industry without sacrificing our long-term carbon-reduction goals.”

Plaquemines LNG Project, Louisiana

Plaquemines LNG project is a natural gas liquefaction and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal being developed in Louisiana, US.

The LNG project will have a nameplate production capacity of 20 million metric tons per annum (Mtpa), while the peak production capacity is expected to be 24Mtpa.

It also includes the Gator Express pipeline, which will include two pipelines linked to the existing interstate natural gas pipelines to deliver natural gas to the LNG project site.

The project is being developed by Venture Global Plaquemines LNG, a subsidiary of Venture Global LNG, with an investment of $8.5bn. The financial closure for the project is expected by the end of 2020. Construction of the LNG facility is expected to start in mid-2020, with the start-up of the terminal anticipated in 2023.

The project will generate 250 new direct jobs and an additional 728 indirect jobs, along with 2,200 jobs during construction.

Plaquemines LNG project location

The Plaquemines LNG project will be located on the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana, US.

The facility will be built on a 255ha site in Plaquemines Parish, 32km south of the Port of New Orleans.

Located along the west bank of the Mississippi River, the site will have approximately 2km of river frontage.

Gator Express pipeline details

The Gator Express pipeline will be developed by Venture Global Gator Express to feed the LNG facility with natural gas from the interstate pipelines.

The pipeline will be developed in two phases, with the first phase including an approximately 24km-long, 42in diameter pipeline and appurtenant facilities. This pipeline will receive gas from new interconnections with Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company and Texas Eastern Transmission for delivery to the Plaquemines facility.

The second phase will include the development of a 19.3km-long, 42in diameter pipeline along with appurtenant facilities, for transporting supplies from the Texas Eastern Transmission interconnection.

Both the pipelines will run parallel sharing one right-of-way corridor along the majority of their routes and appurtenant facilities.

LNG sale and purchase agreements

The US Department of Energy issued an order to Plaquemines LNG in October 2019, allowing it to export locally produced LNG to non-free trade agreement (FTA) countries. The order authorises Plaquemines LNG to export up to 3.4 billion cubic feet per day (Bcfpd) of natural gas.

Venture Global LNG secured a commitment from the Polish Oil & Gas Company (PGNiG) for the sale of 2.5Mtpa of LNG from the Plaquemines project.

Électricité de France (EDF) reached an agreement to purchase 1Mtpa of LNG from the Plaquemines facility for a period of 20 years.

For what they've spent on that bucket so far, not including the $800,000 per round rail-gun ammo, we could have new DES MOINES class cruisers with T'hawks, Harpoons, and blackjack tables

I learned back in the day that can't use any ferrous metal in rail guns. The over-confident brass thought we'd build a ton of these things so cost per round would go down by buying in bulk. Then they took the beast to Sea and found Neptune out there waiting with a reality check

ICYMI: Viewers tune out Maddow-less MSNBC

https://nypost.com/2022/02/09/rachel-maddow-hiatus-leaves-hole-in-msnbc-prime-time/

Rachel Maddow hiatus is costing MSNBC in primetime ratings

Rachel Maddow’s absence from MSNBC’s primetime lineup is costing the channel viewers.

The network’s marquee 9 p.m. program lost nearly 30% of its audience in the key 25-54 demographic on Monday, the second day of Maddow’s weeks-long hiatus, according to the latest Nielsen figures.

The episode garnered an average of 201,000 viewers in the key demo — down 29% compared to the Monday of the prior week, when Maddow was still hosting.

Its total viewership for the evening was 1,636,000 — far below the 2.78 million who tuned in to Fox News’ “Hannity” during that same hour, according to Nielsen.

But MSNBC can take solace in the fact that it is pummeling rival CNN, which was rocked by last week’s shocking resignation of top executive Jeff Zucker.

Monday’s Maddow-less hour still beat Anderson Cooper in the coveted 25-54 demo, as “AC360,” which was expanded to a two-hour broadcast to fill the void left by Chris Cuomo, drew just 176,000 viewers.

Overall, MSNBC’s 9 p.m. offering on Monday drew more than twice the number of viewers as CNN’s Cooper, which managed just 615,000 people in its audience.

Monday’s MSNBC show was helmed by Ali Velshi, who will be among several of the left-leaning cable channel’s personalities who are scheduled to fill in for Maddow on a rotational basis.

The Monday program’s viewership in the key demographic was also down 16% compared to the same period last month.
