'Progressive' Dems Threaten To Kill Minimum Wage Bill To Spite Moderates

If you have been tempted to dismiss the growing progressive insurgency within the Democratic caucus as a mirage produced by a handful of outspoken voices - as Nancy Pelosi has suggested - well, think again.

In what appears to be one of the most deliberate examples yet of the Democrats progressive caucus sabotaging the party's own agenda because it didn't get exactly what it wanted, the Hill reports that some House Dems are prepared to scuttle a bill to raise the national minimum wage to $15 an hour if a procedural motion from the Republicans is added to the bill.

It's meant to be a gesture to moderate Democrats who have sometimes voted with Republicans on procedural issues: The progressives are in no mood to compromise.

Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Mark Pocan, the co-chairs of the House Progressive Caucus, issued a statement accusing the Republicans of supporting a "disingenuous" motion that would amount to a "poison pill".

"We have no doubt that Congressional Republicans will try to divide the Democratic Caucus with a disingenuous Motion to Recommit. It’s up to all of us to stand unified and reject their bad faith effort to undermine this bill," Pocan and Jayapal said in a statement.

"After consulting with our Members this week, we are confident that any bill that includes a poison pill Republican Motion to Recommit will lack the votes to pass on the House Floor."

According to the Huffington Post, a vote on the minimum wage is slated for Thursday. However, even if progressives don't kill it, the bill will face an almost certain death in the Senate. The Federal minimum wage is currently $7.25 per hour.

According to Steinberg there is credible evident that Ilhan Omar and her family changed their name to illegally enter the United States back in 1995.

And since that time Ilhan Omar as an adult continued to defy US law. According to Steinberg Rep. Omar committed at least eight instances of perjury going back to 2009. The charges could carry up to 40 years of prison time or deportation.

Obviously, Ilhan Omar has no regard for US law and yet here she is representing Minnesota in the US Congress and a sitting member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

She obviously has no problem with lying on federal documents.

This is his fifth. He titles it “Meet Leila Elmi: The Missing Link Showing Ilhan Omar Married Her Brother.” Drawing on his research, interviews, and social media evidence he makes the case that Omar has engaged in a variety of fraudulent activities and willful misrepresentations related to her marital arrangements. On October 22, 2008, the U.S. State Department stopped accepting applications for the Priority 3/Refugee Family Reunification program — the process by which refugees can apply for asylum if one family member is already a legal U.S. resident. State halted the program because DNA testing — primarily of Somalis — had concluded that perhaps 87 percent of applicants were fraudulently claiming family relationships.

Despite continuing war, Somalia of 2008 was not comparable to the open hell of the early 1990s, when an eight-year-old Ilhan and her family fled to Kenya’s Dadaab refugee camps. Ocasio-Cortez: Nobody is ‘heartbroken’ at the prospect of losing private health insurance

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said on Wednesday nobody is "heartbroken" by the prospect of losing their private health insurance if Medicare for All were to be implemented.

Her comments were first reported by Bloomberg's Sahil Kapur.

"@AOC, asked about warnings from Joe Biden on Medicare for All, says nobody is ‘heartbroken' at the idea of losing private insurance. ‘People like their health care, they like their doctor,' she says. ‘But I’d be interested in what the public polling on Aetna would look like,'" Kapur tweeted.

Earlier this week, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., estimated his Medicare for All proposal would cost up to $40 trillion over 10 years. Sanders has also said he would raise taxes, including for the middle class, to pay for Medicare for All, and that "there will be pain" in a transition to a single-payer system.

Former Vice President Joe Biden's healthcare plan, released on Monday, does not go as far as Medicare for All. His proposal includes a public option to buy into a Medicare-like plan and wouldn't eliminate private health insurance.

GOP Border Report: Data Reveals Majority Of Migrant Children Have Been Reunited

The House Oversight Committee’s ranking member Rep. Jim Jordan released an explosive report Thursday revealing that the data the committee has obtained from Health and Human Services shows that 95 percent of illegal immigrant children separated at the border have been reunited with parents or sponsors. Those numbers are based on 1619 children out of 2648 total.

The HHS data, however, is only based on the 1619 they have been able to track and the other 1029 children are currently being processed by the government agency and those numbers will be turned over to the committee once they are compiled, according to congressional sources.

Jordan, R-Ohio, commissioned the report based on the data provided by HHS, slamming Democrats for politicking the serious crisis at the border, which has been exacerbated by rhetoric and failure to change or enforce immigration laws. Republican members say the data provided by HHS to date “contradicts the Democrat narrative that the Trump Administration is neglecting separated children at the border.” The report comes on the heels of a border hearing scheduled today, where Homeland Security acting Secretary Kevin McAleenan is testifying on Capitol Hill. The focus will be the immigration crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The Administration has currently identified to the Committee a total of 2,648 children who were potentially separated at the southern border. To date, HHS has provided data to the Committee for 1,619 of these 2,648 children,” according to the report. “According to a staff analysis of this HHS data, out of the 1,619 children, 1,603—or 99 percent—of the children have been discharged from HHS custody.”

The report defends the Trump administration’s response to the committee, stating that evidence “obtained to date demonstrates, the Trump Administration is responding to an unprecedented surge of migrant children and family units—a surge that initially began in 2014 during the Obama Administration…Data produced by the Administration show that the Trump Administration has reunited most of the children detained at the border.”

As for the roughly 1,000 children HHS is expected to provide data on a congressional official noted said, “HHS tracks these kids on a rolling basis.”

Iran Seizes Foreign Oil Tanker Accused of Smuggling Fuel: State TV

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has seized a foreign oil tanker because it was smuggling fuel, according to the country’s state television.

Iran’s Press TV said on July 18 that the Guard Corps seized the “foreign vessel,” which was supposedly smuggling one million barrels of fuel. It was seized near Larak Island in the Persian Gulf.

According to Iran’s Fars News agency, the ship had 12 foreign crew members on board and capacity for 2 million liters of fuel.

The Revolutionary Guards said the impounded vessel—which Iranian authorities have not yet named—was the same one it towed after it sent a distress call.

“The vessel that Iran towed to its waters after receiving a distress call was later seized with the order from the court as we found out that it was smuggling fuel,” the guards said in a statement quoted by state television.

The Panamanian-flagged oil tanker MT Riah stopped transmitting its location overnight on Sunday near Qeshm Island, which has a Revolutionary Guard base on it, according to data listed on tracking site Maritime Traffic.

State press insisted the guards didn’t seize any other ships in the Gulf.

A U.S. defense official said earlier this week that America “has suspicions” that Iran had seized the oil tanker when it turned off its tracker in the Strait of Hormuz. An Emirati official said the small oil tanker made no distress call before switching off its tracker.

Report: Democrats Privately Admit Trump Outflanked Them Over Far-Left Progressives

Some Democrat lawmakers have privately admitted to being outflanked by President Donald Trump as they struggle to reign in the far-left progressives in their party, according to CNN.

“The President won this one,” a House Democratic lawmaker told the news outlet’s chief Washington correspondent. “What the President has done is politically brilliant. Pelosi was trying to marginalize these folks, and the President has now identified the entire party with them.”

In series of tweets, CNN’s Jake Tapper quoted four anonymous Democrats who expressed frustration with the four far-left members of the party known as the “squad”—Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.)—that came under Trump’s Twitter crosshairs after an internal fight within the Democrat party.

President Trump has credited the four with helping him achieve a four-point bump in the polls, after he lambasted them for bad-mouthing America, saying that they “hate our country.”

On July 17, Trump wrote on Twitter, “New Poll: The Rasmussen Poll, one of the most accurate in predicting the 2016 Election, has just announced that ‘Trump’ numbers have recently gone up by four points, to 50%. Thank you to the vicious young Socialist Congresswomen. America will never buy your act!”

Judge Orders Jeffrey Epstein Held Without Bail

A federal judge has ordered Jeffrey Epstein to be held without bail.

The judge, U.S. District Judge Richard Berman announced the decision on July 18 during a hearing in federal court in Manhattan.

He cited Epstein’s danger to others, according to Courthouse News reporter Adam Klasfield.

“I find that the government has established danger to others and to the community by clear and convincing evidence,” Berman said, also finding risk of flight by “preponderance of the evidence.” He cited testimony by Annie Farmer and Courtney Wild, two of a number of women who have accused Epstein of sexually abusing them when they were young.

He also cited Epstein’s expired Austrian passport and his residence in Saudi Arabia, in addition to the nude photographs of what appeared to be underage girls found in Epstein’s New York City mansion.

Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, told the judge in a July 17 letter (pdf) that a passport found at one of Epstein’s homes was used numerous times.

While Epstein’s attorneys claimed the passport expired 32 years ago and contained “no evidence” that Epstein ever used it, Berman said “the passport contains numerous ingress and egress stamps, including stamps that reflect use of of the passport to enter France, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia in the 1980s.”

Epstein hasn’t addressed how he got the foreign passport or whether he’s a citizen of another country, Berman added.

The charges against Epstein alleged that he sexually abused and exploited dozens of girls, some as young as 14, in New York and Florida.

The indictment stated that from at least around 2002 up to at least around 2005, Epstein “caused to be enticed and recruited minor girls to visit his mansion in Manhattan, New York and his estate in Palm Beach, Florida to engage in sex acts with him, after which he would give the victims hundreds of dollars in cash.”

“Moreover, and in order to maintain and increase his supply of victims, Epstein also paid certain of his victims to recruit additional girls to be similarly abused,” authorities wrote. “In this way, Epstein created a vast network of underage victims for him to sexually exploit in locations including New York and Palm Beach.”
