Yes, precisely. They like to see themselves as Beyond Good and Evil, in the Nietzchian sense. They want to be the Prince that Machiavelli wrote his guidebook on ruling for.

In reality, they're pathetic freaks like Eggman with his fucked up teeth. They got picked on as kids (or raised by Satanist abuser parents) and, now they see the rest of humanity as nothing but pawns to be manipulated to their will.

I've always viewed membership in a fraternity as a sign of weakness. It shows someone that can't stand on their own merits, and relies on the perks of an inherently exclusionary club so that they can advance their own interests, regardless of their qualifications. I've worked places where the Boss hired preferentially from his old college fraternity, and I had to pick up the slack everyday because these individuals where not qualified, and they acted entitled and didn't put any effort in.

Masonry/ Scientology/ Cults are the exact same thing. Simpletons and Dupes sign up thinking they'll make their own lives better, but the ones at the top pulling the strings decide how high you'll climb in their order, and whether or not you'll be useful to them. The Sunk Costs principle explains how the more time and money one invests in a cult, the harder it is to leave because you always feel like just over the horizon it will pay off and you'll achieve what you've always wanted. Eventually these people become completely corrupted, and blind to the evils they are participating in and inflicting on others.

Hit piece for sure, but in their own words:

( according to one recent YouGov/Economist poll, 11% of respondents said they believed the Pizzagate conspiracy theory (a precursor to QAnon which suggests that Hillary Clinton was involved in a child sex trafficking ring and ritual satanic sacrifice) was โ€œdefinitely true,โ€ while 24% said it was โ€œprobably true.โ€)

Nearly 25% of people polled believe Pizzagate was "probably true".

I'd say 25% a pretty solid number.
