Could it be a green-screen color-keyed production? Don't recall where these pics purportedly showing ISIS beheadings videos faked, made in a TV studio, originated. If green screen, then depicting the soldiers in black as larger than life could have feasibly been done? Y'all know how they make fake videos all the time...background is green ... studio editing selects the entire green area and "keys" on it, making it transparent, so a different video stream can be merged into the transparent area. Old technology originating in the early days of movie-making where it was "rear projection" -- live actors in front of a movie screen that had some film projected onto it. An early way of combining two moving-picture streams.
