Biotech relative thinks CRISPR DNA-splicing process is dangerous, because it has the potential to create combinations of adjacent base pairs that have nothing whatsoever to do with the purpose for which the DNA-splicing activity was undertaken. Could create tons of unwanted genetic mods. Anyway that's my layperson's take on the relative's more expert view. Hope I restated it somewhat accurately.
