Reports: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Seizes British Tanker – UPDATE: Second Ship Seized
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the seizure of a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.
Update 5:21 p.m. ET: The Iranian regime has freed the second ship seized.
The IRGC, which was recently designated as a foreign terrorist organisation by the United States, is reported to have seized a vessel which reports identify as the Stena Impero (MMSI: 232010294) in the busy waterway, which links the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.
The move may have been retaliation for the recent detention of an Iranian tanker carrying crude oil to Syria by the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, situated at the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea on the southern tip of Spain.
Officially, the IRGC claims that “Stena Impero was stopped while passing through the Strait of Hormuz for not observing international marine rules and regulations”, according to the BBC.
“After being confiscated, the tanker was led to the shore and handed over to the Ports and Maritime Organisation for legal procedures and the required investigations,” the IRGC statement added.
The ship’s operator confirmed that their vessel was “approached by unidentifiable small crafts and a helicopter” in international waters — seeming to contract the IRGC’s claims — and that they are no longer able to contact it in the following statement:
2019-07-19 – 19.55
Stena Bulk and Northern Marine Management can confirm that at approximately 1600 BST on 19th July UK registered vessel Stena Impero (built 2018, 49,683 DWT) was approached by unidentified small crafts and a helicopter during transit of the Strait of Hormuz while the vessel was in international waters. We are presently unable to contact the vessel which is now heading north towards Iran.
There are 23 seafarers aboard. There have been no reported injuries and their safety is of primary concern to both owners and managers. The priority of both vessel owner Stena Bulk and ship manager Northern Marine Management is the safety and welfare of the crew.
Northern Marine Management has not been able to establish contact directly with the vessel since it was notified of the incident at approximately 1600 Today, 19th July 2019.
We are in close contact with UK government authorities.

Dr. Drew: Los Angeles Faces Imminent Outbreak of Bubonic Plague
7/19/2019
Dr. Drew Pinsky said Friday that Los Angeles faces an imminent outbreak of bubonic plague because of the growth of the homeless population and the failure of state and local authorities to deal with rodent problems.
Dr. Drew made his comments during a Periscope broadcast by Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams, who has become a popular political pundit with a daily live audience of thousands of people.
Dr. Drew told Adams that he had predicted the recent typhus outbreak in Los Angeles, which was carried by rats, transferred by fleas to pets, and from pets to humans.
Bubonic plague, Dr. Drew said, like typhus, is endemic to the region, and can spread to humans from rodents in a similar fashion.
Though commonly recognized as the medieval disease responsible for the Black Death in the fourteenth century, which killed one-third of the population of Europe, the last outbreak of bubonic plague in the U.S. was nearly a century ago, from 1924 to 1925 — also in Los Angeles. Only a “heroic effort” by doctors stopped it, Dr. Drew recalled, warning that conditions were perfect for another outbreak of the plague in the near future.
Los Angeles is one of the only cities in the country, Dr. Drew said, that has no rodent control plan. “And if you look at the pictures of Los Angeles, you will see that the homeless encampments are surrounded by dumps. People defecate there, they throw their trash there, and the rats just proliferate there.”
Moreover, he said, homeless people were defecating directly into city drains, which flowed to the Pacific Ocean. “We have the sewage of 60,000 people hitting the ocean every day,” he said.
Though there were adequate financial resources, Dr. Drew said, homelessness would not be solved by building more housing, because the fundamental problems were mental illness and drug addictions, which created an “attachment to this lifestyle” on the streets.

State of emergency declared in Wisconsin after electrical fires
July 19, 2019 / 7:33 PM / CBS/AP
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers declared a state of emergency and called in the National Guard on Friday after two fires at electric substations. The city's utility, Madison Gas & Electric, said the fires had been contained but there were still some customers without power Friday night.
No injuries were reported as a result of the 7:40 a.m. explosion and fire at the Madison Gas and Electric main power center a few blocks from the state Capitol, which was among the buildings that were forced to close. A second fire at a substation near the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a couple of miles to the west, prompted the evacuation of nearby buildings. No injuries were reported as a result of that blast, either.
An executive order issued by Evers said the declaration was issued to "provide support during the large power outage that is exacerbated by the extreme heat wave affecting the area," CBS Madison affiliate WISC reported. The heat index value for Madison means temperatures felt like 103 degrees on Friday.

Trump Says He'll Call Sweden's PM To "See What We Can Do" About Rapper's Imprisonment
by Tyler Durden
Fri, 07/19/2019 - 20:20
No, this isn't the Onion.
On a Friday afternoon where markets closed in the red and the world is once again on edge about the possibility of WWIII breaking out in the Persian Gulf - in short, the American public is badly in need of distraction - President Trump tweeted that he is going to reach out to the "very talented" prime minister of Sweden to "see what we can do" about helping popular American rapper A$AP Rocky, who is presently incarcerated in Sweden for the last two weeks after getting into a street fight with two men.
Trump said he decided to make the inquiry after speaking with fellow rapper and noted Trump fan Kanye West.
In Friday's edition of the New York Post, the paper reported that the White House had already secured better jail conditions for A$AP after Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner intervened. The Harlem rapper's manager, John Ehmann, reportedly complained about his client's conditions in jail, and somebody from the Urban Revitalization Coalition ended up putting Ehmann in contact with Kushner. West and his wife, Kim Kardashian, also reportedly lobbied Kushner to do something abotu A$AP.

“Our Constitutional Republic is Under Assault”—Tom Fitton on the Trump Tweets & Mueller Testimony
Why was Mueller’s testimony to congress delayed? Why is it taking so long to declassify documents related to the Spygate scandal? What is the significance of the recent John Hackett testimony in relation to the Clinton emails?
And in the eyes of Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton, what key questions should Republicans be asking during Mueller’s upcoming testimony?
This is American Thought Leaders, and I’m Jan Jekielek.
Today we sit down with Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, which uses FIOA, or Freedom of Information Act requests, and litigation to expose government corruption.
We discuss the reaction to President Trump’s tweets about “the four congresswomen,” the upcoming Mueller testimony, and what Fitton sees as concurrent attacks on President Trump and his administration in “the biggest corruption scandal of all time.” We also look at the citizenship question, and Tom’s take on the different Spygate-related investigations, including those of DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut John Durham, and U.S. Attorney for Utah John Huber.
"You're All Serial Killers": Outraged Californians Slam $2 Billion PG&E Rate Hikes
by Tyler Durden
Fri, 07/19/2019 - 19:40
Representatives from Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and the California Public Utilities Commission got an earful from angry residents on Thursday over a plan to charge customers almost $2 billion over the next three years.
PG&E says it will use the funds to help pay for wildfire safety improvements and other items.
"The 2020 GRC proposal, which is the focus of Thursday’s public participation hearings, does not include costs associated with the 2017 and 2018 wildfires," PG&E spokeswoman Kristi Jourdan told The Chico Enterprise-Record via email.
"PG&E has the authority to track costs from these fires, including costs associated with repairs, restoration, damages and third-party claims, in memorandum accounts but would have to seek authorization from the (public utilities commission) through a separate application to recover those costs."
The request for a rate raise must be approved by the commission and would give the utility company $1 billion above current rates in 2020, $454 million more in 2021 and $486 million more for 2022.
For the average customer, Jourdan said, the rate raise would be approximately $10.50 more per month — $8.75 for electricity and $1.84 for gas. -Chico Enterprise-Record
Locals disagree
"You know that what you’re doing is killing people, and that means you’re all serial killers," said Mary Kay Benson, adding "We are not going to just lay down and be collateral damage."

.Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Republican Opponent Raises Concerns About Pattern of Traffic Violations
By Patrick Howley
July 19, 2019 Updated: July 19, 2019
Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar was arrested for failing to show current driver registration during her 2018 congressional campaign, marking the latest in a pattern of traffic incidents that include an arrest for driving without a license and two apparent driver’s license suspensions. Her Republican opponent believes these traffic violations point to deeper issues that should concern the voters.
In the case of State of Minnesota vs. Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, filed on Oct. 25, 2018 in Hennepin County Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown court, Omar was convicted of Failure to Display Current Registration — Expired Plates, a petty misdemeanor.
Omar was convicted on November 16, 2018, shortly after her election to U.S. Congress. The October 4, 1982 birth date of the convicted person matches Congresswoman Omar’s birthdate.
“The lack of reporting is concerning. I get it, the district has been a Democratic district for a little while, but at what point is the press required to do their job and actually inform the people of character concerns?,” Danielle Stella, Omar’s 2020 Republican challenger, told The Epoch Times, referring to the failure by the media to report on Omar’s traffic troubles.
Omar was also convicted of a petty misdemeanor on Dec. 22, 2016 in the case State of Minnesota vs. Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, after she was found to have “Vehicle Registration Required.” In this case, there is no mention of expired license plates. Omar failed to appear in court or pay her fine, prompting a second penalty that was sent to collections and ultimately rejected by the collection agency.
On Oct. 12, 2012, Omar was convicted of a petty misdemeanor of speeding but days earlier her misdemeanor charge for driving with no Minnesota driver’s license had been dismissed. Omar initially failed to appear in court. Court records note that on June 8, 2012, a drivers license suspension request was sent to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Upon conviction, a drivers license reinstatement request was sent to the Department of Public Safety, indicating that Omar’s license was suspended in the interim.
Court records show previous Omar convictions for illegal right turn on red in 2012 and disobeying a stop sign in 2010. In the latter case, court records show that a drivers license suspension request was sent to the Department of Public Safety on July 20, 2009, and a drivers license reinstatement request was sent to the Department of Public Safety on Sept. 28, 2010, indicating that Omar’s license was suspended for an extended period of time.
“One thing that’s concerning is the sheer amount of traffic violations and carelessness with not having her registration. It keeps occurring, I don’t know if she thinks she is above the law or in Minneapolis maybe she is the law because no one reports on it,” Danielle Stella said. “Either way it doesn’t bode well for somebody who is supposed to be representing the people.”
Omar was arrested and booked in 2013 at Hennepin County Jail for “Trespassing and Refusing to Leave A Hotel Upon Lawful Demand,” according to a police report.
Omar’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

Ilhan Omar Stonewalling Hometown Paper on Marriage Controversy, Editor Says
By The Daily Caller News Foundation
July 19, 2019
Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar has allegedly been uncooperative with her hometown paper’s efforts to get to the bottom of accusations that she committed marriage fraud, the paper’s political editor said.
Omar’s brief congressional career has been dogged by accusations—which she has denied—that she married a male relative, possibly her brother. Omar and her current husband, Ahmed Hirsi, filed joint tax returns while Omar was married to another man, Ahmed Elmi, Minnesota campaign finance officials said.
Omar and her family have made it difficult for journalists to find out the truth about her marriage, Minnesota Star-Tribune editor Kevin Diaz told PolitiFact in an interview on Thursday, July 18.
“Our public records searches determined that in at least one period after she married Elmi, all three (Omar, Elmi and Hirsi) used the same address in Minnesota. It raises questions about the nature of the relationship if she is living with both the person she’s married to and her eventual husband,” Diaz said.
“What’s really made it hard is that she’s been unwilling to address any of these questions. That has fueled the controversy. We quoted her at length to say that these were mere accusations, that they were unfair, and that she shouldn’t have to address them. Be that as may, there was an undisputed instance of her filing her taxes improperly. And if you’re in Congress, you should explain that to your constituents,” he continued.
“We’ve asked her these questions, and also asked her to make her father available. We’ve tried to reach Elmi. We’ve tried to reach her sisters. Her family could put this (the question of Elmi’s relationship to Omar) to rest easily. No one will talk to us. I wish we could send a reporter to Mogadishu (Somalia) but we don’t have the bandwidth,” the editor added.
Omar’s office didn’t immediately return the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment on Diaz’s remarks.
President Donald Trump gave fuel to the allegations surrounding Omar’s marriage in comments to reporters Wednesday.
“There’s a lot of talk about the fact that she was married to her brother. I know nothing about it,” Trump said. “I don’t know, but I’m sure that somebody would be looking at that.”
