Very picky plant on where it will grow. Had a few plants we kept after harvesting the flowers- intended to grind the stalk and plant for teas but they sat out too long. Long enough for those plants to set out seed. So now after the years harvest, we place the stalks in our growing area and new plants arrive in the spring. It has to plant itself- manually planting the seeds nets nothing.
It's a two year plant- comes up in year 1 but doesn't grow very large. The following year it throws up a stalk and produces the flowers. The seeds are viable for over 100 years.
At maturity the plant reaches up to 15' in height.

The deer you posted is of a full-grown male in a northern climate. Deer in the Caribbean are NOT close to their natural habitat and get smaller as one moves south across the continent.
Additionally, this island deer pic was taken rather recently. Buck's antlers are still growing, complete with velvet which gives them the appearance of being much thicker. Young Bucks antlers grow upwards for a few years before they begin to spread and grow moar 'points'.
